its not that easy to crash a plane into a building like that let alone the water sprinker!!!!

They just reported starting death counts: 266 dead thus far ...

Engineer here said that heat could have cause steel to expand, thus shortening the weight capacity (then it all came down). What a ****ing shame.

It might help to remember that these guys are also describing it as a Terrorist attack and a tragedy. Not all Arabs are responsible for this, don't be tainted by the guys celebrating on t.v. I'm sure there are a lot who feel America's pain.
SD
well i call a mate there and it rang with no answer ?? :(Quote:

Bush to give statement from my home state Louisiana shortly.
I'm intruiged why they didn't go for the white house rather than the pentagon, which has now collapsed incidently.
Simon - yeah the City.
Rang with no answer? Well, if they're going to do the SE and CW then they might as well do the lot.
PS: Have you heard from Sam yet?
Lots of goverment buildings here in brussels have been cleared and several roads have been cut-off(to the nato hq, the palace and the american ambassy).
Umm... I would say there are at least 10,000 people dead. The towers were full and each hold on average 10,000 people. Both towers collapsed, so my guess would be 15,000 people dead.
I would think this would be the single largest terrorist attack ever.

Eternal - yeah, you're probably right :(
they were evacuating city blocks around the towers because of gas leaks. that migth have been what caused the buildings to come down.

If thats the State Dept one, then , no, its turned out that it didn't occur, a false report.
Sadly I don't think it is pysically possible to evactuate 25000 people in 5 mintes, especially in a building of that design.Quote:

Bit of trivia. Today is the anniversary of the Camp David Accord. A US/Isreal Peace treaty.
How long between crashes. have heard conflictiung reports (18mins to 1 hour). Does anyone have the time?
SD
It was 18 min or so. 8:50 was the first one then around 9:08 for the second.
They had about an hour to evac before the collapses, but, stillQuote:

your right. The Stairwells were jammed.
Some jumped to their deaths, trying to evac.
Did not here what floors they jumped from, nor how they expected to survive the jump.
Those were the Explosions/Plane Crashings.Quote:

See the AniGif in My Previous post for Time Line.
Maybe they just went stir crazy? People do weird things when they have no control over their situation and will do ANYTHING to do something that involves a decision.
Some people jumped from the observation deck.
astronauts from international space station can see the smoke from the WTC.
I sincerely doubt we will have any trouble getting more spending for military defense.
It's really really sad to watch a couple jumping off the window with their hands still tied together..
I guess, the death toll is 50 thousand....mostly due to the panic.
just heard that this happend one day before the sentencing of the guy that did it in 1998 (that attacked the WTC) and he was an Islamic getting the death sentence.

damn i couldnt do that!
Firey burning death or jumping? Your choice, both end in the same way. Those that jumped were probably so panicked that they didn't think.
That's a **** of a long way!Quote:

Simon - that's what you think right now, and I don't think I could either. However, who knows what panicked people do :(
Oh, and if anyone still believes in God...reality check for you
I just watched the towers crumble on Sky News. You may have been luckier if you jumped.
Damn shame. Unbelievable what people are capable of.
True Mike, But i would prefer to cram down the stairs and save myself than jumping to save myself ! :(Quote:

This is such a terrible disaster and thousands of innocent lives are forever affected!
May Jesus' love be upon all the innocent and revenge be visited on all the evil parties.
This is absolutely terrible.
Heres My first Find on the web confirming its been denied to have happened:Quote:

— Senior law enforcement officials say car bomb explodes outside of State Department in Washington, D.C. Federal protective services later denies car bomb attack occurred.
@ Time.com
When I saw the pictures it made me feel so sick!! I am not an American, but I stayed one year there and anyways it is the most terrible and radical crime that I have heard of that happened in recent times.
Whoever did this brought a lot of misery to 10,000s of people in the whole world. Noone knows how the USA will (have to) react, and what the consequences will be. I could imagine a huge setback to peace in the middle east and for the international community in general. It probably will be much harder to get into the USA for everyone from now on and trade and economy will suffer. You might say who cares for that now if humans died, but there are uncounted people that depend on that trade and economy that might lose their jobs and their basis of life.
I also think there is the possibility that Bush will try to show that he retaliates by retaliating at a target, which he can't sure about to be involved into that terrible crime.
some notes if anyone is interested:
Here in Germany they put the flags halfway everywhere and all celebrations and similar things have been canceled for the next days. The streets around the American embassy are widely closed.
(sorry for my english, but I haven't been that shocked for a while)
This is the worst thing that happened to the world in my rather short life.
ive lost two friends today.
our global teacher, he heard the news and he was shocked. he lost his mom.
my chem teachers cousin got out 15min before it collapsed
i heard they also got camp david
:( :(
trouble is ... one false judgement now and it could trigger a whole set of unforseable events ...
This might very well be a dangerous situation regarding the world peace.
Nabeel, I am sorry for your loss, as well as the loss of all the Americans who have directly or indirectly suffered this.
Jesus4u, I like that last part, may revenge be ....

Has anyone heard anything about terrorists in Whitehorse? (thats in Canada, near Alaska). Something was mentioned on th enews about another plane being hijacked, but it might just have been people being really jumpy?
SD
just in from cbc
both are Korean planes that landed in whitehorse
one is a cargo plane, other is a passenger plane
they are treating the passenger plane as a high jacked
but as cbc put it "that doesnt mean it is high jacked"
Thanks

See some of my earlier posts. All the middle-east newspapers I found are condemning the attack and calling it a terrorist murder etc.
It might surprise you to know that the people you see on television do not represent everyone over there. But of course, seeing Arabs mourning America's loss wouldn't attract viewers. Seeing them celebrate will. Which do think the networks show?
Let's see who really claims responsibility first.
SD
i know how you feel, i found that this angered me greatly as well, because i didn't think that people could be that in-sensitive, but fighting back is not the answer, people are saying that this attack is an act of war, but a war is the last thing that we all want, do we really need even more innocent deaths just to prove a point ??
