Learning php (Rather fast, i would say its now my best lang)
Erm,
Job: I am currently "At college" and in the "Development stages" with a friend, to start programming as a profession (only with php).
(Currently do coding for fun, and to help my mate out with his bugs etc, not making any $$$ yet tho ;))
Ok, i'll tell my stuff aswell!
Im 16 years old, programming in vb for about 10 years now. I started programming superlogo (a real childish something:)) then went to vb. Also know a lil' c++ vga programming, html, javascript and ASP.
i made a lil' money but that was from some friends :)
-Shell-
Shell, you are a bit like me then, but I am 15 years old.
I started with vb in Excel...
14...This summer I'm going down the street to honey well...Its pretty kool. They let you work ther "as long as you take the training" Hey It's free money for me...Programming is fun! (and im VB 6)

Programming on a daily basis since 15 and I'm rarely impressed by anyone's programming skills on this board other than Serge, Hack, MerrionComputing, and Megatron.
I'm sure there are others that've got a "lift of the eyebrow" from me, but, for the most part, I think most teenagers on this board are making AOL plug-ins.

When I said Trillian, I meant better than Trillian :)
Why another protocol? There are too many already.
For me to consider it, it should allow encryption (strong), and seamless audio/video even if both parties are behind NAT routers or firewalls - it should not require incoming connections.
:)
I didn't thought about encryption, but thats easy to implement, I think.
You can probably use the code from OpenSSL I think.
One thing that would be nice, is if you can guarantee that they're on the same PC they normally are. So if someone has their password, you know that it's not coming from their house, or whatever.
Admittedly could cause trouble if they're using a PC in a big cluster at school or something, but....
U relize the ammount of strain it would put an ANY server, to do a "Voice" Conversation?Quote:

1 / 2 people maybe not much, but imagine like AOL, if they implemented it was sent to their servers -->> People and back..
1) Bad lag on the sound
2) Crashed server before no time ;)
The Voice wouldn't go over the server!
When two people want's to have a voice conversation, my app connects them to each other, p2p!
Yeh, As it should be ;)
: Thats what i was saying, for a Decent Convo, and to work correctly, it needs to be P2P :)
P2P - the way it should be!
I'm 15 and i have been programming since i was about 10. I started out on commador 64 and bbc basic then progressed to qbasic. Then i went to html and mirc scripting and finally onto vb. I am currently attempting to master vb before moving onto c++ :)
When I was I think, 15, I had a ****TY pc, 66MHz, I couldnt really do anything, so I would just go online and read about stuff, I somehow got into HTML and thought it was fun making stuff, especially when other people can see it.
I got a new PC and then I got into photoshop and flash, I loved the flash scripting (flash 4), and decided to learn VB, I started learning but then **I got CS** and I played it, all day.
Sometime around last year I decided to start learning stuff again and read some C tutorials and I got into iRC scripting a lot, I than decided that I only wanted to make small windows app's at the moment and left C alone, and now I am learning VB, than I really wanna learn PHP and continue iRC scripting ^_^
note: oh and about the money, I don't currently make any, I don't plan to for a while, I came to the conclusion that all I would do with the money is buy RAM and videocards.
I'm 16, started learning HTML (well, it is KINDA like programming) then forgot it. Learned Liberty Basic at about 14, then forgot it. Stated taking a VB class this year in high school and i love it. Next goal is javascript.
I'm 19, been programming since I was 15. Learned HTML, then JavaScript, then Visual Basic, then Perl/CGI, PHP, C++. I also know all those little things that go with HTML like CSS.
Never been paid for anything, but have made many freeware applications. Hope someone'll drop me a few bucks someday for being their programming slave.
im 15 i supose you could say i started programing when i was 7 i use click in play and then at about 9 i got the games factory
incase youve never heard of them their pretty much simplified prgraming languages that make some things easy to do but lmit your freedom alot
then in 7th grade i learned Qbasic i have no idea why my teacher decide to tech us that though it so old then in
8th grade my dad my a program in vb that limited my tv time to 1 hour a day (he made it acsees another program that controled power to the tvs) i spent hours trying to figure out how it worked and get thouhg the system(aparently he dosent know what comments are) after a while i decided i never wanted to program again
tha in 9th grade i singed up for a course call computer science 1+2
thinking it was a couse that taught you about how computers worked ect.
but to my surprise it was computer programing (vb) after a while i started likeing programing again and now im adicted to it i spend bout 3 hours a day+ on the pc programing and know for shure thats what i want to do when i grow up (good thing i acedently sing up for that class) im now learning c++ but my class is going so slow it took us like a mounth before we even learned the c++ equivalent of if then statments
i want ot know more does any one know of any good sited like this but for c++ programing
Do you? Where do you live?
HOLY SHT? Ur joking right?Quote:

