Shanea -- it's a job at DERA (Defence Evaluation and Research Agency) for next year, between finishing school and going to Uni (if I do go). It'll probably (hopefully!) be doing C++ stuff, cause that would be a real kick-ass job :D

It's working on the flight simulator for the successor to the current JSF. Sound familiar?
My cube mate works on the simulator for the F-22. I actually got to fly it during the Christmas Holidays when things were slow. It was very cool! Does JSF stand for Joing Strike Fighter over there too?

Anyway, I wasn't sure because acronyms can have multiple meanings depending on the industry.
We have two version of the JSF hangared by us. One is built by Boeing and the other Lockheed. They are going to have a "fly off" to determine which contractor to give the business too. The Boeing plane is really ugly but the Lockheed one looks similar to my airplane.
Why didn't you take the job? Too many secrets to pass the security clearance tests?

Yeah I prefer the Lockheed one too, although most people I've spoken to about it that know what I'm on about seem to prefer the Boeing model. I haven't seen much from the Lockheed camp, they seem to be playing it quiet, whereas Boeing are going all out and showing off about it. I went to the Farnborough air show last year, and Boeing had a JSF hangar with one of their prototypes on display. It looks like they just stuck the engine on as an afterthought. In fact, that's exactly what I said with one of the Boeing guys behind me :rolleyes: I don't think he was too impressed.
I never applied because a) I thought it might be a bit... governmental (which I've done before and it's really frustrating)... and b) they wanted a letter and I never know what to write. I still have letters to write though. Any tips?
Oh and I have UK Ministry of Defence security clearance, to a moderate level at least, twice over ;) They make you apply whenever you get a job that requires it for some reason.
What kind of letter did they require? A reference letter or just a letter of introduction?
Just a covering letter to go with my CV. The CV contains details of references if they want them.
I'll see if I can track mine down at home and send it to you.
Working with the government can be very frustrating but it's a stable job and I get to see a lot of cool stuff I wouldn't normally get to see.
