Thanks :)
I only approve of linux if people are abusing it rather than using it :)
My friend removed his linux partion a while ago, but now he installed it on his firewall comp, but I've been witnessing how unstable linux actually is ;)
*flash, whips-out*
. . . But have you seen one of these . . .http://www.vbforums.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=629026
MUAHAHAHA, have we successfully converted him?
That last one was only targeted at people who are impressed by start buttons. If you are busy writing your own compiler or modelling mass transfers into black holes or whatever just ignore it ;)Quote:

Yes it was a very quick installation . . .Quote:

Aha, so you're using linux in dual boot with xp(and running xp at the moment(or almost all the time?)?)?
Are you a linux user or abuser?
Or doing finite element analysis post-processing in which case you don't use Windows :pQuote:

I like custard.
I like Jammie Wagon Wheels.
. . I used a 32kB BBC model B to do finite element analysisQuote:

Kzin - Yep, but this is a bit more complicated methinks :D
Although, I did FEA on an Archimedes which was cool (wobbly chair falling down the stairs :D).
No, just throw him harder :pQuote:

Different material properties for loads of stuff, the folder containing the pre-assessment procedures is about 5 inches thick. We use ABAQUS for the analysis and at the moment we're writing the next version of our internal post-processing software. We license it to a couple of universities as well as use it ourselves.
Wow!Quote:

isn't there an ABAQUS for NT?
Up at British Energy in Gloucester :)
There might be, but we use the SGI version (so that we can run long jobs - as in months) because NT itself isn't stable enough.
Parksie working with nuclear energy..........now that's a scary thought. Does explain why he is green and glowing in his avatar too!
I heard working at nuclear plants makes you infertile...
Pretty graphics too!Quote:

I don't work at a nuclear plant, I work in an office :p
Is that related to BNF or CEGB?Quote:

Yep. One of the things I need to do is convert some contouring code from FORTRAN to C++...:eek:Quote:

So the world is safe from little Parksies and Parkettes?
CEGB I think, and also Nuclear Electric and Scottish Nuclear.Quote:

Katie - unfortunately not :p
Then how do you account for the avatar?
So you won't have the energy to relight the light at the end if Katies tunnel??. . .Quote:

Due to the energy crisis, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.
to make contoured/coloured surface plots from multidimensional arrays/datasets??Quote:

Even if he did, the state of California would find a way to sell it to the other states around us for two times what he charged for it and then buy it back at three times the original cost and up our monthly bill by four times. Thanks for thinking of me though!
Yep. Primarily values for stress and strain :) Not sure whether the old version does it from nodes or gauss points.Quote:

Use PVWave!Quote:

ummm. okay. i've bin trying to follow this, but i'm even more confused than ever. What the heck is going on here?
I think Matlab will generate the C++ code for that automatically.Quote:

Have to go now, but Katie will probably tell you about Matlab

I went with PVWave rather than Matlab only because you said you weren't on NT. Matlab is much more user friendly though!
Rinoa...there really is no purpose to this thread. It's more sort of a chat thread.....you never know what you'll find in here. We happen to be rather tame right now but other times it can get scary!!
I am scared now actuallyQuote:
