The mac folks are pulling away from us (Pos 38, we're at 45). Doh!
Time to go over and pee in their petrol tank!

700, 800? Bah that's nothing! I'm gonna get one running on my Datacenter :)
If you're referring to G4 processor speeds, a G4 867 kicks a 1.4 P4's ass to the moon. That's because PowerPC processors process more data in a CPU cycle than Intel chips do, especially the P4...Quote:

Intel is realizing that since they are a well known name all they have to do is stick a big megahertz number on a crappy chip and people will buy it...the stupid people that is. In most situations, AMD beats Intel, but Motorola and IBM (makers of PowerPC chips) beat AMD.
I am not a Mac owner but no be dissin mac!:)
*cough* Actually my ZX-80 kicks a 1.4gig P4's ass. It's the suckiest processor to have ever been released. (Is suckiest a word... if not, then it should be!)Quote:

The P4's are as slow as an exhausted tortoise trying to run through treacle......

SurfDemon...you are so right....
My 4004 really whoops some major P4 ass...0.8Mhz, now THAT Is power. and it's got 1K of RAM. That is one kickass machine, it grinds up this genome@home and Adobe Photoshop like it's the Windows Notepad :D :D :D
I used the P4 as an example to show that just because it has more mhz that it isn't necessarily faster than a processor with less mhzQuote:

if ya read my mini rant about Intel then you'd see what I mean :)
Is it fair for me to use both of my P4 1GHZ, my P2 250MHZ, and my P2 350MHZ? All of them but the 350 are on 24/7 :). Not to menation the comps I can get at work. :p Can any1 beat that?
maybe! what´s about up to 15 Celeron 333??
STRIKE!!!
Any questions... :D :D :D :D
come on people there has to be someway to get this @#$% program to work through a proxy. I have 10+ P4 1GHZ i can get crunching if i can get around the damn proxy problem...John?
This isnt working people. We have to get more people involced in this. I say we post threads about this on every forum!! It'll annoy the hell out of people like Filburt but well get ahead. The first place team has roughly 4X the number of people we have.
btw, why do i see teams like France, and Singapore? If those official national teams then were screwed. Singapore has the highest number of computers per capita on earth...
i have a 33mhz ;(
HAHA :p
I think it's working quite well, actually :)
To whoever complained about proxies - does it support NAT? You need that since it makes a DIRECT connection to the server, rather than checking some kind of proxy which I think only web browsers bother to do.
If I install ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on this machine, which has AnalogX Proxy running now, will it work? I know that my friend can use ICS to play games on Microsoft's Gaming Zone, and that need a direct connection to the server. Proxy doesn't work because it doesn't make a direct connection to the server.
Small talk I tell you, it’s all small talk! I have a 3MHz Z80 chip, which was originally inside the Frogger Arcade Machine game! BEAT THAT! :D
Alright, count me in too.
I just added my 733Mhz and 166Mhz.
Nothing next to your 5Ghz combos but I hope it will help.
:D
Been running for 20 mins now and only 30% of the first one
:( ....
Alright... 30 mins - 50%...
OK. We don't need status reports...
...yes we do
In what place are we BTW?
http://gah.stanford.edu/teamstats.html
We're 42 :) Hmm...I recognise that number :p
Your age?:p
:p Nah, I'm at least 50 weeks old :D
Hey this isn't a sticky anymore!
He He i have hit the Half century (of Genes) :D :D , going for the top 5 position[currently 12th]. John, u better watch out i am coming for u !! Only 316 genes to go and then i will catch up !!!
Come on guys we are not moving, still stuck at 42nd, need more ppl and cpu power.
might take long..
hehe

It's really cool that we're at 41 and everything. And no offense to the mac supporter, but the power of Intel has always been quantity over quality. We should overwhelm the Mac Addicts team by shear numbers.
Which reminds me....
I've been seeing all these posts about 10 700Mhz this and 15 800 Mhz this, but I'm not seeing any results!
I'm running about 3 systems and I'm in 6th place on our team!?
Believe me I'm not bragging. I'm just wondering where all these 10 system guys are! Or was that just a ploy to gain favor with the VB World gods? I don't think you win anything for that...
Ok, I'm done ranting. (sorry, bad day at work.)
Hi John? What can I do to help VBForums.com? Please short the words...
Scott - if I bothered I might be able to set up a farm of 400s but I don't think my mum's school would appreciate the electricity bill :p
Tom - read John's first post and follow the instructions, it's clear enough :)
Hey,
We're 39th now! We're right behind the smug Macintosh guys!
It's time to put 'em behind us...
;)
Hmmmmm.... How long do you think it would take to port to a Commodore Pet?
Hmmmmm......
It's about time we pass the Mac Addict team!
We're 39th now!
Anyone still doing this anymore?
I am.
Heh, okay.:D It's just that I turned mine off, and didn't turn it back on. Whatever.
After 2 genes?!
I'm still running mine with 21 genes processed.
I did around 500 before this.
The G@H user stats say you processed 2 genes.
Okay, well, whatever. :)
Whatever. :)
I am still running it, and have 113 genes so far, wont stop until i get to top 3 :D. Who else is running ??
how we doing now and how can i find out?

BTW, nice avatar Adam. :D
Nice one Matt :D

I don't own that P166 anymore so I'm left with only 733Mhz.
BTW, really nice idea Matt.
Chenko...
I went through the entire 5 pages of this thread and added everyone! (It was 3 in the morning and I was bored but not tired. What can I say? )
Sc0rp...
Just stick your name in with the new value and it will update your existing entry. :)
Danial...
Cool. Will do. :)
matthewralston: I added myself to your list with my VBWorld username and not the G@H username so the link is broken, can you remove me from the database so I can add my G@H username?
I am @ 7990 in the all user table at G@H - is this OK?
I currently only run it on my notebook so it really only runs when my notebook is on all night ie when I'm on call.
Can I run the same instance ie - install the same version on other machines, if so I'll put it on the network at home . . . ?
. . . that makes PIII 650 + K7 750 + P233 + dx2 66 + K6 350 + whatever I can get away with at work! = count me in for 1.98 Ghz at least
Sc0rp...
Just put your old name in again and set processing power to 0. That'll delete it.
I added the correct u\n.
But 'Sc0rp' still appears there for some reason.
It's gone. :)
You needed to type "Sc0rp" into the Username box and "0" into Processing Power box.
Hey I guess we're falling behind the Mac guys again...
Are we slacking off? I better make sure the guys I work with didn't take the app off their systems :D
I gotta stay in number 3!! It's getting kinda crowded up there.
BTW cool site Matt
Me is gonna catch ya !!! only 3 place behind, catching up fast !!!Quote:
