Ok, heres the screen shot...
LOL!!!
It's the same resolution. There's no bug - there's only two lines of technologies (out of the five).
We were in the process of redesigning the tech tree when we posted that version, so only 40% of the techs are there. There should be another 3 sections of techs but they weren't in the scripts at that time.
I should have mentioned it when I posted the new version. My fault.
The next version I'm going to upload has the tech tree in all its glory on there.
I should have noticed that when I placed it into photoshop.
And, due to your disgin, when you get the techs into the scripts, just upload the script, so that noone else posts that bug...
I'm bored, so I just diecided to make another post...
I've changed the way the research script works, so a new sencore is also needed.
A new version will be uploaded shortly with the bug fixes in. :)
Gaming,
I've fixed the problem you were having with the particle engine, and I'm now going to remove the 'o' and 'p' trigger keys (as they were only there to demo it).
I've also fixed the problem with the tutorial screen constantly appearing. I know that was bugging you... ;)
I've not yet sorted the RMV slurp screen, but that should be soon. Ideally I'll have a new version up in the next day or two.
Ok all, I've uploaded the latest version... :)
It's got some more funky things in it (check out the new research screen - looks best at higher res') and there've been quite a few bug fixes.
If you could try and hack it to bits an let me know of any more bugs I'd be more than grateful.
I've left in the particle engine tests (press 'o' or 'p' to see what I mean) but please don't report any bugs with these. If the bugs occur when firing from a units right click menu then please report it.
Thanks guys!
What a usefull post, so this is how you get a higher postcount ;)Quote:

I will download the new version in a little bit.
That is only around the second time I posted a useless post (a side from around 5 in the chit-chat forumal, and not including this one).Quote:

Here are four bugs:
1) You can never create a new mech. (It says it never has armor)
2) You can change the ettings (map size, ect), after the map has started being created (causing very nasty side-effects).
3) The screen resoultions don't change properly (the main screen was at 1280x1024; I will attempt to recreate).
4) View the screen shot.
I tend to sleep less than the average person and I have really bizarre sleeping patterns.Quote:

And even when I'm asleep, I'm working on Sentience...
Thanks for those Gaming.Quote:

1) In the box underneath the armour, you need to type in a number (it's amount of armour). If you leave it at 0 it will cry. We're going to make this a bit more user friendly in the future (along with the ammo allocation).
2) Now that's a well found bug! Nice one - I'll get that sorted.
3) Not sure I know what you mean. Things like this are normally caused by freak occurrances of things on the system (esp if there are things running in the background).
4) Oh yeah! This screen is still work in progress and has been for months. I'd totally forgot about it. It's not a bug, it's just not finished...
PS - is everyone getting the mini walkthroughs of the pick player and map maker screens?
I realise there's some typos in them, but it was late when I was writing them and I forget to check them after.
I got them, then imeditry shut them down (as I would do on nearly any ).
As for the screen resolution not changing, I will attempt to recreate it. It may be a while though, as we are going camping (around thursday I'll be back). I think it has to do with clicking off the splash screen (as the 800x600 screens didn't change, but the main creen did).
I got all of those errors, plus: after Year 250, i get error 9Quote:

Turn 250?
What on earth were you doing to be playing that long?
I'll have a look at that and see if I can duplicate it...
Thanks!
This may sound stupid, but where can i get the demo from??
www.gibbonbash.fsnet.co.uk/gamedev.exe
or follow the banner in Arbiter's or my signature.
sql_lall,
As per Behemoth, simply click the image in our sigs. The file you want is "gamedev.exe" (a self extracting archive).
Thanks for taking an interest, I'll look forward to hearing your comments. :)

I was going that long because I was almost done getting to 'Sentinence' in the Research thing.
And, you have a lot of other little annoying but not too bad bugs.
By The Way, Arbiter, is your location Manchester, Vermont ??
Manchester, the skanger-HQ of europe ;)Quote:

Please post the annoying bugs as well - as many as you can.Quote:

By ironing out the little things it helps to provide a better playing experience overall.
Thanks!
PS - Press the '@' key (SHIFT + Apostrophe) to see the debug menu. It might help you with stuff... ;)
I'm afraid Sentience isn't going to be available on the xbox for quite some time yet...Quote:

And Plend, it's not in Ireland so I'm sure Dublin still holds the crown of Europes scally pit. :)
250 turns to reach Sentience? cool!
The amounts on techs may need rejigging, but chances are he didn't have an army to support, special projects running and a small farm of buildings...
just as I was thinking. these are things that need to be put in soon to make the experience more realistic.
If I look at scripts any more my head is going to blow up. I've rewritten three today (torso, chassis and reactor) - I never thought it would be this much work.
Once we've written the scripts with sensible values, you and I will have a game to iron out which mechs are stupidly powerful etc and then we'll open them up to all our loving fans.
one word: yay!
More than 250....thats the problem.....you cant go past 250Quote:

