No probs. It's a neat idea though....
You could also use it as a science to increase production so that building stuff takes a little less time, or so you gain more resources from the land from the RMVs.
I think as per Gaming, it should be a wotsit that improves RMV production.
Maybe an aug or something?

assault rifle: too dark, needs to stand out more - maybe a lighter shade of blue?
autocannon: as above
explosives: bottom segement is too dark, maybe lighten it or change the colour?
gauss rifle: maybe a lighter red - again, too dark
Laser: same old problem - it might be because your putting black borders around the individual sections of the gun - maybe use grey or something?
Maser: black borders make it seem dark - colour the borders a different colour?
Mass driver: Same
Phase Disrupter: Same....
Plasma rifle: Not too bad, but again I think it needs the borders/joins changing colour
Rocket laucher: Same old too dark thing...

Also, I like the idea of the cutter being close range. we could do with some more close range weaponry, and also how do we dissuade players from using ranged weaponry at close range?
I'm not sure that we should.
We could maybe apply a penalty if the weapon is fired at a 1 square range, but bear in mind that's still a few miles.
'close range' to use is something that doesn't travel for miles - not necessarily hand to hand.

It's going to take hours getting Sentience working again after what I did the graphics directory. I'm beginning to regret it already. :(

Fret not, they're a low priority for the mo.
For the time being, you can do some of those weapons, some more random components (recoil stabiliser would be nice) and tidy the torso chassis images for the mech design screen.
Tip:
When you tidy the image and copy it into the graphics folder, you'll need to copy it in without a mask, so Sentience will regenerate it. Using the old mask will NOT work.

1) I wasnt testing so I'm not gonna hit it on the head...
I started a game and filled the build queue so I could see loads of stuff in the mech des scrn. I hit enter to finish the go and again to start the next one. I kept hitting enter without paying much attention, an suddenly realised I had been ejected back to the desktop. I repeated all steps again and the same happened

Where did it boot you?
When you pressed enter? When the next player screen appeared?
If you can narrow it down, I can look at fixing it...
I think it was pn pressing enter, but like I say I wasnt in a debugging frame of mind, so I was only paying cursory asttention

Right, I've added in the visibility thing, but I need to test it a bit yet.
I've also added in the first section of the mech quick build (it builds a mech if you have a torso, reactor, half ton of armour and a chassis to put it on - if not, it tells you what's missing). It also adds augs.
It's going to work so that it doesn't put the same component on twice (so you don't get three sensor chips just because they're the highest might thing you have). You also will get a mix of weapons.
Otherwise, all the mechs would look the same.
Later on today, I'll add in the weapons, ammo etc and tidy it up a bit. I'm feeling very productive today so I want to get a lot done. :)
Oh and do you fancy popping round for a bit this evening before the quiz?
And Heroes IV just crashed on my when I attacked a wolf rider... :rolleyes:

HOMAM4 doesnt work multiplayer does it...I think i prefer 3 anyway. 4 is suppose to have a number of stability issues :rolleyes:

It supports hot seat though, which is all we need....

As discussed, I've put in the ones that are in the scripts.
I also have a little folder of unused graphics that you've done which can be added when new components are added to the scripts.
If it will help you, concentrate on knocking up some more 50x50 component images. It might help the imagination as they're small, one shot images that don't need animating but get the creative juices flowing. It will also allow us to pad the scripts a little more... :)

I had an idea, but its a bit complex...A sensor suite including radar, sonar, visual colour and movement, sound, heat, seismographic vibration and air pressure, that provided an incredible boost to view radius and accuracy at a cost of energy (perhap processing) and speed. it would have to travel much slower to take vibration readings for example...
Easily done. In fact the hardest part was probably typing the description.
Each aug has benefits (which can also be negative) so this one would simply be:
v050 (50% increase in visibility)
a030 (30% increase in accuracy)
p-20 (20% decrease in processing)
s-25 (25% decrease in speed)

Oh, and also I might have a massive request for buttons that you've already done as some of them are built into the game and I want them loaded from file (to make Sentience 'skinnable' as it were).
I don't know if you've kept all your old buttons but it doesn't seem to take you long to make them anyway. I'll get back to you with more info shortly.

Saturday I'm pretty free, but I don't want to make a big evening of it. I was thinking of going for a swim :)

I've been streamlining my code and realised that the quick build mech code is very similar to some existing code that the computer AI uses to automatically build its mech.
The quick build code is actually better, so I've cut a big chunk out from the AI and now use the quick build code. Chopped about 200 redundant lines out. Mint!
I'm on the hunt for sounds now.
What are we doing for ambient sounds?
Heroes has a sound play for the buildings that are visible on screen, but some of these do your head in after a while and you can't turn them off.
What are we doing (if anything)?
I'm collecting some generic gun/explosion sounds and some ambient stuff. I'll send the zip across when I next see you online.
I'm going through all the forms now removing all the hard coded buttons so I'll post a list of buttons when I'm done for you to send me.
These would take priority over anything else as Sentience won't run until you get them to me.
PS - I'm also comparing the list against stuff that I can find on my machine, so I'm only asking you for stuff that I can't find.
Some of these you've already done but as I'd hard coded them into the game I didn't keep the bmps. I'm hoping you've still got them, should save you some work... :)

A plus side to this is that it's shaved 500k off the size of the executable (down to 1.7 mb now).
A minus side is that it's likely to crash a bit more for a while until I resolve any naming issues.

I would say to have the buildings have sounds, but have it so that they can be turned off. You may also which to have sounds which play when you click on a building, and possibly mechs too.
There are sounds when you click on a buildings, and also speech for when you click on a building. These can be turned off under the options screen.
It would be difficult to have sounds that play when you click on a mech as each mech is constructed differently. It might also get a little irritating as you'll probably have quite a few mechs.
PS - Behemoth, the above buttons... I only need the on states for them, don't worry about the off states... :)
