Sunburn,
What runtime errors do you get and where do you get them?
Let me know, and I'll fix them. :)
Thanks for the offer of coding help, but so far it's been entirely self coded so I'm going to stick with doing it on my own. Ta!

If you really want to help, you can provide a detailed explanation of everything you were doing right up the error message and provide screenshots of the message.Quote:

Let me know what size map you had, how many player (human/comp) and most importantly what you were doing just before it all went pear shaped.
That would help me more than any code. :)
I've got a bit done this week despite being flooded and being dumped by my gf.
I've fixed the 1600x1200 mode to work properly, disabled the zooming, added forest growth, added the triggers script (triggers don't work as yet) and vastly improved the speed at which monsters are generated at (which GamingWorld has, correctly, been badgering me to do for a while).
Tomorrow night, I'm going to add more stuff in for the pods and then upload the new version for bug testing. You all ready for it... ? :D
Good, I'm curious to see how many bugs you have placed in it now...
Lets see...Quote:

What Arbiter did is ofcourse way more than described here...
He fixed the old bugs, added new features and offcourse to make the life difficult for a few people he added new bugs < just like m$.
Looking 4ward 2 seeing the new bugs :p :rolleyes:
Sentience is over 34,000 lines of code. Of course there're going to be bugs.
And that's what you guys are for... to find them. :)
going to be ?Quote:

I thought they were already in place and set to go crash the game when they want to ;) :p
They're not bugs, they're undocumented features.... ;)
The same features as they have in windows :pQuote:

(or don''t u use windows API calls in Sentience ?)
I do indeed use API calls. In fact, I have absolutely no external dlls or anything besides that which comes with windows as standard...
Yes, that is what all bugs are.Quote:

What happened to tomorrow night? That was about 2 days ago.Quote:

hey can u save post 2000 for me cheers :)
And the project is speeding forward (toward d00m) @ arbiter speed ;) :p (j/k)
At the moment, Sentience can piss flames out its arse for all I'm concerned. I'm trying to sort my life out at the moment which has gone completely to rat ****.
oh srry for not responding sooner, but i get errors when i click on any thing basicly.btw if you cant continue the project maby others can.
my errors
i click on new game
name:randy
industry
i click on continue
contannt=many
marsh=few
forest=many
rest=avrg
x=50
y=50
lannd=95
seeds=8
mountains=20
marah=7
dirt=20
forest=21
pod=med
life=none
click on gererate
then on ok,
generating monstars = runtime 9 subscript out of range
Thanks for that SunBurn, appreciated.
Did you set life to none yourself? If so, it shouldn't be making monsters at all.
I've got a good idea what's causing that and I'll have it fixed by next release. I've also improved the monster creation by **** loads so it might have already fixed it.
Thanks again!
Does that happen to mean that you got your life sorted out, and we can now expect the next release soon?
Yes.
Far too much processing being done when updating core files.
Just bundle preprocessed files ?
Common controls in options = awful
Remove message "Save options" when moving from sound > game in option screen.
Instead implement an apply/cancel approach ?
I made changes re; tutorials + allowed to save.
Tried to exist that screen + got another message asking to save.
After thatn screen got a runtime error : 34 (Object was unloaded)
You're possibly referencing that form after you're unloaded ?
Game screen cluttered with building descriptions.
Make an option ?
Scrolling game area while scrolling minimimap = cool
Doesnt work though if you click on the resize main map thing
Warehouse details > "fissionable" > "fissible"
+ put border on that window ?
+ components -> big thick scrollbar = ugly
Quick build error screen - "in this case it was the ...."
Could not select torso or any other part when designing mech
+ "destination c/yard" -> give them better names ? eg. Player n's C/Yard x
+ Hit close button + page then filled with a mech and components for some reason
After renaming contstruction yard, can no longer see it in "desintation c/yard"
icons in top right "resources" + .... + "buildings" : non-selected ones look disabled
selected to move building - admin centre
now its called ":-(admin centre"
resolution didnt go back when exiting normally
was 1024*768 and now 800@*600
Thanks for these Plend. :)
1) Updating core files is only done once and helps reduce the download time.
2) Correct. They'll be going.
3) Possibly. That's cosmetic at the moment.
4) Noted. I'll fix that one day. ;)
5) There is. In the options screen.
6) I've disabled the map resize thing. It was bollocks.
7) I'll tidy that up as well.
8) Eh?
9) Odd. I'll try and duplicate that. Might need to get back to you.
10) Rats. I'll fix that.
11) Eh? I'll have a look and see what you mean, but that doesn't make a lot of sense at the mo.
12) Yep. That shows it's a moving building. I'll update the framework to hide the :-(
13) Tossbag. It works fine on mine all the time on every machine I've tried it on. I have no idea what's causing it.

