Can you describe and rate it a bit for me. Just saves me trouncing through this War & Peace type thread?

He's not officially on the team, but his contributions have been very valuable. Vulturian Razor Bats aside ( ) his super furry bug reports have been extremely useful in stabilising Sentience.
That's why he's marked as Lead Tester in the credits.
There have been a number of other good contributers, those who have really helped have been added to the credits. Those who have helped, but not enough to get in the credits, may find their names appearing in the game here and there...
It's a turn based strategy game. Similar to Alpha C, but still very different.Quote:

A (brief) overview of the features:
* Extremely flexible mech design, mechs can be custom built from the following components leading to billions of combinations
-----Chassis
-----Torso
-----Reactor
-----Armour
-----Shields
-----Weapons
-----Ammo
-----Augmentations
-----(Currently only land mechs can be built, but sea and air are on the way soon)
* Whoop peoples arse with massive war mechs
* Research new technology
* 16v Engine
* Build advanced special projects (everything from Spy Satellites to a colony wide shield grid)
* Advanced diplomacy where enemy have moods, complexes and opinions (not yet fully active)
* Native lifeforms to capture, kill, study and eventually engineer
* Anti-lock Braking System
* Infiltration of other factions - steal power, capture techs and plant virusssesses (not yet active)
* Fully customisable random map generator. Generate a new world each time you play
* Play by eMail (active) or LAN (inactive)
*And everything is customisable via a scripting engine. If someone had the time, you could replace the scripts and graphics and have a turn based medieval strategy! Now how's that for cunning!
Thanks Icheb. But if you keep on waiting then eventually it'll be finished and you won't have seen the game grow and take shape.Quote:

Also, the more people test and try each version, the more chance we have of ironing problems out before the game is finished. ;)
ok, u are right on that one... ;)Quote:

And the longer till the next version comes out...
I tried the game, but I cant move the units, and when I Create a building I dont really see any building being created, or see any outcome no matter how long I wait. Maybe I just need some instructions and I would love to have them!
-Nack
Nack,
Thanks for trying the game.
The tutorial tells you how to move a unit (use the numeric keypad), and to build a building you do it in two stages.
From the Build Building screen you pick your building from the left and add it to the build queue (where everything goes waiting to be built). When it's built (might be a turn or two) it will show up on the right, you select it and choose its destination construction yard from the drop down. Then click build.
Next turn it will appear at the destination. :)
Any other comments? Is there anything we can do to improve the game?
Oh yeah something I might mention Ben is that a laptop doesn't normally have a numeric keypad.
So I have to press : Fn, and then the following keys make up the keypad ;
Bit of a pain... just thought I'd mention it :)Code:7 8 9
U I O
J K L
So what do you suggest?
Customisable keys? Would that do it?
C'mon, talk to me Plend....
ello. finally got around to testing your game this weekend. unpacked it all including the latest sencore.exe, in the apps directory etc. ran the thing. i click on run, it makes a beep and just halts. only way to quit is using ctrl+alt+del etc.
I'm running on XP. (ta-daa!)
???
okeydokey.
has it been tested much on XP then?
its being developed on XP... :D
Correct. The development machine is running XP Pro
rollocks, that means i can't blame the OS. :DQuote:

Stop stalling!
Does it now work?
dunno yet. i'm at work.
me boss said "I don't care how long Arbiter and Behemoth took making it, you aint playing games at work!"
git.
ps: the main menu looked pretty.
Heartless git that he is.
No matter, have a play at home then.
The main menu does look nice doesn't it... :)
PS - just out of interest, how old are you?
22, why? :D
Just curious. You said you were at work, that's all....
Did you upload the latest version ?
i downloaded from Arbiters sig about a week or so ago.Quote:

Nope, I've not uploaded the new version yet. Need to do some more work it first.
I've been really busy with sorting out my car and my relationship with girlfriend going all bonkers.
I think it's more likely to be this weekend now.... :(
Darre1, have you had a go yet?
nah, went round me parents last night and had me dinner there, did me weeks washing then played football with me brother.
reality: went round me parents last night had me dinner there that me mam cooked for me, she then swiftly proceeded to do my weeks washing for me and then i ran around a 5-a-side football pitch like a loony.
will try tonight. promise
Cool beans.
*** does that mean?Quote:

Hi
I just downloaded and tried to run the game. I have tried 'options' link and i got an error saying
run time error '339
component mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependenciesnot correcty registered. A file is missing or invalid.
I have replaced the files with update files and i am getting division by zero error.
i have VB 6.0 in my system
Hey, thanks for trying it.
You'll need to get the mscomctl.ocx then - someone else mentioned this a bit back. I don't include these files as most people have them on their machine and I'm trying to keep the download to a reasonable size.
You should be able to get the file from the microsoft website.
PS - Don't apply the update, it's only designed for Behemoth. Use the normal version.
does Behemoth do ALL the graphics then?
they look impressive from what i seen.
what does he use?
Yep, he does all the graphics (apart from the actual screen design, but he draws the buttons and backgrounds).
What does he use? Well, at times it looks like he used an Etch-A-Sketch with his feet, but after passing through stringent quality control (me) they look like he used his hands.
Honestly, I don't know. I think it's Illustrator and Photoshop but you'll have to wait until he replies himself to find out.
You could always make a setup package with InnoSetup that just updates the controls/dlls on the person's computer.
... ya know for people who complain that it didnt work or whatever
Hey Arbiter, I tried the game again and I moved the units this time. I found a little graphical error at the options menu, where the save button is standard design. I also still have trouble placing the buildings after they're constructed, and I don't know anything about the tutorial your talked about.
-Nack
The options menu has been revamped in the version I have - it'll look funky cool in the next release.
Also, I think there's a flaw in the building construction section. Again - it's fixed in the next version.
When you start a new game it should automatically ask you if you want to follow a quick tutorial.
If it's not, could you post your Options.ini up on here for me to look at please?
When you uploaded it, you probably used your version of the INI, which may be messed up in this area. Also, I can never get it to save the fact that I don't what the tutorial to come up every time.
well, i finally had a look at your game, and i'm quite impressed.
very nice graphics in places.
i'm not quite sure how it works totally, but i get the general idea of it - it's a red alert/civilisation type game yes?
oh, and errr, you might wanna rethink the speech sound-effects - "<crackle> ... Warehouse ... <crackle>" :D :D :D
Darre1,
Great. No problems with it then? It's mnre a civilistion type game, you know - turn based strategy wotsit...
Did it reset the resolution properly after completion?
Re the sounds: Yeah, they are crap. But I don't have a sound studio and I lowered the quality to save on the download size (as people were crying about it).
Gaming,
Awight dude, not heard from you in a while...
I found the problem with it not saving that and I think I've fixed it now (when I revamped the options screen).
I really need to tie up the loose end on the next version so I can get it uploaded...
So when will the loose ends be tied up ? ;)Quote:

Eventually we'll replace the sounds with some proper voice actors or something that doesn't sound quite so cheap / crackly / "broad northerner", but for now we've got something in place. Same goes for some of the graphics etc.
Heh yeah, you'll replace 'em with cheap/crackly/paddy voices ;)Quote:

:D
We'll eventually want as many and varied voices as possible to add some flavour to the game.
Indeed. Foreigners welcome...
i can do a great impression of an ewok, if you plan on having any ewoks in yer game?
Maybe there should be a quiet background melodi, I can get a little bored/lonely when i play the game.
-Nack
Music's definitely on the cards for the future, we just wanted some structure to plug everything into. We've got ideas for a complex music engine to ensure the sounds don't get too repetitive, as the games will probably take many hours to play.
Yep.
Music's nice but getting the game working's the most important.
I normally turn the music off in games anyway...
Might I mention that the new version that was supposed to be out for monday, is still not out, and it being now friday ...
Button it parrot face - I've been busy with personal stuff this week.
I've managed to pull off the coup of the century by buying my car off the finance company for £4029 when I owed £6283.
I've got this evening free to get some work done and a bit of time this weekend. I'm still pending graphics from Behemoth....
I can't stand games for more then 10 minutes without music...
Good point (I just now relised that it is friday, after being up for half an hour :)).Quote:

Sorry guys, we just hit a few hiccups each. At least we give you an ETA for the next release instead of keeping you hanging on.
Theres currently enough stuff in for a new release, but some of the loose ends need tidying up.
Watch this space. Not long now...:D
Well, some people asked to see it so I posted it. I needn't have bothered 'cos only you've replied but never mind hey?
With regards to the pods text, that'll be changing. I only whacked in those descriptions as a place holder so it actually said something.
You can also change them in the scripts (check the Arbiters script).
Latest News:
The new tech tree is almost in (without graphics though) - I imagine they'll be coming next time.
The particle engine is in, and monster generation is in. Ok, they don't do a lot - but they're there... :)
The MFD is also working well now, along with the faction might screen. To see this in action start a game with a couple of players and cycle through the MFD screens (by clicking on it). There is a button to toggle between game info and MFD functionality.
ETA FOR RELEASE: Sometime Sunday evening....
 In that post you made it sound like you already posted up a new version, then gave an ETA. You will probably get what I mean if you read the latest news over again.
So which sunday evening is the ETA for? This sunday, next sunday, the sunday after that, 100 sundays in the future?
