I was up there fo an interview last year for a contract job, first time I've been to the city. It's a good 200 miles from where I Live , got there and drove straight through the city centre before I even realised with all those bloody kingsways and what ever they are called. seemed a reasonable city from a first glance but as I didn't get the job , I abviously didn't get to have a good nosy around. 8 hours of car journey for a half hour interview seemed a bit excessive :)

Admittedly, there has been a lot of American critisism lately but I don't really see why people are getting so up tight about it. By all means, defend your country. If you don't want to get involved in such discussions, don't take part.
I suppose that, in Britain, we are always slagging each other and everyone else off. It's all part of our humour nad we don't take it too seriously. The Welsh and Scottish slag off the English. Northerners slag off southerners (and vice versa). Everyone slags off Londoners. It's all par for the course.

At the end of the day, America are the top dogs in the world at the moment and are economically and politically dominant. They are going to be the brunt of many people's snide comments and insults. That's what comes with the territory.

Mmmm. I've been doing a bit of trawling through threads. I have the following comments.
JBTennisman and Patoooey (who I suspect are the same person) are arrogant and abusive Americans who probably taint everyone elses views of the USA with their blind hatred for others.
Katie is probably one of the most reasonable people on here from any nation and can take and give critisisim of her country better than almost anyone else here. I don't understand GR's cartoon about her, as she certainly doesn't go bragging about America. She is proud of her nation (as we are all proud of our homelands), but not to the point where she is blind to it's faults. You might be surprised to know that there are a lot of Americans like this.
These are two diametrically opposite people, yet they do tend to be lumped together (much to Katies detriment). I work with a lot of Americans, and despite what the media shows they are almost without exception, excellent people. It is this forums great loss that Katie has gone (but will never be forgotten), and is certainly a warning sign that things have gotten out of control.
I have no problem debating politics, but they quickly degenerate into abusive comments, from both Americans and Non-Americans (I refuse to use the term anti-Americans as I don't think there are many on this board).
So in short. Most Americans are fine in the same way that most Brits are fine (you'll always get a vocal handful of ******s in any country). As for the other nations, hell even the Australians can string a couple of sensible words together every now and then :)

ok lemme explain the cartoon...she made a diss cartoon aimed at me which is cool so i responded
FIRST FRAME:
she said i always attack her country and that it was pathetic, prety straightforward
SECOND FRAME:
in some arguments i see katies attitude as "we can interfere coz we think its right" and basically i was picking on that...and she has said once america is the greatest (thats not bad i just used it in the diss to make her seem more arrogant, lol)
THIRD FRAME:
she told me i was full of bull****, pretty simple aswell
and my responses were basically the way i was feelin (and im sure she felt the same way too) at the time...she had been on and on about the same things and i was just like "what?!" coz i didnt care...again, just to heighten the diss

You responded with a cartoon that involved a gung-ho American saying they were the greatest and had a right to do whatever they liked. That is the kind of thing I could understand if it was aimed at Justin or Patoooey (maybe the same person, I don't really care), or maybe Mikeycorn and some others, but I don't see how this applies to Katie. Yeah she loves her country, but she's clearly not blind to its faults. What you call a diss she takes as an insult. It was bloody obvious she would do from the tone of the thread.
I personally don't think there has been as much anti-US sentiment as some US citizens are perceiving, so I don't think Katie's cartoon was entirely justified either, but she was obviously pretty pissed off. I have to ask, *** has your patriotism and pride got to do with it? Yeah, Wing Chun. It's cool. Haven't been doing it that long but I'm getting the hang of it.
I do some Tai Chi Chu'an too, which is completely different and yet very similar to Wing Chun.

Horse stance is tough, but you get used to it if you keep doing it. You get a lot of endurance in your legs. Personally I'm better than I was when I started but the horse stance still hurts like hell ;)

They suffer from a poor television image much as the Americans do, with biased sports commentators and rioting football thugs etc., but that's only the bits you see on telly. Hell, there's 60 odd million of them, of course there's going to be a few who are ******s. But 99.99% of them are very decent folk.
As for immaturity, I don't think Ian (or was it Harry?) was worrying about the usual frivolous immaturity that keeps us all young. I think it was more of the "well I can't think of a good argument so I'm just going to tell you to shut the $^%@# up" sort of immaturity that a few of the members have.
