Went to pick up a Rx and found out my drivers license is expired. Gotta go to the DMV. Crap.
First time in over 15yrs I have to go in and actually take the test. I'm worried about passing the eye test.
So if you see me coming be careful, I'm driving dirty!!!
Yeah, that's never been fun. Worse here now though. We went from a politician determined to have at least one location in every county... to a mess where there are far fewer megacenters. Pretty clearly a case of responsibility being abdicated in favor of construction lobby money. There was an accident outside of LaGrande, OR, yesterday morning. I know little about the accident, but it closed I-84 westbound. That's the only viable route across the Blue Mountains. The only detours possible would add nearly a day for trucks, or several hours (of VERY scenic driving) for cars. The interstate was opened in a couple hours, so the alternative was to wait for it to open, which was clearly faster than the alternatives.
So, what actually happened was that traffic was diverted off the interstate into downtown LaGrande, a tiny city/town, but it wasn't a detour, as there was no way back onto the highway and no way around the problem. That meant that all the trucks and other traffic were milling aimlessly around the streets like rats in a maze, trying to find an exit where one didn't exist.
I thought that was an odd way to address the problem.
Imagine the stranded EVs!

EVs would probably have a chance to charge. If they were headed through the Blues, and this resulted in them being stranded in LaGrande, then they would never have made it through the Blues. There isn't anything along that stretch. There are barely places to turn around, and certainly no services. There is one campground that is supposed to be open year round at the top of the ridge. That would be a winter camping event, which isn't everybody's cup of tea.
Had my DMV appointment this morning. Passed the eye test easily. Decided to make my new drivers license a Real ID. In and out in 30min. I was pleasantly surprised.
I already have an EDL, which serves as a North American passport alternative except for air travel. It's a superset of the Real ID level.
I learned recently, only like 5 states have EDL. My state being one of them. Super convenient, other than ornery border agentsQuote:

There continues to be a deadline as to when you need to get it but it keeps getting pushed back. It looks like the URL I referenced has it pushed back to May 7th of 2025, but I'm willing to bet that it'll be pushed back again.

No, these are different things. In Michigan you can get a regular license, a "Real ID" license, or a full EDL which is a superset of "Real ID."Quote:
