Yes... I had that last night.
Go to the index page, scroll down below all of the forums and click "Mark Forums Read". That will remove all of them from your CP.
After that, it should behave properly. 3.5 uses the database rather than cookies/session variables to track read threads, so it's more consistent than 3.0.x in that regard.
Yes, PG is correct. This new feature was turned on and works much better then the previous cookie'd feature. It wont matter where or on which system you read a thread. Read a thread and its read no matter what.
Oh really? Of course it's because of that! Why do you think so many people adds things like "If this post helped rate it by clicking RATE THIS POST.." to their signatures?Quote:
Based on the fact that the wording is accurate, that the forum is replete with iconic symbols every bit as difficult to decipher, that they're all supplied with tooltip explanations of their function, I have to conclude that this one is being harped upon SOLELY because it involves reputation.
The admins should all know about the power of this rating game. All the people that helps here, do you think they do it just because they are good and they like to help? yes, that's a valid reason, but many of them do it because fo the the rep points they receive in exchange and that's why they (we) will want to have that message as explicit as possible.
Most members requesting help here don't even have a clue about what that little icon means. Are they stupid? yes, considering most members here are temporary, they make a bunch of questions for a while and dissapear, many kids making homework, many people that don't even are developers.
I understand you don't like the Reputation system but it's obvious it's because you work here, you work here and you get money from it, we receive nothing but rep points and comments.
Do you know how I started helping people here? One day I saw there was a Rating system, and i saw i was in page 30 (sorting the member list by reps) then i started answering posts and some months after that i was in page 1, now this Forum has my 2700 posts and 2500 of them are answers to other people threads, just because of this rep game. So please, don't underestimate the power of reps by leaving just that little icon and assuming every member will know what it means. Respect the opinion of the real VBF members, the ones who help without receiving nothing in exchange.
There are many members of this forum that have been here, and helping people out, long before there was a rating system. They did it because they could, and because they wanted to.
That philosophy is not gone.
I think you're making a ridiculously big mountain out of a molehill. People that have been here long enough for their ratings to count toward users' reputations will know how to rate posts, whether it's by clicking a text link, an image link, or by spinning anti-clockwise three times on the spot and reciting an incantation.
I personally don't care whether my reputation is 1000 or -1000, it's not going to change whether or how I post. I help people because I feel like it; a little number means nothing to me. It's nice to receive comments on posts to know that they are appreciated. That's about it.
If the reputation text is such a big problem for some users, why don't you make a new button with the text "Rate this post" and replace it instead of the scales. Hence you won't need to spend time changing the forum code to add that text. For me personally, i don't see the big deal. Most people that use the forums regularly would know now about the scales, its just the new people to the forums that don't know about it, and since they usually have less than 20 posts, a rep from them isn't going to do much.
Besides, there have been heaps of new features added (i just recently found out that CTRL+B in the quick reply makes the highlighted text bold :)), so losing one or two of the old features for a few weeks isn't something major, when compared to the work done already to keep this place up.
As I had stated... If time allowed, I'd add text back. I've added "(Rate)" to the template. I left off "this post" to keep the text size small and thus prevent it from pushing the left area too far to the right.
I won't promise to add the text back on future upgrades, but it is there for now :)
Brad!
(Thank you to those that were patient once I had previously said I'd add this if time allowed).
That's true. What I said is also true.Quote:

Problem #2:
(again sorry if it has been posted earlier.)
I've opened my UserCP after 2/3 days and noticed LOTs of my subscribed threads there (starting from 02-23-2007). Most of them I've visited earlier.
This is a new Opera installation. No old cookies. I loged out and re-loged in. But same problem.
???:
When I clicked 'New Posts', this thread didn't show up. Is it normal ?
If the upgraded version doesn't show the threads where I've posted last in "New Posts" results, then I think it is an improvement. :)

