Ok, 8kx8k takes up about 95 megs, and still runs at 50-100 FPS, although it is a bit sluggish when you run it initially. I guess thi is the choice, then?

sas, I forgot to sugest that you try keeping the VRML file's code on your VRML file maker inside a file, or in a variable, instead of a textbox. I tried making somehting and it gave me an out of memory error.
I say Yes to Zaei's question.
I say yes.
I say yes as well.
I'll output it straight to the file, how about that, so that we have no out of memory (or one i noticed, no more space in textbox!) errors.
That's a much better model than the other one. I think the legs still have to be bigger, but that's it.
Longer?....or larger diameter for the legs?..or both?
They would be longer. (the legs).
And Igor, the base unit isn't actually a playable unit, so it doesn't need to have a weapon.
Ok. I have begun to work on the re construction of the engine. I am creating DLLs for each sub system. More info tomorrow.

Longer legs...very bad looking skin..with mis-aligned face..and overly modern cothling:
That is such a scary crashdummy.
Is it the angle that we're viewing at, or are there no feet? If not, I'd like some to be on there. Keep up the good work!
Let's name the little virtual man "JOHN W. WILLOW"! I think John has feet, it's probably the view.
Hey john! merry john! ring a dong john!
Ring a dong! hop along! fall on the pillow!
John bomb, jolly John, John W. Willow!
Hehe :D
Indeed there is feet. 2 of them...
I request applause for my great performance.... please?
Cbomb: Give him some fatter tighs. Take a look at yourself and see that the legs are bigger on the top than on the bottom. And give him some muscles...:D Play around with the vertexes until you're somewhat satisfied. Are you using 3Dsmax? What version?
Sastraxi: Hmmm...Will that mean that when we make a unit in the game, we'll add the unit and then give him a weapon alligned to the model? I think it would be much easier if we gave him the weapon right away, because he will only use one, wont he?
KamikazeKiwi3:*Applaudes* ;)
Zaei:Have you figured out about the animations?...walk cycles/attacks/building/chopping wood/etc/etc/etc
Jorj:hmmmmmm.....
Naaah...forget it
Thanks Igor!:D
Oh, about what you the unit and the weapon, I think we were having the option of upgradin unit weapons.
No, the weapon is unchangable on the units. This is the BASE MODEL, so we make all the other models off of this. Then we give them their swords or whatever.
No, I haven't figured out the animation yet. One thing at a time =).

Here's the next version of Elevation, read the release notes to see what's changed.
Sorry :D (v1.75)
I just finished the MechCommander 2 Demo (which is lame, the MC1 demo took me about 3 days to beat, this one took about 25 minues, minus about 5 minutes of loading). Anyway, it looks good, pretty much what I am looking to create in TOW.
Next, ive got another gameplay idea. Basically, Stealth. Anyway, I assmue units will be able to run, and walk. running double walking speed, blah blah. Basically, Stealth is just another way of walking, except it is half the speed of "Walk", but the enemy cannot see the unit until it stops moving on stealth, attacks, or comes within a certain range of a few units. This would allow ambushes to be set up, sneak attacks, etc.
Also, did anyone go and read the links i posted above? I need to know what at least someone thinks about the damage model presented.
Z.
rEaL iGoR: Ok, Ill work on that. 3ds MAX 4.0
Ok, first things first. You don't have to call me rEaL iGoR. my real nick is "iGoR" but since that was already taken, I come out as the REAL iGoR. I don't care if you call me iGoR or IGOR or igor or whatever.
Sas: If I these 'base' models. And I make them 'complete' models with weapons etc. Then I would add several more faces, which is No Good. I need a weapon on the low-poly dude too, you know :)
However, to everyones interrest, I bought myself a book today (It only:rolleyes: costed me 500 Kr(500 NOK~60 USD):D But, you know what they say: Those who's got money...
I'm going away tomorrow and won't be available until Sunday night, or monday. So, if I don't check for posts later, Bye bye for now. BTW. Any news on Norman? I need some Concepts...;)
Ok i rebuilt this lil guy....John....and heres the latest update...im still working on the thighs as you siad.
He's lookin good.
Anyway, tomorrow, I plan on posting a copy of the map application, so people can take a look at it, and get a feel for what it will be like. It will be fairly large, around 4 megs, because I am going to include the height map that i created using Jorj's map of the world. To use it, you will have to open it in any graphics editing software, and stretch it out to twice its size. Then, just put the map file in the folder with the program, and run it. Loading takes a while (about a minute on my P3 550), and you get two message boxes to let you know what is going on (One says "Loading", the other says "Complete"). When you finally get to the thing, you can fly around using the arrow keys, rotate the view with the "delete" and "end" keys, and move the camera up and down with the "PgUp" and "PgDn" keys. For this, I NEEEEEEDDDD some massive amounts of feedback, so if you have the time to download it, and play, PLEASE do it, and give me info. Anyway, like i said, Ill get this to you tomorrow (Ill post it on the web page, and put in a news item (I hope you dont mind, Sas =)).
Have a good night, and Ill see you all in the morning.
Z.
Don't post it until I tell you to - I may overwrite your data if you update it before my upload! And also, you could put Zaei's heightmap and Jorj's map into my program, to see the results in VRML.
Can I stretch it with a non-pixel resize?
What was that last, Sas?
Z.
Here's some buildings I whipped up....(note: they're totally out of scale)
John looks great, Cbomb, but his neck is a bit long. And if you're really bad at making skins(like me) you can ask Sas. He is said to be good at it.
Sas, look at my post, the last one on the previous page.
I have it on 100 posts per page, what post is it?
Visit this link, and read it, and tell me what you think.

Thanxs Zaei
Very nice website. Alot of usefull info
Lemme introduce VBTrooper. He's the person I said would help test the game.
OK, I'm gonna post links to the VRML veiwing app so all of you find it easier to get.

ELEVATION GRID WORLD GENERATOR V 1.75(by Sas)
Mmk. On a 4kx4k map, it takes 4 minutes and 15 seconds to traverse the diagonal of the world. Using that value,we can assume that it will take the player approximately 8 and a half minutes on an 8kx8k map, and, if we let the units travel at 1/20 of the speed of the player, it will take a single mounted unit about 170, or almost 3 hours (real time) to traverse the map. Since a mounted unit is 1.5 times as fast as a unit running, a non mounted, running unit will take about 3.9 hours (about 4), and, a walking unit is twice as slow as a running one (approximately 8 hours), and a unit on Stealth (since no one replied on that topic, ill assume it's ok), will take about 16 hours to traverse the world.
Of course, these numbers are all conjecture, but it should give everyone a good idea as to the size of the world. We could always slow the player down, of course, which would increase the apparent world size. Feedback required.
Ill post the map thing later.
Z.
In agree in slowing them down a bit in other for the land to take more to travel, for it would make it a bit hard for the story if units could cross the map in 8 minutes.
Oops! That's the camera, not the units! I want the units slown, but the players view speed is ok a 8 mins for the diagnal.
