Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
Opera's optimized speed has its downsides: I've found many annoying rendering bugs in it, which are probably there due to optimization tricks. They've optimized it too much from the wrong places so that it affects the result. Just two-three days ago did a pretty cool CSS-thing that worked fine on Firefox 1.5, good enough in IE6, but Opera, oh Opera... it made itself an opera. I had to figure out a separate workaround to its problem, and yet it resulted in that I'd have to use a browser detection to make the thing work as originally meant in Firefox, Konqueror and Safari (which are the browsers that appear to work).
As a btw, I didn't try to use any Firefox-only supported CSS, but CSS that should work in a modern browser. The biggest problem was position : fixed; that appeared to work correctly only in Firefox. Opera seems to place element using it... uh... where-ever it wishes. I haven't found a logic behind it.

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
^^What he said^^
I converted my school to Fx.
The Administrator is a Fx LoVer.
He took the source home and. Fixed it up for "school security" standards.
IE. To many bugs.
Fx. Havent fet had a problem with it.
Opera. Its far better then IE.But the XML parsing is "nowhere to be found".
Although Opera Has many features that are closely resembling Fx.
Id use Fx Hands down.
Ohh and i converted my IE luvin Friend to Fx after hitting him in the head a few times.

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
does a mb more here and there make a difference so what if its 5 mb atleast you dont have to apply those long unending list of updates.just the other day found that windows update had downloaded 20+ security updates in a single day.i wonder what these guys at microsoft do ! .think they deliberately make security lapses .so that they can force users to depend on their updates .today while i was surfing a few security sites stumbled upon this site "secunia.com" which has a long list of security vulnerabilities .check out the ie6 ie6 and firefox fx 1.5 pages one can hardly see a patched tick in ie6!!

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
The service pack for Visual Studio 2005 was in planning before VS itself was released. I think that sums up Microsoft's attitude to patching bugs.

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
I did try flock for a while, but I think firefox is way cooler than that. Also firefox was here first.
I still keep wondering why they didn't build an extension to firefox in the first place.

I use Firefox almost exclusively. I design in it and then as a last step, I open IE and fix anything that IE screws up because of its non-W3 HTML compliance.

The new version of Opera doesn't render some pages correctly. I am a little annoyed that I might revert back to firefox.

Prolly cause all they were focused on was passing the acid2 test.

I have blue Microsoft blood in me even though I have green skin. The green skin is a side effect of the colors mixing and producing green.

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
I just reseted my biggest forum's counter yesterday and now Firefox has taken the lead :) Pretty good for a fully non-technical forum (the only thing common with everyone on the forum is appreciation of J.R.R. Tolkien's books). Here is the statistics page. Hoping IE keeps falling down and that the other browsers gain ground. Supporting IE is kind of bothersome with actively developed board.

Name one thing IE can do better then Fx besides get you a virus or fifty which more people do not consider a useful feature ;)
Fx may be crap but I guess that makes IE what...? its already botton of the pile it can't get any lower anyway ;)

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
No it cant so that means the only way is Up :D
IE is an industry standard and more widely used. FF is used more at home or for recreational use. Very few companies use FF exclusively like they do IE. :)

You can't be more wrong :P
Internet sites like new features because people like new features, new features require innovation and implimentation. IE lacks both innovation and implimentation. OK it was innovative when it was first released thats why it beat Netscape but after that the monopoly showed its real intent and stopped development, stopped innovating and stopped implimentation.
Firefox impliments all the latest standards as quickly as possible and thus allows sites to be innovative with their new features :-)
Can you see the logic behind that?
Firefox -> Implimentation -> Innovation of site makers -> Happy users.
IE -> No Implimentation -> Boring old rubbish for sites -> Unhappy users.
Seeing as internet sites (companies) like users they require innovation to keep interest up and for innovation we need implimentation of standards, IE kills this stage so Fx is far more useful to companies than internet explorer which lacks even th most basic standards (Although they are now stating to support them which I give them credit for).
Its a simple concept :D

Accept the fact Fx is just better, it has more features, more standards support, bugs don't take 5 years to be fixed (there are exceptions), its far more secure and it has an open plugin system... none of those are questionable. I never said VBF was boring, the CSS is just hacked to make shure it works with IE OK. Make a site test case without macking the hacks and IE will have more then a few problems ;)
Fx rules the world and you can't see it :P

Re: Spread the word! Firefox.
No! :D FF'ers are nothing more then a delusional cult being fed bloated useless features and plugins.
Its only a matter of time. Even the Bugs are starting to appear now in FF. :p

Starting...? Why do you think bugzilla was made? There are still open bugs from 2001 ;)
No-one ever claimed Firefox is bug free because its not and I question anyone that says it is but neither is IE :P
Plugins are not useless... while you have to live with internet ads and crap I can just block them... poor you.

I don't think you've said a single coherent thing in this thread and you accuse us of being a delusional cult
Honestly if IE suited me better I would use it. Same for most Firefox users.

If everyone started to eat my favorite food. That would not help me. But if everyone started to use a browser that rendered by the rules, THAT WOULD HELP ME...;)
