Truly Remarkable
*Bump*
I would just like to note in the little time i have been running Vista, on my rather sluggish AMD machine i have yet to have one problem and by golly is it faster than XP. I have iTunes and all other applications up and running almost immediately on XP i had to wait for half the **** to stop "not responding" and stuff (that is with SP3 installed) anyway with my new system i am getting shortly it scored a 5.9 on the Windows Vista Experience thingy, and this machine only scores a 3.7. I guess the point i am trying to make is...
Vista FTW!!!! http://mangahelpers.com/forums/images/smilies/woot.gif
I'll say one thing my computer is running much better since installing SP1. Good Job Microsoft :thumb:
My computer crashed when I installed SP1 :( I had to do a system restore..
"Here's the timing for SP1 availability for current Windows Vista users:
* In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com. Customers who visit Windows Update can choose to install Service Pack 1. If Windows Update determines that the system has one of the drivers we know to be problematic, then Windows Update will not offer SP1. Since we know that some customers may want to update to SP1 anyhow, the download center will allow anyone who wants to install SP1 to do so.
* In mid-April, we will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically. That said, any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not update successfully will not get SP1 automatically. As updates for these drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update, which will unblock these systems from getting Service Pack 1. The result is that more and more systems will automatically get SP1, but only when we are confident they will have a good experience."

Probably Vista...

Yes. Because every time I shift time, a Vista system melts.
Yes, so one would think you'd learn not to do that but nooo!
I keep doing it to convince people that Vista is not worth the money. Unless you got it for free and you happen to have an extra high-power computer lying around, there's no reason to upgrade.
Just like when XP came out. You needed a more powerful computer and the general public didnt see a reason to upgrade just to get the fancy xp styles  :p
What fancy styles? I'm using XP for the speed I get from it. I'm not interested in selling my soul and whatever speed I have just to run the "latest and greatest", even if MS themselves won't use Vista for prototype hardware :p
You talk about stuff you dont know anything about ts, again.
Is Vista even capable of booting up with less than 50 processes?
Dont be mad because you got http://gangstayoda.com/images/misc/fire.gif'ed :D
*Cant we all just get along (means go buy Vista)*
Answer my question.
42 :D
27 ;)
48 :)
I'm still winning.
Well without all the usless **** i have starting up normally at startup i can get it down to 37 :)
yep. I'm still winning.
Mac OSX boots with -9123 processes. *FACT*
Mac OSX boots?
Only if your heart is lighter than a feather.
Yeah... that could be a problem...
Anyway the fact is Vista > XP thats all there is to it, there isn't anymore :)
I upgraded from 98 to XP to get away from the continuous Blue Screen of Death!Quote:

I tried running it and it told me "not compatible" with 64-bit OS. QUITE annoying.
I've got 70 processes going on my XP laptop, and this is a good day. Our Linux server has 218 running.
I don't really understand the obsession with reducing the amount of running processes. This seems like an ignorant optimisation. One might have seventy tasks with negligible footprint, and one mammoth one like Firefox or Word that craps all over everything else. Killing twenty of the other seventy tasks isn't going to improve performance; it might just stop a few things from working.
I have 56 processes running and I have everything running.
(2) VSTS 2005, VSTS 2008, IE7, MSN, (3) RDC, (3) Notepad, (2) VB 6, Outlook 2007, Excel 2007, TaskManager, Acrobat Reader Quickstart etc.
Why should I have fewer processes running if the system can handle it? Because I want to wait for the programs to startup from a complete stop? Acrobat runs in the background so it appears to startup faster. If you use the processes then why not. :p
ah but there are free pdf readers that start faster than acrobat and don't eat up memory constantly.
currently, i am not particularly worried about the memory usage. Since i am using XP, my 2GB is plenty. I have yet to use all of it in daily use. The only program i ran that even came close was Oblivion.
However, a big process eater is Visual Studio. I have three processes running just for the SQL, which i never use. If it ever becomes an issue i might do something about it. As it is, my system's never been faster and i am very happy with it.
FoxIt Reader for example. Doesn't carry all the bloat of Adobe PDF Reader.
I love FoxIt. And no, I wasn't able to determine the problem. What happened is that after I installed SP1, I turned on my computer, it got past the crude, unfinished looking vista loading marquee, and then something like the following line of text showed up on my screen:
!x=8040 whatever whatever whatever.
Basically, something was missing.
I installed Vista enterprise edition last night, haven't got to play with it yet. Does anybody else hate the Leapord vs. Vista commercials with the older "businessy" windows guy and the "hip" apple guy?
Welcome to last year. Or more. We've been hating those commercials for a long time.
