For most of the games I have had them off. But I did run into around 7 of them (all in the middle of my base ;))Quote:

Forgot to add that this was in one game.
Hi
I saw those shiny 5 stars and thought Id check it out. So I downloaded the game,
and I get a "division by 0" error when the game starts loading...
any help?
- Factory & Construction yard back to front in tutorial
- selecting options from the game menu (and I discovered later from the main menu) gives an error [ERROR.JPG]
- Set a computer player playing alone. Obviously its gonna crash with a subscript out of range error, but I think it did so in only 33 years (unsure about this one)
- Whopping world maps takes AGES to draw (I went for a bath while I was waiting), but the minimap update is instant - is it worth amending the world map drawing routine for big maps?
- The mountains look dark on the world map (in fact all the graphics look odd. Is the a problem with the colour depth?
- I agree with Gaming_, about a screenshot hotkey (although I've seen it on your to do list now ;) )
- When alt+tab ing out, you cant get back in. I was left with a big picture of a nebula and no way to interact with the program. Perhaps include a hard refresh key combination.
- pressed '5' to centre the map, but this just made the unit tile (was mobile admin) black [UNUSUAL.JPG]
- keep seeing multiple admins in my land (even on one player), are these moster houses without relevant graphics?? [WHATSTHIS.JPG]
- Unit started on a monsterhouse, and was unable to go back after it had stepped off. monster houses are too near start locations
- chip graphics are mixed up under industry screen
- should display mech template name on mech design screen (if available)
- mech graphics in-game are very dark
- self destructed my admin (in mobile mode), but this didn't kill me. was able to advance to the next screen, but do nothing (not even look around the map)
Yep, you've probably not chosen a faction when you pick your players.Quote:

To pick a player on the new game screen, click the cross so it turns into a tick, and the click the box to the right and choose a faction.
Then click continue - if it still occurs then please post a screenshot.
The game should be relatively error free (especially on the earlier stages)...
If you have a problem then post a screenshot (as .jpg) and I'll have a good idea of what caused it and how to get around it...

----Yeah, I'll get that sorted...- selecting options from the game menu (and I discovered later from the main menu) gives an error [ERROR.JPG]
----Error.jpg? Where is this stored? It occuring in both places is down to it being the same screen- Set a computer player playing alone. Obviously its gonna crash with a subscript out of range error, but I think it did so in only 33 years (unsure about this one)
----Known bug- Whopping world maps takes AGES to draw (I went for a bath while I was waiting), but the minimap update is instant - is it worth amending the world map drawing routine for big maps?
----The reason is because it's rescaling the graphics to fit, the minimap is a completely different routine- The mountains look dark on the world map (in fact all the graphics look odd. Is the a problem with the colour depth?
---I think so - not sure what's causing it- When alt+tab ing out, you cant get back in. I was left with a big picture of a nebula and no way to interact with the program. Perhaps include a hard refresh key combination.
----That is a problem, and needs resolving- pressed '5' to centre the map, but this just made the unit tile (was mobile admin) black [UNUSUAL.JPG]
----Screenshot?- keep seeing multiple admins in my land (even on one player), are these moster houses without relevant graphics?? [WHATSTHIS.JPG]
-----Yes they are, pull your finger out and draw the graphics- Unit started on a monsterhouse, and was unable to go back after it had stepped off. monster houses are too near start locations
----Point taken- chip graphics are mixed up under industry screen
----Are they?- should display mech template name on mech design screen (if available)
----It does, check the unit name, top right- mech graphics in-game are very dark
----Odd
Arbiter & Behemoth,
what you guys are doing is pretty cool,
and i think you should come up with a name like capcom or aklaim
did, you know, like a company name, and you guys are like the
presidents and stuff...
and then you'll have coders as employees and you'll make tons
of games, and you'll make millions of dollars and you'll be famous
and ... and... oh sorry, i think i got carried away..
referenced pics (sorry about that)

It's a nice dream. :)
Oh, you forgot to mention that we'd need to employ testers (and lots of them).... ;)
The name we're currently working with is BIAS software, but if anyone can come up with anything else then we'd be more than happy to hear it...
That'll be why then.... ;)Quote:

This can't be too hard to fix.Quote:

no? no? ok, i understand :(
Arb : i got one too, it might be a tricky one though.
Will try to attach a screenshot.
This happens with the enemy base and with my base when using the minimap a few times, the bases stay the same only the (how the h*ll are those things called) bot appears black on the place where he really is, and he appears on the place where he shouldn't be too...
Icheb

Ok then, no problem. Let's take this discussion to comms...Quote:

It should already be fixed - can't see why it's happening. Need to look into it in more detail.Quote:

I had no idea what you were on about Icheb, but I understand the screenshot. What a bonkers error that is!Quote:

I'll have to look into that one - weird.....
from the screenshot, it appears similar to my error...
Icheb: is "naamloos" Dutch for "nameless", ie. "untitled-1" ?
It is very similar to your error. I think I need to look at the screen update routine some more...Quote:

I'd also come to the same conclusion about Naamloos. What a top word!
Right, that's now word of the day...
The divide by zero erro I got was on the splash screen. This is before the factions etc were displayed...
You're joking? Any chance of a screen shot, and letting me know where it fell over? It tells you what it's doing at the bottom near the fill bar....Quote:

It aborts pretty quickly - no fill bar as I could see on the splash screen.
Hopefully I have attached a screen dump...
Cool!
Have you got DirectX 7+?
That's the only thing I can think of that would cause it abort so soon...
If not then either download it from the microsoft website or open the scripts directory in the gamedev directory. Find the options.ini and set anything relating to the sounds to false.
That may work.
Ben: attach a version of the sounds ini with sounds turned off for ease, or at least display it here...
Ian: I'm at work - and therefore bereft of options.ini's....Quote:

later...
bananafish - do you have a copy of options.ini from the scripts directory that you could post here. rename it as options .txt to make it easier to upload.
sure do
Sorry banana, we're not ignoring you. I'm unable to download stuff at work (dumb internet policy), and I assume by his silence that Arbiter has gone home.
I'm sure he'll pick up on this in a bit though...
no probs
Yep, i didn't had the time to 'make' a name for it...Quote:

So i always post naamloos.jpg instead of bugx.jpg or untitled.jpg...
Arb :
I wish there was a way to let us understand eachother ;)
Icheb
Righto, I'm home, I'm rocking and rolling etc etc
Ok BananaFish,
Firstly, I've posted a maintenance release up on the server.
Sentience.zip
It should solve your divide by zero error but the problem was the divide by zero was caused by the error handling routines
So, there is an error - but we couldn't see what it was...
Anyway, download that and extract the Sentience.exe and copy it over the old one - then give it a whirl!!!
It will also solve some other minor errors and includes the first stage of the MFD - but you don't need to know that....
Ok then peeps - here is the options.ini sans sound.
Download and write over the old options.ini in the scripts directory if you're having problems with sound. :)
Remember to rename it to .ini before you put it in the scripts directory... ;)
Arbiter, my modified INI file is just the same as you posted, still no luck with the game getting off.