Lol, i would be happy if i can find a part time job for a few bux an hour.. (Serious money needs :D)
(If ne 1 has work BTW, feel free to contact me ;))
Started @ 8 w/ Apple BASIC (back when it really was basic) then moved on to Turtle Logo.....
Naturaly came MS BASIC (and GW)
Pascal --> C (old, ANSI C) -->Ada --> COBOL --> ASM --> VB(3,4,5,6, and soon .NET)
Making big bucks now..... 22 yrs later....
and no candles already for the last two years !!
I started with basic with my zx spectrum 48Kb a lot of time ago after some years programming with foxpro 5.0 for dos I studied BCS (and some languages).
The last four years I have been swimming in the database world, database admin, data warehousing, t-sql on oracle, sybase and sql server.
Still I love to do little experiments with basic (visual).
I'm 12. I've been programming since I was 10. I started with HTML went to JavaScript, Java, Qbasic, VB. Right now I'm learning perl. Any ideas on making mony would be nice.:D
I'm now 10. I know HTML, JScript, PHP, QBasic, Basic, and LOGO (if you can call that programming). I'm not making any money yet, but plan to in the future.
Thanks for the reminder. I also know ColdFusion, PHP, SSI, GW-Basic (I even have the manual). I know so many languages I can't remember them all. I not making money but I am doing a website for a christian music group:
Christian Music Project
I'm 15 and have been programming in VB since mid VB 3 time. Before I started with VB 3, I used a little of Borland Pascal (never got very good at it though). That would have been when I was 6 or 7, I think. Although I don't make money off of programming, I plan to get a job at Intel next summer and part of the job would involve programming, as I know they want interns with VB skills.
I can also write QBasic, LOGO, and HTML. Although HTML isn't a programming language, and LOGO is doesn't use much code (and I haven't gotten the QBasic version to work). Not to mention the triggers for Starcraft and Warcraft 3 (which again could barely classify as programming unless you do custom text mode for W3).
I'm also thinking of learning Perl, and really want to learn C and C++. I know some of C but can't figure out the Visual C++ interface and how to do graphics applications.
I'm 14, and I know HTML, Java, and am in the process of learning VB. I have made money making web pages, but thats about it. I got to say though, web authoring pays pretty good(better than Mc Donalds),
I am 19 and i know VB, ASP, Javascript, HTML and a bit of C++ i work for a jukebox company in the Uk and i do get paid, oh my yes i DO!!!!!! :D
Started Programming only 3 or so years ago went to college and then hit the job market took me a year but i have managed to find a job at the ripe old age of 19 :D :D :D :D
Anyone wants advice on getting a job then i say learn controls and DX and you can shock and even scare many of the older programmers, Because They cant do it HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Paul Watts
i'm 13 and i program in visual basic, c++, pascal, javascript, perl, basic, html. me and my freind do webdesign and building. our site is here...it's going to be updated over the holidays:
http://www.vawebdesign.cjb.net
my name is stephen, i am 15, i program, and i make much more money doing webdesign/graphicdesign
im 19 (turning 20 soon though, ugh)
umm taught myself vb about 1.5 yrs ago to actually make a commercial program 2 sell! (which we did) but god it was ****ing ****. and now im continuing to vb. ahhh i also know asp, basic html, basic php, basic java, C.
I'm working for a friend who started his own company, not much $$$ though :( and ill be working there full time next year! argh.
I'm one (at least most of the time), and BTW I'm 62 :(Quote:

ah, thanks
Well. 62 and still actively doing this stuff, not to be sniffed at ;)
PHP is a good place to start. Its a bunch of CGI programs bunned together to make an easy to learn programming language and once you know one programming language all the others a are relitivly easy to learn.Quote:

Where is a good place to start learning about PERL/C++ for CGI?
The good thing about PHP is that it's construct is similar to Javascript and C - Operators are similar too.
Oh and by the way I'm 19 - been programming for two years. I knowJavascript, PHP, VB, VB Script learningC/ C++.
I'm yet to make anything big yet though. I don't have the patience and if I don't put my mind to it I end up with spaghetti llike cod :D.

I Strongly Recommend You Dont Place Cod In Your Project After A While It Will Begin To Smell!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D
Pooooooo!!!!!
my best language is visual basic. i earn money by making useful software and selling them to teachers and students in my school. the latest is WDS. Check it out on my school's website.

