But i would still like to ask you if you are ever going to make something like a tuturial level (like in Red Alert 2 or Star Trek Armada I(I) or Age of Empires II), u get the point.
This would be a good inprovement, and i am willing to download an additional 50 mb's for it if you would include speach or something.
It also is nice that you warned us about the 'stability' for the next version :D
Icheb
p.s. i think i might be able to follow the thread again and give a normal beta report 2 ;)
thanks icheb. stick with it ;)
whoops...Sentience is slipping down the page...
Anyone got anything to say about it today?
We want the new version
(this is giving me a dejavu feeling ;))
Read the above post...
This weekend, you shall have it.
Not long now guys, tomorrow night it shall be ready... :)
Are u able to provide us with a list of everything that's new ?Quote:

(or has been redesigned ?)
Improvements:
* If resolution change fails it will now tell you why
* Directories have been revamped (esp graphics directory)
* New scripts
* Mech design screen has been tinkered with to make more useful
* More button graphics added/screens tidied
* Loads of bug fixes
* Map can now be scrolled by clicking and dragging along the minimap as requested
* Fixed the irritating problem with the minimap clue not being the right size
Additions:
* Third mouse button scrolling added (rate of scrolling can be altered via the options.ini)
* Super duper map annotater (write text on the map)
* Accuracy modifier implemented (damage is based on mech accuracy) +
* Improved visibility algorithms (mechs now have a visibilty rating) #
* Support for 1600*1280 resolution (not tested as my monitor can't handle it)
* Quick build function for fast map making (due to be vastly improved soon)
And other stuff as well but I forget what I've done. I'll post if I remember.
+ Damage is affected by the accuracy of a mech. Upgrades can be applied to improve the mech accuracy. Accuracy is also affected depending on whether you've moved or not that turn. This is no 'hit or miss' - all shots hit, but the damage they do is now influenced by accuracy.
# Mechs now have a visibility rating. If a mech has a high visibility rating then it will be visible further away than normal (as it stands out). A mech with a negative visibility rating is a stealthy mech and you'll have to be closer to it to see it.
Are you able to do something like Triggers in Scenario editing, if useing a fixed scenario ?Quote:

How are you doing this, i have something similair in one of my programs, but sometimes, in windows 95 the system needs to reboot and the program kinda doesn't accept it after the reboot (which i can trigger useing api's)

Where did you fix what bugs ?
Or is the list too long ? ;)

Maybe something for the option screen ?

(Yeah, like AOE again), if so it wouldn't be very hard to include scenario's to learn how the game works (yeah, i keep hammering on this until i figure out how to use the game)
Icheb
I'm switching the res using API calls so it might vomit if it wants to restart but hey, not my problem - just use a different res... :p
A trigger system is still being considered but it's going to be a long way off. The game has a tutorial with it though and more and more screens are having tutorials added (or will be).
I've also added a message bank (you'll see the benefits of this in another version or two, but for now you can just marvel at the potential... ;) )
I've added building and units names (turned on and off in the options screen).
Someone mentioned a problem with the pathfinding, but I've not been able to duplicate it. I've tried everything from pathfinding to the square next to me to scooting off to the other side of the world and trying to get to the middle of the sea. It's never crashed yet, it just says either "course plotted" (and plots it) or "unable to reach destination" (and doesn't).
If anyone else can break the pathfinding then let me know. I'll need lots of screenshots and to know exactly what was happening and how the map was set up.
Late breaking news...
With the help of the might Misanthrop I've finally managed to conquer the seriously irritating problem with stretchblt making a balls of the unit colour schemes. Now the units are displayed in their full palette glory, truly showing off Behemoths work.
Today is a good day... :)
Ho Ho Hoka Hey!!!
Right, the new version is uploaded now in the usual place!
It's an even smaller download than before (less that 3mb) and has got loads of new things to see and do.
I did mention that it might be a bit less stable than some other versions, but I've tested it a lot lately and it stands up fine.
Extra points go to anyone who can break it! :)
Let me know what you think and what else can be done to improve it.. :)
I got a run-time error: object required (424). I attempted to go under the RMV slurp screen.
Then, after getting this error, I reopened Sentince to attempt to recreate the bug. After opening a new , the RMV Walker mech was a black square (picture attached).
Then, I attempted to exit the launcher, but it wouldn't let me because it thought Sentince was still running.
Three bugs in less then 5 minutes of playing around with the ...:D
I just thought I would mention that after the run-time error, sentince was still using 84% of my processer power...

