Oh yeah...LOL.:D
Sorry 'bout that one.:)
Did you do the graphic in ur signature?
Yep, I sure did!:D
From scratch, too.:)
it looks good ;)
Thanks!:D
I made my graphic to :)
you need to start by creating a database access wrapper for at least mysql. making a postgresql class would be nice too, but that can be done later. just keep in mind to use ansi sql and not use any mysql 'features' or you'll never be able to port to other databases.
then you need to plan out the framework. you need to develop a method for managing user log ins and maintaining state. need to write a library of functions for common tasks.
before starting on the actual forum i'd have a well planned out database schema. you also need a plan. if a bunch of people just start coding you'll get nothing but a bunch of headaches. figure out exactly what features you want, how things should work and assign jobs.
also, there are so many vbulletin clones out there you're wasting your time unless you can offer something the others dont. think of what you can do to make people want your forum, because otherwise they wont.
lol....check out vBulletin's competition. They are all lacking the important features.
1. Style (some come close, but not close enough)
2. Features (it's either you have vBulletin's look, or you have their features, no board currently offers both)
3. Template system (lets see a board use the .style system...:D)
ok, just throwing that out. if it's already been considered more power to you.
p.s. what's the .style template system?
where all the HTML for the templates and all the style sheets and stuff are saved into a file.
You can just upload a file, and your forums will be completely changed to match it.:)
anyone interested in getting back into this project? i know i am.
why don't you guys just ask john to open a php part in this forum. I think this forum has all anyone would need!!
I believe there is already a PHP section in this forum.:)
well then? why make a new one? This forum has the advantage of already having a big number of readers, and its technically really good, too.
And if the ads bother you I doubt that you will be able to make some forum better than this here without ads because it's not that cheap having computers running 24/7 with a high bandwith and big storage...
I'll think about it :p
not:p :p :p :p :p :p
what do you mean by that?
I think you're missing the point.Quote:
