I don't think there was anything funny about Greta. She accomplished a lot to counter the disinformation champaign funded by the oil companies.
That said, I found it amazing how eager some people were to dismiss the scientific community of climate scientist, even though @ 99% agreed with the basic findings. That high of a percentage of agreement itself is rare. But people didn't rally around the facts, they chose to rally around a teenager. Her words carried more weight.
I found that strange.

I sure will because that is even more comical than her ridiculous melodramatic speech.

Environmentalists and progressives are two different demographics. They do overlap quite a bit but they are separate entities. You could say they are allies that scratch each other's backs from time to time.

I got nothing against Greta. None of that is her fault. She is simply a victim in all of this. You can convince children to do anything because they don't have the wisdom to know when they are being manipulated. This poor child should never have been dragged into any of this mess. What they did to her is evil. They messed up that girl's head and now she can never live a normal happy life. Now she will spend the rest of her life extremely unhappy while jumping from cause to cause inviting all manner of calamity upon herself. I wouldn't wish such a life on my worst enemy.

"Oh. Canada." :p
It seems the moose blinked first, agreeing to drop their many tariffs after all because they fully realize reciprocation would pinch them hard. Suddenly wanting to "cozy up" to Trump because now they see China hungry-eyeing Canada and licking their chops.

Use your own judgement.
Do you think veiled insults aren't personal insults? An insult is an insult and they're all personal..

When the hell have I ever called you stupid? If I did, I apologize, but I don't recall ever calling any of you stupid. And I don't think any of you are stupid. Misguided perhaps but not stupid.

I'm currently wondering what french sparkling wine has to do with oil companies (except the CEO's drinking it by the barrel). :D:p
That said: The world economy is going to the dogs.
The Falkland Islands now have to suffer 41% tariff on all exports to the USA.
How will we survive?

If not that there would have been another reason. Trump fawns all over Russia and Putin. It is obvious and, I believe, without a doubt. He will sell out Ukraine in a heartbeat, he has demonstrated that already. The US is still importing Russian oil, just not directly and above board.

btw: Anyone wants to take a bet on:

Any takers?
(Though i'm aware above is only valid if there is no successful impeachment beforehand.....)

Hopefully the 25th amendment will have been exercised by then.

Re: Post election prediction
Funny tho.
Europe (EU WOKE side) blitching about Russia and sanctions etc.
Yet
https://energyandcleanair.org/februa...and-sanctions/
Europe (include Turkey as this is a "bypass" for Europe) is it's biggest client is some fossil forms.
Also WOKE boy united Micron is proclaiming total war in Russia tho France is the biggest EU fossil fuel buyer.
Who do they think they are foolling? Some probably , that sing the Europe war anthem against Russia. Those are welcome of course for the WOKE boys in Europe as the more idiots the merrier for EU to stay a WOKE group.
At least Trump does not pretend to be a fool, US is buying Russian oil under the table but they don't go about and bash Russia.
Europe is buying Russian fossils and then they impose sanctions and threaten with war. So Trump did good IMO with tariffs in EU and they where low if you ask me.

It seems that they didn't calculate reciprocal tariffs. Rather, they took the bilateral trade deficit as a percentage of total trade and divided by 2. Presumably the aim wasn't to initiate reciprocal tariffs but rather to target the biggest deficits which isn't the same thing.
This creates some weird anomalies, particularly with small economies because their trade deficits fluctuate wildly as a percentage of the whole year on year. It's dumb as a stump, though, because those fluctuation would flatten out taken over, e.g. a decade.
And it does also explain the no tariffs on Russia as, officially at least, there was no trade with Russia last year. Mind you, I'm surprised Trump didn't try and divide by zero to produce INFINITE TARIFFS!!!

You have to understand, are Trump followers say, he is playing three dimensional chess while the rest of the world is on a flat board. His genius cannot be challenged. Personally I think he is playing "demented" chess.

You're stuck in percentages. Truth is the market will regulate itself. Those percentages are for show off , trade in and trade out with other countries will regulate the percentages.
Dump EU "fighting back" will get even more percentages. Although having to do with Germany auto industry (and you don't fk with the industry) EU will probably yell "ATTACK!" giving anti tariffs for "show off" too and will accept some compromisations.
Will see. An initial mania to bash Trump is just keyboard war habit.

Re: Post election prediction
While speculation is fun and interesting, beyond that I don't know what the point is in getting worked up over these economic decisions. Nobody knows what will actually happen, not me, not anyone here, not even Trump himself. Yet, hate him or love him, he is far more qualified than any of us in these matters. I mean he is a billionaire who has been shaking hands and making deals with the financial elite of the world for decades. I'm sure none of us here has anything close to that kind of experience, not to mention he has access to people who like himself also have experience at the highest levels of industry and commerce. He and his people have 4 years to prove themselves so just wait and see what happens. And even if it all ends in failure, this doesn't mean that the Democrats would have succeeded which is something I'm sure many people will say.

Even if you write a doctorate degree essay the keyboard warriors response will be , Trump is fool. Probably every other post they come up with an insult for Trump. Talk about one track mind.
But it's cool it's cool. Steam off , there is nothing you can do than keyboard war and enjoy the show. Whatever bakes your cake, whatever rocks your socks, whatever floats your boat, Whatever ruffles your truffles, Whatever sizzles your bacon.

He has also filed for bankruptcy six times, not exactly a stunning record; he even managed to bankrupt a casino! Also he has multiple convictions for fraud, misused charity funds and had his charity shut down, his "university" was found to be fraudulent and he made a $25 million settlement, and been banned from doing business in NY - those are just off the top of my head.
If he is calling these reciprocal tariffs that implies they are in response to tariffs imposed on the US - that is what reciprocal means; so he is either being misleading in the name, or he honestly doesn't know the difference.
-
Re: Post election prediction
It's always interesting how people respond to events like this. The people that were anti Biden were quick to point out anything he did that might have a negative outcome. Now they're saying, you can't predict the future, let's just wait and see what happens. And now the anti Trumper's(that includes me) are quick to point out possible failures. The circle of life. lol
As for not judging him because we don't have Big Business experience like he does. That's true but provides little comfort because of all his business failures. He inherited a tremendous amount of money, lost it all in failed businesses and was surviving on selling his name to anyone that would pay so they could claim this is "A Trump Property". A lot of peopled got scammed by these people. But he got lucky with the Apprentice and some how convince enough people he has what it takes to be president. Life is unpredictable.
I can certainly understand the nervousness people have over this current situation. The economy directly effects our lives. Many people can't afford to be paying higher prices. If the stock market crashes it will wipe out peoples life long saving and hopes for their retirement. That's a very personal thing.
I don't think that will happen. If the economy and the market continue to tank I think Trump will reverse course. He has already done that more than once. Though we have lost a lot of good will and respect.
I hope I'm right.

What is amazing, and will always be a part of history, is how he reshaped the republican party and modern politics. There is no going back. I'm personally embarrassed for us all. All the traditional norms and guardrails are out the window. Trump has transformed the USA...the repercussions of the global tariffs aren't even known yet.

Why not? It's not that uncommon for political parties to change there ideology(not sure ideology is the right word, maybe political position is closer to what I mean). I believe their ideologies reflect what the voters want. In other words, the voters shape the politicians. They are elected because because they offered the voters what they wanted.
It's true that politicians don't always deliver on what they promise but they always face another election. Trump offered the people a whole lot of things and so far he hasn't come close on delivering much. Cost of living is still rising, economy definitely isn't better, stock market is rattled, war in Gaza continues, war in Ukraine continues. The list of promises is to long so I'll stop there.
It is early, so we'll have to just wait and see. Actually, we don't have a choice but to wait and see. lol

I think to remember D. Trump being a guest on a talk show some 30-40 years ago (?), and when asked if he would run for President, and for which party,
he said (paraphrased) "The republicans, because they are the easiest to fool"

Because the guardrails and norms have been lost. He tried to overthrow the government once, and the people that supported that are still there, and he is threatening to do it again. The generation that expected more and held politicians to account, like you say, is dying off. It is a new world, and I think, there is no going back. Do you think China will go back to serious elections, Russia, Turkey, now we have a strongman just like them - only just taking shape.
Every single day republicans across the country are working to restrict the vote of traditional democratic voting blocs. We have let democracy die while sporting silly red hats. The government is attacking anyone that opposed them last time. Lackies are replacing professionals. He is replacing the DOJ with absolute loyalists and fired the people that oppossed him. Who will try and stop him? In three years it will be "what happened?"