Yes: After 250 I can't go anymore.Quote:

Long time no play, it looks quite good now, but here's my intial list of things:
Code:1. CPU: 100% all the time - fix it
2. 1600x1200 option, is absolutely nessesary!
2. Component list only shows topmost item
3. Still: Scrollbars and some of the buttons look grey and ugly (how many times have i told you :p;))
4. I don't want to scroll the map using the scrollbars, I want to scroll it with the mouse
5. popuping some kind of info when you mouseover those freaky creatures that appears at times would be in place
6. It complains about unit having no armour, I have put a dummy4 on it.
Keddy! not seen you in here for a looong time...
ok.
1. CPU: 100% all the time - fix it
2. 1600x1200 option, is absolutely nessesary!
to whom?! :p
2. Component list only shows topmost item
3. Still: Scrollbars and some of the buttons look grey and ugly (how many times have i told you )
its on the list but a low priority
4. I don't want to scroll the map using the scrollbars, I want to scroll it with the mouse
explain further - what do you mean 'with the mouse'? in the minimap??
5. popuping some kind of info when you mouseover those freaky creatures that appears at times would be in place
tooltips for wandering monsters? its an idea certainly
6. It complains about unit having no armour, I have put a dummy4 on it.
well, for me at least :p to extend with one more option for 1600x1200 users shouldn't be hard.
Either scrolling by moving the mouse to the edges, or by dragging the right button on the map would do.
we wouldnt be able to test 1600*1200 because neither of us has a monitor capable of that res...
well, just fix it, and i'll try it out.
btw, it failed to return to my original screen resolution, i remember it did before.

Nope. You shouldn't be running anything else so it doesn't matter
2. 1600x1200 option, is absolutely nessesary!
Alright, alright, I'll add it

You probably hadn't discovered any more techs so no more were available. That screen is work in progress anyway
3. Still: Scrollbars and some of the buttons look grey and ugly (how many times have i told you :p;))
I know - we're working on it
4. I don't want to scroll the map using the scrollbars, I want to scroll it with the mouse

More info will be available on them soon

but you didn't give it a value underneath
Can't scroll with right click - it's used for context stuff. Third mouse button maybe?Quote:

Edge of screen scrolling has been tried but doesn't seem right as the viewable area is nowhere near the size of the screen.
Had you closed the launcher?Quote:

Did the game crash?

But what on earth is it doing while I'm choosing faction and browsing stuff? At least put some sleep calls in the loops!
Alright, alright, I'll add it
Thanks, I'll have another look at Sentience when this is implemented :D

Yeah noticed, I meant that the lower two of the currently shown in the list weren't shown.
How exactly?
Well either of those two I was trying to explain to Behemoth
Well kinda hard, why not make context popup on doubleclick and scroll the view with right?Quote:

Yes

No, at least no errors messages
It's more common for right click to be context.
I'm sticking with tradition UI methods so most people are happy.

Yes: error 9 whatever that is then exits the game.
I will send the text in the message, maybe tommorow.
thank you. it might speed things up if you PM Arbiter with a link to your post too...
I'm always monitoring this thread anyway. It would be interesting to see this error message, I'll have to see if I can duplicate it.
Will there ever be a demo version, 'cos currently it is too big for me to be patient enough to download it.
in that case you wont be patient enough to play it either :)
well get the full version right now before you have to pay for it in a couple of month...
Now it does it at 150, too.
It says:
Run-Time Error '9':
Subscript out Of Range.
And also: when I load a game, every time it says it will not load it because it is from an old version, but it is not, but then it loads anyway.
It's only 4.5 mb!Quote:

It doesn't take long to download even on a 56k modem.
And this is the demo version! With all the speech and uncompressed graphics the game would be huge. It expands to about 30mb after you download it.
And as Misanthrop says, if you're too impatient to wait for 4mb to download then you're not going to want to play a turn based strategy.
Oh, and Misanthrop, have you downloaded it recently - and if so, do you have any comments?
This is to kedaman, and anyone else who complains about the processer usage:
99.999% of use 95 to 100% of the processer usage (yes, even on a 1GHZ comp)
Therefore, this is one of the majority. This is how can get 72 FPS.
The reason it has such a high processor usage is that there is no framerate cap. It will redraw the screen as fast as it can, as many times as it can - it's as simple as that.
This is to Gaming, and anyone else who complains about processor usage:
SO WHAT?!?
I've repeatedly said that nothing else should be running anyway so the only other thing the processor is going to be doing is idling.
well why don't you put in a fps limit? I really think it would help and it would make the game seem to run faster and more stable, since alt+tab would work faster and stuff...
and with the idling thing:
I normally use winamp when I play games especially if they are games that take a little longer time like turnbased strategy!!
and the processor idling is much better than the processors wasting time. A modern processor uses way less power when idling!