Another problem in opera:
When 'Fit To Width' feature is on, in the 'Advanced Reply'/'Reply With Quote' page, sometimes the textbox gets smaller and smaller and smaller when you move mouse over the textbox or over the 'toolbar'.
A couple of comments about the new look 'VBCode' format.
Looking at some code using the new format, I found parts very difficult to read, eg parentheses are rendered in what appears to be light green which on a grey background are almost invisible (on my monitor anyway) and literals look to be pink or a light magenta. My feeling is that the code appearing in a post should mimic as closely as possible the default settings of VB's code editor. Overuse of colour just distracts and clutters the code unnecessarily.
When you copy code from the new highlight tags all the code will be on one single line when you paste it, very annoying especially if it's a big chunk of source code.
NEW POSTS is acting odd.
I just posted in Chit Chat - at 8:36
When I do NEW POSTS I get posts all the way up to 8:39 but the CC post is not in the list (the list goes back for pages).
Why would a post not appear as a NEW POST in the list?
[edit] This post I just made now also does not appear in the NEW POST list...
Now 'New Posts' doesn't show the threads where YOU are the last poster (and the threads you already visited).
it seems that it doesn't show any threads that you're subscribed to.Quote:

I am obeying.
The "New Posts" search (and the "subscribed threads" list in the User CP) now only shows threads if they have new posts since you last looked at them.
Previously all threads got marked as read when you logged out of the forums (or were inactive for 15 minutes - at which point you get automatically logged out), and so nothing got "removed" before.
Now each thread is marked individually, so items are removed from the list as soon as you look at the thread, and is only re-added when there are new posts to it.
It is not showing the threads you've already visited. This is becoming a problem. (Atleast for me). :(
I think the previous bold/not-bold method was better.
Well...it will take some time to get used to it.
I understand what you mean, but for me the good points are worth the "loss".
Now the "New posts" search (if you re-run it) and "subscribed threads" list shrink as you look at threads, so if like me you generally have lots of items in there, it becomes much clearer .
You also don't have to worry about items being removed when you log out or time-out, as threads only get removed when you look at them (or click "mark forums read" on the quick-links menu at the top of the page).
Not like you are going to regularly do this but...
If you mark the forums read and then immediately go for new posts you get the message that there are none.
If you then choose to see all threads from the last 24 hours you see your posts that you replied to mixed in.
I'll be able to get used to not seeing my "just replied" to post move down the list - the old 15 minute timeout/logout thing was much harder to deal with when you returned to the forum after many hours (or days) and had to rush to deal with the "new posts" list before it disappeared on you.
I am also having these problems.Quote:

So - let me see if I understand how to use this...
MARK FORUMS READ - from the INDEX page - this marks all the forums as read so that NEW POSTS won't show any of the items prior to me clicking this button.
I like to use NEW POSTS to see what's up for new activity.
What happens if I finish scrolling through NEW POSTS and don't see anything I'm interested in.
When I go the the INDEX page and click MARK FORUMS READ - what happens if someone just posted a great DB question? Will that question be lost in the time-lag of me going to the index and doing the MARK FORUMS READ?
You can also select today's post from the quick links dropdown. But we hope to resolve the subscription issue eventually. But it didn't break with this upgrade, it's been a problem over the past 3 versions. That's why it's hard to track down, it's not in the templates or files, but in the DB.
Thanks!
Today's Posts is almost like the old New Posts in that it shows your replied to threads...
If you want to find threads you've posted in quickly, select find posts by from the dropdown on your own username.
Thanks Joe!
Anything on the problems with Opera ?
I don't think Joe can fix Opera. :DQuote:

Unless GMail is down, my email notification seems to have stopped working. Would have happened about 10-15 hours ago??
Must be you - I just got e-mail notification of the post you just made in this thread.Quote:

The Opera problems will be tough since I can't seem to reproduce them. I'm replying in opera now and I can't see any issue.
No changes were made to the email notices that I'm aware of. Anyway if the upgrade caused it, it would've happened 2 days ago.
Please ignore my post (#196) discovered that in my subscriptions I have "none" in the notification box beside a thread I started. Not sure how this was set to none or how to change it to "instant". Any help would be handy but it might not be the right place to be asking.
You can subscribe to a single thread in thread tools, or in userCP set it so that you instantly subscribe to any thread you post in.
