With the genererating monsters, it takes a while, and there is no progress update, therefore making the look like it locked up (I ran into this before too, but I must have forgotten to mention it).

No probs. Just change your desktop res. :)Quote:

very annoying
It does take a while - I've yet to figure out why. I'll also be improving the progress bar some more when I do some more code enhancements.Quote:

One trick you could do to make the generation code seem faster is to put in a progress update (progress bar, a number counting up, ect).
I was thinking of posting that solution to An Al bum Cover's complaint. I have no problem with it (aside from the fact that it draws your attion to it, which is a somewhat good thing...), and I use 1280x1024, and would go higher if my monitor and video card would support it...
well, i do a whole lot or work at school and we're not allowed to change anything about the computer settings (like, the disp. property wont even come up) and i work on my dad's comp at home, and he wont let me change anything about his set up eitherQuote:

:(
Sounds like you need XP, as I belive that if you change the resolution on one account, it leaves it the same for the others...
ya we have XP, but we cant get it to work
And, incase you for got the code for xp goes a little sumthing like this:
Do While 1 + 1 = 2
Me.Suck
Loop
Thats the wrong version of windows. XP is really good. I find that it rarely locks up (I now use ctrl+alt+del more for the proformance graphs then shutting down programs). Very few blue screens (although when it decides to go to a blue screen your comp will reboot in a few seconds...).
VB Code:
Do While 1 + 1 = 2 Lockup_Computer Loop
is for ME...
it seems like i'm always restarting my computer( im running 98 2nd edition or sumthing)
but then again im impatient as a cheetah trapped in a snail's body... ;)
and im always running about 5 different programs, (winamp, vb, paint, paint again, vb again, sumtimes word, etc...) and i never give my computer time to load
im thinking the computers just messed up tho, cuz it wont connect to internet, sum dumb modem problem:rolleyes:
I must admit, my computer acts odd, but then again I have messed around in the registry many times, messing up all kinds of junk...
on 2k sp2 now and its dead stable :)
I had no trouble at all with 98SE ever though...well until I started messing about with it...;)
Ya, they usually start screwing up when you mess with 'em
i do that all the time
only half the time i [forget/dont know from the begining] wut im doing
The Dev machine is XP and previously it was 98SE.
Part of the trials of writing a peice of software as complicated as this is getting it to work on most machines - there's just so much hardware out there it's difficult to make it work on it all...
Well its always worked perfectly for me.
My laptop started out as Win98SE, then I upgraded to WinME, then I upgraded to Win2kPro.
Sentience has been tested and has run perfectly under all three operating systems
I liked it but:
You need to work with the overall design. I think it was difficult to learn all controls etc. The best sollution should be some icons with some logical graphic to each button for example.
Keep up the good work.
WinMe is a downgrade, not an upgrade. I'm not even sure if it would be an upgrade from Win 3.1. From what I could tell from it, it was the WORST of win98 and win2k...Quote:

Nice Game you got here.
Needs some debugging and perhaps error handling though.
Maybe its because im running Windows XP........
No, XP isn't the problem. Read up a little ways and you'd find that it is being devolped on XP.
Do u know Windows 1.0 ?Quote:

Me is an upgrade of windows 1.0, with the upgrade it tries to get onto the same level as windows 95 but it is even worse than windows 3.11 so they made an upgrade from windows 1.0 to windows 3.0... (and thats ME):D
That's good to know. I myself have confirmed that it works under XP and 98SE (both the dev machines) and it also runs on a P133, 16mb ram, 1mb shared graphic card running win95 (my "state of the ark" laptop).Quote:

Thanks for trying it Kenneth. :)Quote:

Which parts were difficult to control? Behemoth and I have been bouncing ideas around to improve the UI so it would be interesting to see if what you say matches what we think.
Which bits weren't intuitive? If you can narrow it down, I can tackle that for the next release... :)

Thanks for downloading it. :)
It is a test release so some bugs are expected, but I would like to know what specific ones you've come across. If you could write down:
* The bug
* Where you were
* What you were doing at the time
* It's severity (irritating / crashed game / blew up PC etc)
And if possible take a screen shot please.
Thanks!
PS - Just in case anyone cares, I upgraded the dev machine to XP a few months back and as far as I can tell, it's the mutts nutts!
It seldom crashes and only occaisionally behaves erratically. 98SE was pretty bizarre at times.
XP's also great if you tinker with your system as the system restore tool is just great. My machine was going bonkers a few days ago and refuse to run a piece of software depsite uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I restored the machine from a point two weeks back and it was fine.
Only problem is XP looks like a cartoon operating system when you install it. Daft start menu, garish colours. I simply turned all that off so it looks like 98SE and off I went!
All in all, a big thumbs up for XP.
PPS - If anyone's interested in what cosmetic enhancements Behemoth and I decided on then please check the Sentience thread in the comms forum. :)
atm i've installed a sucundairy monitor, i will try if i can test Sentience on it later today, i really wanna know what windows will do with it ;-)
It took me a while to get used to their new disgin, but I found that it makes it easier to navigate (athough I didn't like the new control panel). The save points are nice, but I have never set them up, but still do a lot of messing around in the registry.
Ok, Sentience related question now.
What would you all like to see in the next version?
Plend, you don't need to answer this... ;)
Ok, here we go :Quote:

* more realistic drawings
* with this one someone is gonna kill me ( i liked the backgrond of the old loading screen better)
* can't u make the launcher and the game itself into 1 exe, looks better :D
* a way to save the res in wich u wanna play so that u dont have to select them each time
Will add more later...

Oh yeah! A more realistic 8ft sand crab being chased by a 35 ton war mech
* with this one someone is gonna kill me ( i liked the backgrond of the old loading screen better)
Tough
* can't u make the launcher and the game itself into 1 exe, looks better :D
no
* a way to save the res in wich u wanna play so that u dont have to select them each time
It does.... The res is stored in the registry - you don't have to select it every time...

Maybe make it a bit easier to use for people who don't know the game aswell as u do, example, i've been in the project for about 6 months (or something) and i still do not understand the game !! And no, it's not me (i think), i've done other beta tests, and those games were a bit easier to understand and to work with...
* more realistic drawings
Oh yeah! A more realistic 8ft sand crab being chased by a 35 ton war mech
no, that's not what i meant, i mean can't u make them a bit more realistic so that they resemble more like real pics (photo's or something) instead of drawings
* with this one someone is gonna kill me ( i liked the backgrond of the old loading screen better)
Tough
* can't u make the launcher and the game itself into 1 exe, looks better
no
and why not ?
* a way to save the res in wich u wanna play so that u dont have to select them each time
It does.... The res is stored in the registry - you don't have to select it every time...
but why not make an option so that the game starts immedately when u start the launcher ?
This way the game can load faster, if u would make a link from a config system (in the game) to the launcher it really would look alot better (i think)
Icheb
This is kinda a half bug, half feature list.
1) No bugs (there is no need to say this is impossible...)
2) For the toturail to save the fact that you don't want it (it comes up every time, wheither or not I tell it not to)
3) Don't know if your planning this, but possibly support for after a major event is completed (such as the defeat of an enemy, or the building of a Special Project) (no, I don't mean having the , but just visiable support for them)
4) I agree with Icheb's autostarter. Where if you open the launcher, you may have it set to auto-start the on a pre-set resolution.
5) Better background on the Launcher.
6) The main-screen being at the selected resolution (along with a few others)
7) Print screen saving the picture to a file, instead of the clipboard.
8) Easier to tell if you are over a button (on a few screens nothing happens).
9) Differnt mouse cousers.
10) Progress bar showing the completion of the monster generation code. It takes a while to run, with no progress bar.
11) A way to exit between turns.
12) Not having bullets frezee if you shoot another shot.
13) Having the technology screen at the selected resolution.
Lol, I understand the perfectly, the only problem is I quick when I find a bug (so that the screen shot can be saved).
Also, do you know how to get a sechulded task of Defrag to work (by work I mean start defraging)? That is in XP.
I get to the first screen, then start the game and it crashes. Thats all
Whats a bsod?Quote:

Icheb
I figure that if arb doesn't want to implement screen shot code, then he will have to deal with only one or two screen shots from each bug list...
bsod = blue screen of deathQuote:

Lol.
Is arb ever going to reply to this?
Gaming/Icheb - points adressed below...

Asking a bit much there - the best I can say is you can point em out and I can duplicate em, I'll fix em
2) For the toturail to save the fact that you don't want it (it comes up every time, wheither or not I tell it not to)
So it doesn't save the fact? I'll get on it
3) Don't know if your planning this, but possibly support for after a major event is completed (such as the defeat of an enemy, or the building of a Special Project) (no, I don't mean having the , but just visiable support for them)
Don't understand you there pal...
4) I agree with Icheb's autostarter. Where if you open the launcher, you may have it set to auto-start the on a pre-set resolution.
If the launcher automatically puts you straight in the game, how do you change the resolution?
5) Better background on the Launcher.
Yep - it's still work in progress
6) The main-screen being at the selected resolution (along with a few others)
Main screen, pick player screen etc will remain at 800x600. There's no point making them resizable
7) Print screen saving the picture to a file, instead of the clipboard.
Too much effort for too little gain. I don't have a lot of time to work on it anymore so I need to target the important things
8) Easier to tell if you are over a button (on a few screens nothing happens).
Yep - that'll be being fixed soon
9) Differnt mouse cousers.
Nice, but low priority
10) Progress bar showing the completion of the monster generation code. It takes a while to run, with no progress bar.
Coming soon
11) A way to exit between turns.
Eh? What's wrong with the quit button?
12) Not having bullets frezee if you shoot another shot.
Added to bug list
13) Having the technology screen at the selected resolution.
Isn't it? It is for me...
Lol, I understand the perfectly, the only problem is I quick when I find a bug (so that the screen shot can be saved).
Thanks Gaming.Quote:

Thanks for having a go. What error message is displayed when the game crashes?