Thanks for you quick response.
Well, I've duplicated the RMV screen problem and fixed it - a new Sencore is uploaded to the site for you. :)
Ok, the problem with the mech is a little unusual. I've been working on that recently so it's been tested to death and I never managed to get that. Are you running anything else in the background - if so, please kill 'em. Also, next time it does that could you quickly alt+tab out, go to the graphics directory and post the file called "temp.bmp" up here for me please? Ta!
Ok, the launcher...
Next time it refuses to restore the res, could you please take a screenshot of your entire desktop and post that up here. If it's too big then please eMail it to me at [email protected] .
Thanks dude!
Who is that girl in the two pictures on the FTP server?
And: Guesss whos getting cable tommorow so he can download the new copy of Sentinence??!!
That's my girlfriend.
And it's only 3mb - you don't need cable... ;)
I got the black mech problem after the program crashed. The first time it didn't do that, then when I went back to recreate the rmv slurp screen problem.
Same here. I follow your steps as you described. I blew up the game on the RMV slurp screen, restarted and couldn't get the balck mech.
Have you been able to redo it with the new sencore?
Is the new core the sencore.rar? If so, it woun't work. If not, I don't fell like downloading the full version again...
By not working, I mean that I can't get it to open.
You can't extract it from the RAR or it errors when SenLauncher calls it?
I can't extract it.
Do you not have WinRar? If not, I'll upload a zip for you.
Anyway, do you (or anyone else) have any further comments about Sentience?
I have winzip, but not winrar. And no, I don't have more comments. I woun't be able to test the new version for about 5 hours (as I am at school). That would be about 3:30 PM PDT, 22:30 GMT. (I don't know if the GMT time is correct, as it is now PDT, not PST here...)
Arb : I know now why i got that strange error the last time, i kinda screwed up my windows...
After backuping 15 gb by placing the HD's in a working computer i manged to do a format c: and install windows xp pro, so the amount of strange errors from me will go down a bit...
But lets go :
1. When i'm in the credit screen the close button (right lower corner) is a picture of somekind, it's kinda funny but it REALLY doesn't belong there
2. Try editing the options before playing and saving them a few times after eachother (with and without accually makeing changes), got myself an error that kinda caused Sentience to crash, screenshot included...
(no comment on background apps, í just installed a new OS 3 days ago, haven't had time to restore my backups yet)
i'm sorry i didn't make a screenshot of my entire screen but i kinda lost the progtram i used to do that...
3. Not confirmed : It looked like a strange error again; when i use SenLauncher @ 1152:864 (my normal desktop res) it looks like the game itsself (or at least the main screen) goes to 800x600, the font it way larger than normal...
Will test more to confirm this.
Icheb
Thanks for these Icheb. I'll post back later with some comments for you...
I will do more testing, but sience my last post, I have been too busying working on the Unlimited Items to be able to test the game more. If you want, you can head over to that thread and have a look at the items, and give feedback on them and the logos that people have made for the game so far.
his is the longest thread I have ever seen, longest thread record?
I think that this thread is the longest on the forums. It is almost 2000 posts (1956 currently). Soon they will need to modify the server to display the number properly (:rolleyes:you know like 2K or 20K:rolleyes: )...
lol:rolleyes:
Gaming,
I'll head in there and have a look but I have precious little time at the moment. Not even enough time to give Icheb a decent response on the above... :(
It'll be tomorrow before I can comment.
All,
Longest thread? Not even close. Check out the Post Race thread in chit chat. Now that's one big hombre!!!
It might hold the record for 'longest thread with sensible posts in' though... ;)
Ok, well have a look when you have the time. It would be nice to know what you think of the set of weapons I have come up with, and to see if you have any ideas for more weapons (49 unquie, 16 item types, and 117 base items isn't enough...).

Added to bug list

Odd, I'll try and duplicate that one.

let me know what you find. The main screen, pick player screen and map maker screen are all in 800x600 res and won't change no matter what res you select in the launcher. The res only changes when you go into the game proper (at the next player screen).

You know the solution to this one... ;)
5. Sentience really is 800x600, what function does the launcher have ?
No it isn't, see above response. The menu screens are, the game screens aren't
6. When doing a new game, selecting players 1 and the last one, with the rest not selected (nice tuturial btw), and chosing a good map config (sorry, forgat the exact settings)...
I got an serious error that caused Sentience to end, see the error in the screenshot.
I'll try and duplicate it. See if you can do it again as it might have been something to do with the map settings....

I've posted in your thread. :)Quote:

And I replyed to it. http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.p...110#post957110 will bring you to the responce to your post (no need to read the rest, except for the new logo that Sastraxi made...).
My next post here will include the resoluts from some testing I will do in Sentince.
Some bugs:
1) The research screen displays lines after the right-most techs (not Sentince) that don't connect to anything. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post); bug1.jpg.
2) The generating mosters code seminly locked up the . It may have just been taking a long time, but I don't think this is the case, as the computer was showing almost no activity.
3) The splash screen displays over the first player screen. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);.
4) The start menu displays over the main menu screen. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug3.jpg.
5) The black part of the right section of the Sentince logo bar disappers as the menu is sliding left. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug3.jpg.
6) The sentince taskbar item displays the standerd icon, and no caption. The senlauncher displays a custom icon, and a non-professional looking caption (it would look better if it said Sentince Launcher, instead of SenLauncher). Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug4.jpg.
7) The first transition between the main menu and new creen isn't smooth. Parts of the screen flash over instantly, while other parts take upto 1/2 of a second (although most take 1/10th of a second). Although barely noticable consintly, it does make the look less professional.
8) The text for the military fraction is incomplete. It ends in mid-word. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug5.jpg.
9) The code for displaying the text for the fractions displays it somewhat oddly, with words being partily placed on one line, then snapping to the next line when the complete word is displayed.
10) The percentages of land use can be set over 100%. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug6.jpg.
11) The percentages of land use can go beyond the size of the text box. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug6.jpg.
12) When I minimized to save screen shot #6, the hut down. The resolution didn't snap back until I clicked on the SenLauncher taskbar item. I know that you will say that this is due to the fact the other programs were running (such as Photoshop, Task Manager, MSN, INet, SenLauncher), but they were running at other points when the was running perfectly (aside from non-proformance related bugs). --- NEVERMIND. It just disappered from the taskbar, and stoped using processer power (although it didn't lock up), the screen resolution did change though...
13) After setting the percentages as you saw in bug6.jpg, the map was completly mountains. Screenshot attached (or will be to a subsquance post);bug7.jpg.
14) After the odd occuriance of bug #12, it allowed me to shut down the launcher (which you fixed normally). After doing so, I attempted to shut down the . This resulted in the resolution going back to 800x600, and not changing back to my normal resolution. (as would be expeted)
There we go. Some are more major then others, some are much odder then others. But 14 bugs, most with screen shots. And damn, I wanted to report 13 bugs, not 14 :(:(. But I figured that reported all of the ones I found was more important then getting 13 bugs excatly:rolleyes:...
