Forum Upgrade Issues

The "New Posts" search (and the "subscribed threads" list in the User CP) now only shows threads if they have new posts since you last looked at them.

Previously all threads got marked as read when you logged out of the forums (or were inactive for 15 minutes - at which point you get automatically logged out), and so nothing got "removed" before.

Now each thread is marked individually, so items are removed from the list as soon as you look at the thread, and is only re-added when there are new posts to it.

It is not showing the threads you've already visited. This is becoming a problem. (Atleast for me). :(

I think the previous bold/not-bold method was better.

Well...it will take some time to get used to it.

I understand what you mean, but for me the good points are worth the "loss".

Now the "New posts" search (if you re-run it) and "subscribed threads" list shrink as you look at threads, so if like me you generally have lots of items in there, it becomes much clearer .

You also don't have to worry about items being removed when you log out or time-out, as threads only get removed when you look at them (or click "mark forums read" on the quick-links menu at the top of the page).

Not like you are going to regularly do this but...

If you mark the forums read and then immediately go for new posts you get the message that there are none.

If you then choose to see all threads from the last 24 hours you see your posts that you replied to mixed in.

I'll be able to get used to not seeing my "just replied" to post move down the list - the old 15 minute timeout/logout thing was much harder to deal with when you returned to the forum after many hours (or days) and had to rush to deal with the "new posts" list before it disappeared on you.

So - let me see if I understand how to use this...

MARK FORUMS READ - from the INDEX page - this marks all the forums as read so that NEW POSTS won't show any of the items prior to me clicking this button.

I like to use NEW POSTS to see what's up for new activity.

What happens if I finish scrolling through NEW POSTS and don't see anything I'm interested in.

When I go the the INDEX page and click MARK FORUMS READ - what happens if someone just posted a great DB question? Will that question be lost in the time-lag of me going to the index and doing the MARK FORUMS READ?

You can also select today's post from the quick links dropdown. But we hope to resolve the subscription issue eventually. But it didn't break with this upgrade, it's been a problem over the past 3 versions. That's why it's hard to track down, it's not in the templates or files, but in the DB.

Today's Posts is almost like the old New Posts in that it shows your replied to threads...

If you want to find threads you've posted in quickly, select find posts by from the dropdown on your own username.

But may be it is a JavaScript problem that has a workaround.

Or maybe he (or you) could kindly write a user stylesheet (for users like me who doesn't know CSS :() that solves this problem. :D

Unless GMail is down, my email notification seems to have stopped working. Would have happened about 10-15 hours ago??

That's wierd. Maybe it's just in the visual basic classic forum because I got a notification on your post as well.

The Opera problems will be tough since I can't seem to reproduce them. I'm replying in opera now and I can't see any issue.

No changes were made to the email notices that I'm aware of. Anyway if the upgrade caused it, it would've happened 2 days ago.

Please ignore my post (#196) discovered that in my subscriptions I have "none" in the notification box beside a thread I started. Not sure how this was set to none or how to change it to "instant". Any help would be handy but it might not be the right place to be asking.

You can subscribe to a single thread in thread tools, or in userCP set it so that you instantly subscribe to any thread you post in.

I'm not worried about the way borders are being rendered incorrectly.
But this 'textbox-is-getting-smaller-and-smaller' thing is making me mad. This is happening in 'advanced Reply' page when "fit-to-width' is turned on.

I hope the Opera team solves this problem.

I can't reproduce that issue either. I'm using 9.02 to post. This isn't my normal browser and I don't know what "fit to width" is or where to enable it. But without it the page displays fine.

If the webpage's width is larger than screen width, this "Fit-to-width" rendering fits the page width inside current window. It resizes images and wraps text. It is a very useful feature for low resolution users like me .

Right side of the 'zoom factor' combo, you'll find "Fit to width" checkbox.

Ah yes, that did it. I see the issue now. Afraid there's nothing much I can do about it though, other than the obvious suggestion of unchecking that feature. We make sure our pages fill the screen at any res. so it's not needed here. I gather Opera doesn't allow that feature on a per tab basis, just globally.

There is a workaround.

Goto, Tools>Appearence...>Buttons>Browser View
Add the 'fit to width button' on a toolbar. This button shortcut works on per tab basis. But still it is very annoying. Everytime you post a reply you'll need to click it. You can't turn-off this feature for specific site.

well..as there is no other solution...I guess I have to live with that. :(

That's fixable too, but the userbase didn't like the solution. (forcing spaces which allow line wrapping, after a given number of chars)

Apologize if this has been addressed & I missed it.
When I return to a forum, all the threads (topics) are marked in bold, unless I've visited that thread. It used to be that if I visited a forum on, say, Monday at 5pm, the next time I visited only posts with new messages would be in bold.
This is/was a great timesaving feature. Please add it back in if you can or let me know if it's my error. (I did go to index page & click "Mark all read"). Thank you.

I noticed that some of the new highlight code posts are working when copy/pasted into VB. Did we get a fix applied for this or is it a few isolated incidents?

No changes were made, must be something to do with how they were formatted to begin with