8) If you go into the quick build screen for a mech, i got errors or something.
11) In the game itself, in the top right, those buttons look disabled.
Just bad colours methinks
Roger that.
Whiskey charlie delta two twenty, you have a go!
Hello all.....
I'm new here...been doin' a ton of reading on this game. D/L it and took a quick look.....I'll look into it some more l8tr and would love to help out if I may.....will post any bugs I come across. Nice work so far Arbiter!
:D
I was wondering, which page of this thread is the newest download on? I don't want to wade through all 51 pages. Also, can I help? I'm not very good with vb yet, but I'm a fast learner, and a decent debugger... I think.
Just use any link (its the graphic) in Arbiter's or Benimith's (spelling is wrong) signatures.
What do I download once I'm in there?
Its either SenCore.zip or GameDev.exe. I am not sure which, but I belive it is the latter.
I see that this project has died as I have feared it would for a while.
best game i have ever played, really!! i really like that part when you get to watch the files unzip, and the end when the game is done installing is really awesome, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK:p
its still buggy!
why are there 2 threds? btw wheres the download link??? u removed it from your sig at the bottom.
Check out :Quote:

Hi everybody
I have downloaded the "new" version and:
1. I got a massage that says that it is not able to install direct sound that problem wasn't when I last time downloaded it
2. The interface is just 2/3 of the screen (resolution=1280*2024)
3. How am I supposed to test it if I am thrown out of the game by that overflow bug after a few turns???
Besides didn't you say that you’ll to work on the interface?
Right then kids, I'm back.
I ****ed these forums off for a while because they were full of tossbags but it seems to be under new management now so I've returned.
Jamie me old mucker, how's it hangin'? Feel like you're running a creche yet? :p
Rightyho,
I'm going to clear the files down from my server and upload the latest latest version. It still has bugs but it's been that long since I touched it I can't remember what they are! :D
I'll post up here when it's up. If people would like to download that then I'd love you forever.
If anyone wants to take part then I'm looking for graphic artists.
All work needs to be outputted as 2D bitmaps (specs on request) but you can create it in any package you like before you output it. Full credit will be given in the uh... credits for all those who contribute.
This is the first time the game has been opened up for anything other than testing, get onboard whilst you can! :)
Icheb, Gaming, if you're both still alive then I'd like to hear from you. :)
I'm still here, and I wouldn't mind helping with the game a little more, except for the fact that I can't even draw stick figures very well...
Still here offcourse...
Welcome back !
Welcome Back;)
I thought you have canceled the project and was verry :( but now I am :D again
I ave some experience in photoshop, paintshop and 3DS max(I am not proffesional but...) I can try to do the graphics if you want I really want this game to be PERFECT!
Arthur,
PM or eMail me with your eMail address and I'll have a chat with you about what you feel confident doing, and what Sentience needs. :)
Icheb, Gaming,
Nice to see you guys are still alive. :)
I'll get a new version up soon for you's to have a look at. I'm not sure how different it will be from the 'old' version but I could do with your expert comments again so I know what to start working on. :)
Gaming,
You're in the same boat as me mate, I can't draw to save my life! Unfortunately, the code is still under wraps but if you wish to begin work on the map editor again then that can be your little baby. You had some questions for me to answer last time that I never did, if you can find them and eMail me with them then I'll get them answered asap.
Unless, of course, you're busy with your own projects....
I'll have to start over on the code, cause it is in my backups (around 6 CDs worth), and it would take longer to find the old code (which wasn't very good if I rember correctly) then it would be to write new code.
I'll look for the old questions, which I doubt that I will find. I do rember that one thing I needed was the code for getting the correct tile graphic (for beach tiles, and such).
New version is uploaded guys and gals.
Now, I'm off to bed. :)
I played with the current version for about 15 minutes and found these bugs:
-Unchecking display tutorial on new game doesn't save if you click OK.
-Clicking on any tab resets screen resolution
-End turn resets window size to size before resolution change (if resoultion was changed via a bug)
-Menu displays in an incorrect location (some times, expessilly first display after a res change via a bug)
-Research generates runtime error 53: File not found: graphics/techs/td.bmp
-Fire weapon resets screen res
-Hard to tell if insufficent resources; suggest making it when you click add to bring up a message
-Ending turn w/ a unit AI set to explore causes runtime error 6: overflow
-Can generate mutiple maps (in one game) by clicking generate during map generation (also occurs if main menu is clicked); causes runtime error 10: array is fixed/temporary locked
-Able to set resoultion to a resoultion not supported by monitor/graphics card; error is trapped; you may want to check if the resoution is valid before adding to list
-No selected type icon displays small next to mods on pick players screen
-Unable to build mech error is not complete (it ends with You are lacking ________), where the ____ is empty. Text may be off a little.
This should give you something to do for a while.
Thanks Gaming, points addressed below....
Thanks Gaming! :)Quote:

I'll check that and get it sorted. Added to bug list.
-Clicking on any tab resets screen resolution
What tab, where, what screen? Resets the res how?
-End turn resets window size to size before resolution change (if resoultion was changed via a bug)
I've no idea what this means. I've never had any problem with resolution on any machine I've ever run it on so it's rather hard to debug these..
-Menu displays in an incorrect location (some times, expessilly first display after a res change via a bug)
This will be a knockon effect from the res problem.
-Research generates runtime error 53: File not found: graphics/techs/td.bmp
Whoops. There should be another td.bmp in one of the other directories, just copy it across if you like. Added to bug list.
-Fire weapon resets screen res
What? This is getting silly. The weapon fire routines are in no way related to the res. I think your machine's goosed mate. Have you closed down every program running in the background?
-Hard to tell if insufficent resources; suggest making it when you click add to bring up a message
Insufficient resources for what, where?
-Ending turn w/ a unit AI set to explore causes runtime error 6: overflow
AI's a bit dicky at the mo. I'll look into that.
-Can generate mutiple maps (in one game) by clicking generate during map generation (also occurs if main menu is clicked); causes runtime error 10: array is fixed/temporary locked
Added to bug list.
-Able to set resoultion to a resoultion not supported by monitor/graphics card; error is trapped; you may want to check if the resoution is valid before adding to list
This is known, the launcher is still work in progress. Added to bug list.
-No selected type icon displays small next to mods on pick players screen
Eh?
-Unable to build mech error is not complete (it ends with You are lacking ________), where the ____ is empty. Text may be off a little.
Bonkers. I'll have a look into this, you may need to provide a screenshot for me. Added to bug list.
This should give you something to do for a while.
So. What's the story :)
--Clicking on any tab resets screen resolution
-What tab, where, what screen? Resets the res how?
The main play screen. The screen resolution resets to what it was before playing, the background window resizes but no other window does.
--End turn resets window size to size before resolution change (if resoultion was changed via a bug)
-I've no idea what this means. I've never had any problem with resolution on any machine I've ever run it on so it's rather hard to debug these..
See the above error, its exactly the same expect that it occurs when you end your turn.
--Fire weapon resets screen res
-What? This is getting silly. The weapon fire routines are in no way related to the res. I think your machine's goosed mate. Have you closed down every program running in the background?
Yes, and it happened on 2 machines, both on nearly fresh reboots.
--Hard to tell if insufficent resources; suggest making it when you click add to bring up a message
-Insufficient resources for what, where?
On the build compounents screen, this is just a minor problem and you may yet find a differnt way to resovle it.
--Ending turn w/ a unit AI set to explore causes runtime error 6: overflow
-AI's a bit dicky at the mo. I'll look into that.
I know that, but explore is the only one which does this.
--No selected type icon displays small next to mods on pick players screen
-Eh?
Where you select the player faction, it displays a big symbol and the modifications from the faction, the none selected icon displays small, and it doesn't look very good with all the empty space.
--Unable to build mech error is not complete (it ends with You are lacking ________), where the ____ is empty. Text may be off a little.
-Bonkers. I'll have a look into this, you may need to provide a screenshot for me. Added to bug list.
I will provide the screen shot later, as I am currently busy, and probably shouldn't be posting right now anyways...
Ok, thanks Gaming. :)
Jamie me old bean!
The story is that Sentience is giong the be the hottest selling game ever. I didn't say it would be a plausible story did I? ;)
Can you duplicate any of the errors that Gaming has, esp the resolution ones - I can't get it to happen on any of my machines...
Heres that screenshot:
http://www.vbforums.com/attachment.p...postid=1279492
Thanks Gaming,
I'll take a look at this tonight.
PS - fyi all, I've had the first copy of a building from KingArthur and it's looking pretty good so far.
You'll all be seeing some new graphics in there soon.... ;)
Sure I'll have a go and see what I can come up with.
Did you see this post of mine Arbitor?Quote:

Plend,

Gaming,
I've found and fixed the error you provided the screenshot for and also the no seleted icon on the choose players screen, though that looks hideous at the moment.
I did see that other post and I'm looking into it. Get back to you shortly, I have to dig it out from the code and the code's a mess.... :D
Oh Gaming,
Please send me an eMail with the address you want the bits of code sending to.
The code's horrible, but it works and it contains the info you'd need to format the squares. With a bit of tinkering it could be made to work on a single square, rather than the whole map.
OK. I'll let you know if I have any other questions. As for the address, its [email protected]. Also, for it to be easier for me to find the e-mail, leave the subject blank (otherwise I might delete it).
I'll mail you this evening.
And why, prey tell, do you have an eMail account called sentience.games that's so busy that an eMail from the guy who actually designed and created the game can get deleted?
It goes to [email protected]. I append other stuff to help me identify the topic. And I get between 20 to 200 e-mails a day, varing on the day of the month. If you would prefer, you could also send it to [email protected] or any other variation of [email protected] or [email protected]. And, incase you haven't figured it out yet, I have a domain name. Also, if I need enough info from you I may just create a seperate folder and move the address to it.
As for the editor, I will begin work on the editor this afternoon. (around 4 PM PDT/0:00 GMT)
Afief, Gaming;
You both have an eMail from me. :)
Scanning though the code, it looks like I will also need the code to load the graphics, and the custom type named StdResTemp. Also, is the map array of type maptemp, and of what type is mapx and mapy? I would presume that mapx and mapy are either intergers or longs. I also need xMap, yMap, PrevVal, and MapGraphics information.
