Gather round and hear my tale of woe.....
It all started yesterday afternoon. It was a lovely sunny afternoon (20 degrees C), the flowers were blooming, the birds were singing... okay to cut a long story short. I went to the clinic to get the cast cut off my right arm, thinking this is just perfect, I'll get rid of the cast, pick up some wine, soak in the hot-tub in the blazing sunshine and generally have a great time.....
I go to the clinic, and it turns out that this is only a check-up. They'll leave the cast on for another two weeks, remove it, re-xray my arms and possibly put a new cast on. Sh*t.
I head to my parents house. Now, I should point out that we've just bought ourselves a new house but it's not ready yet, so we've left the house we were renting and are staying in my parents house until our new house is ready (3 weeks time). I get in the house, my parents are drenched, a pipe has burst in the basement.
Most of our furniture and stuff is stored in their basement (awaiting the new house). Sh*t. I'm not bothered about electronics etc., I can replace all that but our weding photo's are down there along with all the accounts books of the two companies I own, our immigration papers, exam certificates etc. Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t.
So we spent the evening moving stuff and drying it out. The wedding album survived by nothing short of a miracle (It was at floor level, in a cardboard box, wrapped in plastic in a larger cardboard box. The water had got as far as the outside of the album, but hadn't got into it!!! Phew. Most of our photo's/slides survived. A fair amount of home videos (not that type!!!!!!!!!!) have water pouring out of them, we don't know if they're destroyed or not. The company accounts and articles of association are spread across two bedrooms drying out. There's an entire set of encyclopedias (from 1935) spread out on the deck drying out. Loads of books etc. destroyed. Luckily alot of hte stuff (cutlery, plates, crystal etc.) is inherently water-proof. My Nintendo 64 was dribbling water, I'll let it dry out before switching it on.
To cap it all, after we'd spent the afternoon and evening working on the basement I went to my extensive wine celler (okay 2 bottles of wine in the corner of the room) and selected a bottle I'd bought for a laugh. Vampire wine, product of Transalvania (Now Romania). Yyyyyuuurrrrrkkkk. And I'm being kind here.
So all in all a pretty sh*tty day:(

Ah - I'm pretty philisophical about these things. Nothing irreplacable was destroyed (although I'm a little peeved at the old encyclopedias getting trashed), and nobody was hurt. I've had the cast on for 3 weeks now, so I suppose another 2 aint going to make much difference.Quote:

well it doesn't do it on any other machines that i know of, but it is either NT or our damned proxy server that disconnects every 10 seconds and i do mean this, our technician (or guy with admin password as we call him :p ) doesn't seem to be able to set up a proper NT configuration with a proxy server to save his life, he is a prat and no one likes him at allQuote:
