Then how come it stopped saying that as soon as I upgraded.
Gaming,
You've completely lost me.
What's the question you're asking?
When I got a pod, no message showed up. Therefore, I figured you must have made the pods do something. But it must just be that you have the message turned off by defult.
Super-furry bug-list :
I though I'd let you contend with these before proceeding with more :)Code:Updating core files takes a long time

When you click on the minimap it does nothing
But nothing then happens when you click on units or buildings

being updated, but the main screen graphics are not.
Energy keeps going up though I'm doing ****all to try and make it ...
Right clicked on building in top-left of my base, clicked "relocate building"
but it would not move. Then hit 5 on numberic keypad and a black square
appeared where teh building was, the black selection box moved to top left
of the main game screen, and the smal green box in minimap moved to very
top-left corner of minimap, even though we were not actually in top left
hand corner of minimap.
Right clicked on a building another time, tried to relocate, and then hit 5.
Building moved diagnolly up and left one square.
If you right click on a a building, while the right click menu for another building

remember correctly this was an OK description :)
When you click on the minimap and nothing happens, if a building was selected,
it now disappears and is replaced by the fog-of-war

When you do go back, all you've got is some fog-of-war
When other player then quits, they get the "Winner! No other players exist" message
When loading the game while music is playing, uncaught division by zero RTE thrown
Plend,
Cheers chopper. I'll look into these and reply back shortly.
Gaming,
You might not have copied the new options.ini into the scripts folder. There's one in the update.zip - copy that into the scripts directory, overwriting the old one. :)
I 0wnz
Ah. So that was the problem. Now, why didn't the update file unzip properly? It placed all the files in the GameDev folder (where I told it to unzip)
Plend,
Responses as below...
------------------------
Updating core files takes a long time
*It can do. It only ever does it once and that's to speed up subsequent loading.
plenderj (Lead Tester) should read plenderj (Lead Pimp)
*Silly me
When loading an empty saved game, game gives an uncaught division by zero error RTE
*does it? I'll look into that
Doesnt put resolution back after crash
*I'm considering making a Sentience loader to detect if the game has crashed and reset the screen res
Options -> Game/Alerts/Misc doesnt do anything
*They will in time
Game UI *seems* slower
*Odd. I hadn't noticed that. You're weren't high on speed were you?
Generate a new whopping map takes ages
*It's a whopping map, what do you expect? Interesting thing I've noticed - If the screen res is already at 800*600 when you run the game, generating the maps is quicker. See if you can get the same effect on yours. - it's completely weird. Any ideas?
"Currently" mispelt on tutorial screen
*Whoops.
tutorial stuff looks very very cool
*Thankyou
update between things in tutorial is slow and can see half-drawn stuff
*I don't get that. Weird. I'll put in a blind fix for next time.
When you get a pod, in tutorial 'mode', a few "__"'s in the description
*That's down to the new way the messages are displayed in Sentience. I'll sort that.
When you click on the minimap it does nothing
But nothing then happens when you click on units or buildings
in the main game area. So it looks as though the co-ords are
being updated, but the main screen graphics are not.
*Bonkers. The update is linked to the co-ords though so as soon as they change, so does the map. I'll see if I can duplicate that.
