To my mind if you can rehabilitate someone you should because it adds one more useful person to society and that makes us all richer. Of course, you often won't be able to, but executing them closes the door on that option forever.

And before you advocate the death penalty for anyone ask yourself this: "Am I really just motivated by revenge?". If the answers yes then dig 2 graves, the second being for a part of your soul. Foregiveness, as they say, is the greatest virtue.

Let's take the extreme case of Jeffrey Dahmer who killed and ate approximately 17 people.

Now, what type of rehabilitation exactly would have helped him? None. Unfortunately, Wisconsin doesn't have capital punishment - so we would have had to feed and medic this person. Fortunately, he met his fate at the hands of another prisoner. Didn't cost the state a thing.

Thats what I hate. People talking about rehabilitation as a reason to reduce someone's sentence. Once you get your sentence, it should be rock solid. It should not change no matter what you do after crime, because what you do after the crime is irrelevant.

Again, violent crimes, especially cold blooded ones should get a reasonable sentence, and parole or pardon based on "rehabilitation" shouldn't even be possible. It doesn't matter, it doesn't.

I think they should make him into a vegetarian.

This is what's great about the whole thread: One size fits all. What works for one person should be applied to all people. Any one example proves the rule for the lot.

Nobody learns nothing anyways, so lock em up and throw away the key at the first opportunity. One strike, you're out. Forget compassion, it never works. Forget humanity, if they don't have any, you don't need it either. If killing is good enough for someone else, then why isn't it good enough for you?

I am ashamed to be any way associated by the complete lack of humanity of the vast majority of contributors of this thread.

Extreme views don't just sit nicely with those who wish to strap explosives to their body and kill people - you must remember that those who do that believe the entire West deserves the death penalty. It lies, also, with the citizens of the West.

Those who condone this sort of behaviour are the reason why the world is in the state it's currently in.

I am with yrwyddfa on this one. How can a society who condone's murder employ double standards and murder its own citizens.

More often than not, the circumstances which lead to murder such as self defense, drunken acts, jeaslousy, mental illness, anger and revenge often go halfway toward explaining how someone is capable of such a thing (although that doesn't make it right).

But there is not much one can do to explain the cold blooded callous acts of some; the death penalty is on par with that.

Sue the judge for premeditated murder.

After re-reading my last thread, I see that I should have included sarcasm tags. I sound like a typical conservative. I suppose that anybody who has been around this forum long enough would have recognized the sarcasm, but others might not.

It's funny reading the Euro views in this thread (and all these threads for that matter). Europe slowly (and steadily gaining speed) erodes and gives way to heathen masses, and some wonder why. :lol:

The Europeans give 10 years to first degree murderers.

They give 3 years to child molestors (who repeatedly raped the same kid).

I've seen the news stories. Something is ****ed up with their system.