Rats!
Have you downloaded the maintenance release from the server?
It's a 600k file containing a new Sentience.exe to overwrite the old one with.
Would you try that please - it might shed a little more light on the error....
Ok people, I'm working on a launcher now to eliminate the silly bug of it not restoring the screen resolution.
I realise people have mentioned this before, but how many people would like to have the screen res in Sentience customisable?
Let's have a show of hands please....
Right then peeps,
Latest version is up and online now.
Comes with the all singing, all dancing Sentience Launcher. Guaranteed to look after you if the game crashes and allows you to customise the in game resolution..
Yes, that's right (Plend!) you can now run Sentience at up to 1280 x 1024.
Some of the screens are not yet jiggeried with so they might look a little odd at anything other than 800x600 - but I'll have them sorted soon.. :)
WARNING: The screen res thing has no error checking - it is not recommended going above 1024 x 768 on a 15" (or lower)monitor unless you KNOW it can handle it.
If you do bugger it up, restart the machine in safe mode and reselect a sensible resolution from there....
Error checking is on the way, but not implemented yet.
I'd like people to post with comments when they get chance please.... :)
Have you checked to see the the cost of proformance is for larger resolutions? I know this is a major issue in Planet Wars.
As soon as I start the program, I get a run time error 13, type mismatch, and if I try to run senccore, it stops loading on launching game.
Gaming,
You ran the launcher first yeah? Did you pick the resolution you wish to run at. There isn't one set as default - you have to choose one...
If the problem persists, could you take a screenshot please?
Where can I find this... launcher? Same problems EXACTLY as Gaming.
What am I supposed to download? I have the GameDev.Exe from your link Arbiter, but I don't have anything from Behemoth's link. What should I get from there?
OK, attached is a new copy of the Sentience launcher. Just copy this over your old Sentience.exe - this should solve you problems, if not, let me know (and attach a screenshot )
Apologies, Sas. I haven't got around to updating my sig. perhaps it would be wise if I removed the link altogether...
Behemoth - for you
Behemoth says:
the no player message needs to sound more professional now though...
Arbiter says:
yeah yeah
Behemoth says:
any chance of resizing the b/g images, they're too bright when they're expanded. you can see the edges of the frames and the black between the "grooves" of the fillbar
Arbiter says:
eh?
Arbiter says:
. you can see the edges of the frames and the black between the "grooves" of the fillbar
Arbiter says:
??
Behemoth says:
the first few screen (800*600), the background looks too pale (because the lens flare covers most of the screen...)
Arbiter says:
Can you post these in the G&GP forum please?
Behemoth says:
energy chip and sensor chip are interchanged in the industry screen
stuf
Okay, one problem though: It's not giving me any choice of resolutions in the launcher.
Sorry about dat.
See the post that says Behemoth - for you....?
Get the latest launcher from there. That'll do the trick... ;)
Thanks for being patient, this messing around shouldn't have happened!
I was talking to Behemoth online, and he said this too. Helps a great deal. Now, I went in and enabled the sound. I then saved; bombed out with Error 9. Gives me error 13 now every time I try to go in...
I still get the run time error. As you can see, I am running under XP with admin previliges. I have switched my FS to NTFS and compressed the drive.
Forgot to post the picture.
/me is home early today, will try today on other comp...
This one doesn't have enough mem to read email (i guess i blew up 2 64 mb dimm units)
Icheb
(i keep getting setbacks, but i'll do it !!)
Gaming,
Use the senlauncher that's attached to the post that says "Behemoth - for you"
Switching FS will make no difference. My dev machine is NTFS also.
Sas,
Every time you try to go in what? Sentience? The Launcher?
Could you post your options.ini up here for me to look at please?
And if you could take a screenshot of the error (with the background please - so I can see where it occurred).
Whoops, missed that post.
So it's working ok now is it?
Until I start a game. I had the res set to 1280x1024, and I attemted to start a game and got the error that is attached.
Also, when I ran sentice from the launcher, the res changed to 800x600, then when I started the game (pressed OK on the last screen of the new game), it changed to 1280x1024. Seems odd to me.
By start a game (in the first set), I mean pressed OK on the next player screen, the second set I mean pressed OK on the last screen of the new game and it finished making the map.
The res will remain at 800x600 until the game starts.
You didn't go with a small map did you?
Set your map to 100x100 and run the game again at 1280x1024.
Oh and Gaming, when you take a screenshot - it's the background I'm interested in - not the actual error dialog box itself..... ;)
Arb :
The new version of the launcher could use a background.
Furthermore, don't u think it looks better if the loader (the form) dissapears (this is not a language) ?
The new version worked without sound, when i tried to activate sound i got a type mismatch error.
And now when trying to start Sentience, i also get the error.
Icheb
(sorry, no shots included, cant make a shot of a invisible error.
I mean, when i try to start Sen core (with the launcher) i get the error, but it's behind the loading form, i saw it twice, but i couldn't make a screenshot, didn't work)
Icheb,
Do you still get the error when sounds are turned off?