I'm not terribly inclined to specify my age, but it is somewhere between 13 and 16.
I began writing programs (in vb) when I was in second grade (they were mindnumbingly simple), and wrote a program for my third grade teacher that generated homework assignments for math (no, I did not include anything that allowed me to cheat).
Right now I am transitioning to vb.net, and in between writing a stock market simulation (for a cool teacher I had that now teaches math) and a gradebook program.
Hello,
I am a programmer too...17 now. I was slightly introduced to programming through a class at my old school, they just really taught "Hello World" which is probably 99% of all of ours first program. I've been programming for two years.
The steps to gain my experience were from VB to ASP to PHP to some C++/Java to VB.NET and finally C#.NET(i'm certified!) and obviously html is somewhere in there.
To newbies or anyone I personally would recommend learning in that order, it's very gradual and helps a lot!
Earning money...the first amount of money that I earned from programming came from working on a yahoo chat room bot... amazingly it was good money $500 for like 5 hours of work.. I am currently employed at a database company that designs applications for top companies such as Warner Brothers and Sony and I work at another company, an ISP that provides dedicated/colocated services in Los Angeles.

I am 21 now. And I have been programming in 6 years, mainly in VB, Java, and have been introdused to ASM, C++ and toched PHP. So I guess I have much to learn still. My Algorithm exam is up in a week...:D
I'm 16, and i'm a programmer, so i guess i fit ;)
most of my programming was done at college, but since the revision started getting heavy i've been doing some stuff at home.
*is v. new to this forum, ie first post-wise*
im 13 i started off in visual basic and ive been programing for about 2 years
I've been programming since I was 14 I think? But I didn't really get into it until I was 15-16. :)
Before that , I was a l33t HTML Hacker! :yeah baby:
Any girls underage of around 15 years old from singapore?
I started javascript, HTML and other web languages around 14yrs old - then moved onto networking . Im 19 and just went back to school recently.
Start by learning C++ THOROUGHLY! Then every other language will seem like childsplay.
I am 14,
Started 2 months ago,
I now know HTML (Not really programming but its a start)
I know some MySQL (Again not reaaly programming)
And i am currently working for a driving instructers company! YAY.
It pays CRAP
All jobs when you are young pay crap. :) :)
I'm 17 and I have been programming in VB for about 9 months. No money though... :(
Im 20 from the USA. The languages i have worked with are VB6.0, C++, Java, ASP, Java Script, HTML(doesnt count), DHTML, and XML.
Dont make much money off of OOP yet as i am still in school but otherwise i design and have designed a lot of web Inventory systems for companys which pays off pretty good ;-)
??? I got $500 for the first real app that I wrote. it took me about 3 hours to write the app tho. (minus the code that I already had written - basicly all i did was connect together all my snippits and design the gui (VB6)) The reason they paid so much (or maybe they didnt pay so much - i dont know what i should have charged but i was 12 and didnt really care) was because it saved them so much manual log parsing (they were paying 3 ppl like $7-9 an hour @ 8 hours a day) my program did their workload in a few minutes. * stops and thinks i may have gotten some people fired??? *Quote:

Anyone know what I should have charged for a program that took that long to write???
prolly less that what they paid me
I still think that was funny

Well in a word Yes! but having had to support house wife an 2 children while at university I accumulated horrendous debts and will probably just about clear them by the time I retire!
ps I'm 31 by the way!
Isn't that just the way of life? You think you're going to have all this extra cash laying around.. As a teenage, you never realize till you get older that most of the world's population lives in debt their entire working lives.
Want a good education? ok, fork over $30,000 -$100,000.
Want a house? ok, fork over $300,000. And wait also, you have to pay property tax on that house now too.. give them another $2 - $6,000 a year for property taxes.
Want a new to slightly used car every five years? Ok, fork over $18,000 every 5 years then. 8 cars in your working life * 18,000 = $144,000.
Want to insure those cars in case some moron drives into them and rips off your front fender? You need to, otherwise you'll owe more on your car loan than the car is actually worth! That will be about $1200 a year for both, if you're a good driver btw!
Want health insurance so you don't get sick, get stuck with a $50,000 hospital bill and end up losing your house? ok, fork over $1500 a year, wait... you have a wife and 2 children, make that $3000 a year..
Want to insure your house also in case your child throw's a party and one of his friend's burns it down, or a nail falls out and your garage goes crashing? Ok, fork over another $1200 a year.
Ok, did you run over that nail in your garage? Ok, fork over $100 for a new tire.
Want to feed your family a decent meal everyday? Ok, that will be a good $600-$1200 a month, or , $7200 to $14,400 a year.
How bout clothes? stereos? something to sit on *2 *how many rooms in your house? beds? blankets.. pets... desks.. .etc..etc..
Its simply amazing how the more money you make, the deeper in debt you can become.
Simply mind-boggling. Btw, im 29, and the proud owner of $260,000 of debt!