Energy keeps going up though I'm doing ****all to try and make it ...
*The admin contains a small powerplant to start you on your way. When you start producing additional mechs etc then the little power plant in there becomes inadequate.
*Madness. I've never had that. Sounds like it was centring you to some unknown unit with co-ords 0,0. Can't think what would cause it. I'll look into it.
Right clicked on a building another time, tried to relocate, and then hit 5.
Building moved diagnolly up and left one square.
*What is going on? What have you done to my game?
If you right click on a a building, while the right click menu for another building
is open, it ****s up the menu. I can't remember how exactly now, but if I
remember correctly this was an OK description
*I think if you right click somewhere else when you have a menu open, it doesn't select the other building/unit you clicked on, just moves the menu. I'll change this.
When you click on the minimap and nothing happens, if a building was selected,
it now disappears and is replaced by the fog-of-war
**** is happening? We never had these problems before...
I've said this a few times now, but the "Are you sure ???" screen looks gay
*You only said it looks gay. You didn't say you didn't like it.... ;)
Each building should have its own vehicle picture
*Behemoth would love that.
When you right click on a menu, there are no animations
*That's right. They're paused while the menu is active. Shouldn't they be?
After you self destruct the HQ, red square still around it + game should be over...
(I was playing 2 human players against one another)
*Most of the win scenarios aren't built in properly yet. If you 'next turn' it should pick up the fact that the admin is missing.
After you self destruct the last unit, the game does not end
*As above
After you hit turn complete, and then go back to your own player, the game
is still going. It should probably end seeing as you're dead 'n all
*Hummm. Odd.
When you do go back, all you've got is some fog-of-war
*Ah
When other player then quits, they get the "Winner! No other players exist" message
*Oh, looks like I'm not checking the win scenarios properly.
When loading the game while music is playing, uncaught division by zero RTE thrown
*Really, I don't get that on mine. It just plays both (on WinXP). There is a trap there because when I had Win98 it wouldn't play the sounds simultaneously and threw up a SenMsg saying that sound would be disabled in game.
Plend you rancid mongoose testicle!
Have you nothing to say about my comments above?
no just cchek ur\email
Ok, i'm finally back (i think).
Arb :
sorry, kinda blew up my motherboard while installing a new tv card, the only prob is the d*rn thing still doesn't work right...
(plend, NOT A WORD)
Will download the update asap.
Ok, arb, here a very short list :
1. Let someone make a 'Accept' button.... ;)
2. In the help section of the game, after that beautiful screen where you can choose to ask for help (looks good !!) maybe instead of a accept button a ok button...
3. What should i make of this ?
go to Hq stats, in the new 'screen' you get there are the faction stats, but the bottom 2 stats read :
if i'm correct that should be something else...Code:
Energy : Energy
Energy : Energy
BTW : you maybe want to include a learning scenario too
Icheb
Icheb me old mucker!
I thought you were dead!
Oh well - I'll address your points here...
1) Behemoth's doing it
2) Not sure what you mean
3) They're only there so I could add some more stats...
4) What about that little tutorial you get? That will be expanded on of course - is that what you mean?
Ok, that was another party for nothing :S (or not)Quote:

Neh, just blew up my motherboard...
But that doesn't say i'm still alive.
I've been dead for hundreds of years.
1) U sure he will ever do it ?
2) in the tutorial, after that cancel (read : 'accept') button there is another screen, maybe there make it a 'ok' button instead of a 'accept' button...
3) so if they're not used you'll delete them later ?
4) I still don't get the game (maybe it's me), but normally i DO understand the games i try after a few turns, so that's why i asked for a tutorial scenario, not only a explination but also a level to play to make you understand the game.
5) Just curious, *** does sentience do when it says it's updating the core files ? (after doing an update)
Icheb
Icheb,
1) He's already done it. ;)
2) riiight
3) Yep
4) The tutorial will make all clear as it gets bigger
5) It's updating the core files
ok, i like this way of posting, it's good to see everything now...Quote:

2) So you understand it now ? (or do i need to include screenshots ? (, it must be my english))
5) Yes, but what the h*ll is there to update ?
Sentience is a .exe file, a number of .ini's, a number of sounds and a number of .bmp's...
So can you tell me, what files does he update (yes, i'm just very curious about how and why this is done).
Icheb
Didn't want to edit my last post AGAIN, so i posted again :
Arb : Congrats with your 900th post !!
900 posts?
I never realised. Wonder how many have actually been of use..?
Anyway,
2) I've no idea what you're on about Icheb, sorry. I'll be making changes to the tutorial section, so you can either wait and see what I do and if it matches your comment, or if you want to show me what you mean via screenshots, then that's also cool.
5) Ok. People were complaining that Sentience took too long to run every time so I looked at ways of improving this. I realised that the thing that was taking the most amount of time was the creation of the masks used for transparent blitting. It was doing this every time it loaded and it took ages.
Now, Sentience comes with the files without masks (for a small download) and then the first time it's run it checks to see if the graphics have masks (well, it doesn't but that's the net result) and if they don't then it creates the masks and resaves the graphics.
This means that when Sentience runs normally, it doesn't have to create blit masks.
It's a good way of getting both small dowload size and quick loading, at the trade off of one internal update. Neat huh?
Arb:
I have 103 posts now, maybe 10 or 20 of them were usefull...
If you delete this thread it'll go down by 75 :D
i'll try to see if i can post a modified screenshot tonight (my time)
Ok, so that's what the updateing does...
Icheb
Icheb,
If you delete this thread and the one on the comms forum, my posts will plummet to about 50. :D
But all of those will have been useful to others...
*bump*
can't let Sentience fall off the first page, can we?

Ohhh thats a clever move for the masks thing.
Very very cool man. Very cool :)
What?
I've done something that you haven't done better in Craft?
Ye Gods! ;) :)
Nah with craft I just have the raw bitmaps.
Oooo that reminds me. The error checking for user created levels in Craft is sexy :)
plend, I have been wondering why you haven't used masks in craft (sience I d/led it about 2 weeks ago). It only took me about 2 mins to make the masks (with a program I wrote) and another 3 to apply them. Although, the tie graphic does have a few holes in it which slowed me down.
arb, I can test the 800x600 res on another michean later. After school.
I can even do a side-by-side comparision of the speed at a start of 800x600, and of 1280x1024.
Pfft to be honest I've never worked with masks before.Quote:

But hey if you make some big modification to Craft and want me to upload it to my site by all means send me a list of changes and I will :)
That would be brilliant gaming - thanks.Quote:

Did you create the masks for Craft yourself in an art package? Sentience generates the masks itself using a really simple colour comparison loop. It does take a few seconds to do though (which is what took the time at the loading).

Stop shirking work. Or at least buy him a beer for his efforts...
Uhn. I suppose I'm not doing much right now...
I used a simple program I created. The reason it took so long was that: 1) it was a meduim size file, and 2) the graphics for the ships had some holes I ended up having to fix in photoshop (5.5 yuk)
The results from my tests:
That is it for now:).Code:1) It runs slower if the starting resolution is larger then 800x600, but there is no noticable differnt between 1024x768 and 1280x1024.*
2) If you have a player selected, but no modify selected for that player, an unhandled divide by 0 runtime results.
3) If there is no player selected, an unhandled divide by 0 runtime results.
4) Modifier Conquest stopped printing resources as just reso, it is on the 3rd paragraph, 2 line (8th line total).
5) Invaild game name results in an unhandled divide by 0 runtime.**
6) If you goto docs, then goto a subtopic, there is no way to go back, except to close docs, and reopen it.
7) The "Are You Sure" Screen looks gay (I know plend has said this many times)
*One of the two test computers kept locking up, I will attempt to retest this later
** On one of the two test machines, I kept getting a type mismatch after testing this during start up, on the other comp it works fine.
A few more:
Code:1) The main map only redraws if the selected mech/building will be on the screen. Basicly, if the currently selected mech/building is a 10/10, the main screen only will move if the screen will have the 10/10 tile on it.
2) You should have some type of nutrul cities, possibly heavily damaged. Such as in Tiberium Sun.
wow all have to say is this game is great
Arb:
I promesed you a Screenshot a while ago, here it is, the info about it is on the shot itself.

Thanks for this Gaming,
1) As I thought. No idea what causes that though. Bonkers...
2/3/5) Gaming, there should be no unhandled divide by 0's. Could you take a print of this please?
4) Yep. I'm looking into that.
6) It uses the explorer control to display the documents (which are HTML files. I'll put a link into the file. You could press the backspace key in the meantime...
7) Right, alright, yeesh. I'll do something about it.
