The ad's are lame, I agree with that. But a necessary evil. I've gotten a ton of help here and will continue to seek it when needed. Honestly, I've opened an ad thread one time, when they first appeared, saw it was an ad, and moved on. At least we don't get bombarded by pop-ups at this site. I can live with the ads. I just scroll below them, and refresh the page every so often, rarely even see the ads. Not to mention I would never buy jack squat by clicking on an annoying internet ad, so let them spend their money, who cares. Soon enough, the entire internet is going to be one giant ad anyway. Enjoy it while you can.

In a away I agree but I have to say i'm surprised it lasted as long as it did before the ads came. As said earlier all you have to do is scroll down slightly and the ad is gone, as for the fake thread I really didn't like that but once you've done it once you just know to leave the first thread alone in EVERY section.
If you need to make some money for Jupitermedia then why not turn vbforums into an 'open invite software house' :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :D.

I'm glad I use NOrton Internet Security. It gets rid of ALL ADS banner ads, pop-ups or anything. Even though Opera already gets rid of pop-ups this, just adds another level so I never even see the ads you people are talking about.
That being said, it sounds to me like someone is over-paying for this forum to be run. It doesn't require a dedicated server or anything. Judging from the frequency of posts, I'd say it uses MAYBE 30GB of bandwidth a month. Hell I could get that much for like $100 a year.

Either way, if they did stop advertising on this forum, and they DID shut it down, It would be retarded of them. Hell if that happened, when the domain would expire, I'd grab it and put new forums up FOR FREE

Members of the administration have already stated that the ads on these forums are not pay-by-click but pay-by-display.
I'm sure this doesn't hold true for the "thread ads", though.
So no one clicking the others will have no effect on on revenue.
The admins have also stated that Queue magazine was pleased enough with the results of the thread ad that they opted to keep them there.
So I wouldn't hold your prayers for the demise of JM's vbForums to closely. ;)
I don't think you're aware of quite how large and busy this forum actually is. There are a huge amount of post and threads created and edited minute by minute, second by second. Every reply to a thread causes n different topic reply notifications to be sent to anyone subscribed to that forum, every private message or email sent requires more outbound traffic.Quote:

Add to that the enormous traffic from non-members searching for solutions to problems and going through threads page by page looking for code.
So add all of the above bandwidth, to the existing bandwidth of the large number of forums JupiterMedia already run. That's a huge amount of bandwidth to pay for.
This is a very busy site - and the administration and moderation teams are kept very busy too.
