Lol I'm still a bit too far away from that limit :p But I haven't had the time to post that much lately
oh well
I was a loong way away from it a while ago too.
I used to have like a 1 post average
Because i have posted a fair bit lately it's now up around 5 i think...
Please stop gassing in the Sentience thread. This is for discussing Sentience, not how big your ***** is
Does anyone have any further comments about Sentience or are we all just waiting for the next release?
waiting for [to poke holes in] the next release [/to poke holes in]
Bastards....
Right, I can see I'm going to have to do a 'proper' job on this then. Give me 'til the end of the weekend - I don't have much time to work on it in the evening as I'm doing 12 hr days at the moment...

You tell him Silvy.
And Motox, if you mean 'are we going to release it commercially' then we're not sure. We started making it as a bit of a challenge, but it seems to grown into something pretty big...
NumBugs = (NumNewFeatures ^ 2) + (NumOldBugsIgnored)
;)
AmountOfPainPlendReceives = (IrritationOfBen * MartialProwess * ((AvgSpeedOfPunch +AvgSpeedOfKick)/2)) + (IrritationOfBehemoth * WeightOfBehemothsArms + RoarValue)
The general rule for all complex programs. ;)Quote:

lol thats a good 1
Well, isn't the Plend the comedian huh? ;)
mutter mutter
I'll make sure that the next release has a lot less bugs in it.
If anyone else has any bugs that they've found then post now so I can slaughter them before the next release...
Righto,
Behemoth, and friend of mine named Pete and myself spent about 4 hours last night going through diplomacy, special projects and monsters and Behemoth and I spent a little more time finessing monsters this morning.
We've got some corking ideas as to how we're going to proceed now - Behemoth's got **** loads of graphics to get done and I'm coding like a ***** as we speak.
By the end of tomorrow there'll be a fresh new version to play with including a couple more screens and with any luck the first phase of native lifeforms implemented.
It's going to be a good un this next version.... :)
Have you fixed the bug I mentioned a couple of times about the menus going off the bottom of the screen?
That bug should have been fixed ages ago Gaming - if it occurs again, can you take a screen shot please?
i downloaded this game, it gave me 2 errors before it worked for me,
first one was could not autoredraw,
2nd out of memory,
3rd one i got in, PHAT sounds, Cool graphics...
but then i was generating a map i think, it gave me another error
in which the program unloaded and then my screen resolution
was all messed up.. maybe you should try to fix it so that
whenever the program unloads it doesnt mess up your resolution
hey, i have a question, after you guys are done with this game,
are you going to post it somewhere for people to download it??
Arb :
I've uhhm, how does one call it, built a new comp, it still has major problems, like the supplyer gave me DDR mem instead of SDRAM, so i've taken 128 mb out of my normal comp, so it might take some time till i can test the new version.
When will ya upp it ?

Thanks for trying the game!
Right, the first two errors could have been down to the amount of stuff you had running, or how long the machine had been going without a restart.
What was the problem when generating a map? Could you take a screenshot for me please and upload it here? There should be no problems with map generation at this stage...
I know there's a problem with it eating the resolution when it dies - there's something in the pipeline for that.... ;)
Thanks
We're not sure what we're going to do with it - it started off as a bit of a challenge and has practically grown into a way of life for us now... :DQuote:

The new version should be uploaded towards the end of this weekend. It's got loads more stuff in it - not all of which is immediately visible, but will become apparent over time...
It's becoming playable now - rather than just something to look at. In a couple of versions, you should be able to play someone to the end of the game (or play a one player game to the end)
yeah, when i came home tonight i tried your game again,
no errors, i think thats what it was what you said,
and i didnt get the resolution problem anymore...
the only thing is that i tried to play the game,
but its too complicated and i tried to see if there was a manual
for your game cause its kinda complicated
download the update
also:
i will have SOOOOO much time by thursday - no more exams (yay :D) and i'll try it out good and proper and make some suggestions ;)Quote:

It's very complicated if you're not used to it.Quote:

There's a mini tutorial with it that runs when you start a new game. If it doesn't appear then make sure you downloaded the update and copied the Sentience.exe from update.zip over the old one and the options.ini from the zip into the scripts directory.
Great!Quote:

(Just for your information, it's 11PM and I should already be in bed by now because of the test :D )
I've sumthing funny to do too...

anyway, it's a fair bit for a year 9 student  :(
Well,
A few minor setbacks have prevented me releasing the latest version this weekend. I hope to have the latest version up either today or tomorrow. :)
Cool as!
:DQuote:
Cool ass!
Anyway, yeah I know it's a too much, but I'm in the 10th grade now and things are a bit harder :)
Hi guys!
Right, the Sentience download area has now changed to:
www.gibbonbash.fsnet.co.uk
and that's where the latest release will now be stored.
I shall be updating my signature accordingly...
Right then boys and girls, the latest version is uploaded and ready to go.
Again, I'd like as many error reports as you can please - it should be a lot tighter now I fixed the last lot, but I've also added a load of behind the scenes stuff which isn't apparent and that might affect integrity a little.
There's some problems with the screen display (esp near the edges) so can you keep an eye open for that please and let me know what seems to be causing it - 'cos I have no idea.
Marvel at the new graphics, sigh at the new screens, and whimper with delight at the herd of new bugs I've probably worked in.
Well, anyway - it's ready for download at:
www.gibbonbash.fsnet.co.uk
One suggestion: add in screen shot saving (it is annoying and virturally impossible for me to take screen shots). And the reason it is so hard is due to the current unstability of my comp :(. And it isn't too hard to have the game save them as JPG's, and it is even a starderd (I have some code where I add a module, and a class module to the program, add one line of code where I want the save screen shot code to be and I'm done. I only have to complie the program and add a make sure the users have a dll on in their path (windows/sys or currentdir))
The menus still go off the bottom of the screen for me :(. I was unable to take a screen shot due to the unstability of my comp. I took it, but didn't get it saved before the comp got stuck in 800x600 mode from ur game and a crash of rundll.
I also got a runtime in the game, don't rember how. I'll have to take another look and see if I can find it.
I just took the picture of the menu going off the bottom, and attached it to this post.
Whoops, forgot to attach it :(.
I thought you were going to fix the bug in the attached screen shot for this verson
Weren't you going to change my name too? It should be Chris Kaynor instead of Gaming_World (See the attached picture)
Hum, I accidently opened two copies of the game, and I got an out of memory error. I think you should limit the number to one copy, as that is enough for one comp. ;)
In the screen shot attached, I selected my starting mech (works with any mech), then tryed to change the view. The screen doesn't update, unless the selection is on the screen. Also, if you use the explore map cheat, it doesn't update your minimap until your turn ends. I belive the same is true with vaild exploration.
I just relisied I am posting a lot of differnt posts here. Make sure you read starting with the first one, so you see all the bugs I have found :).
I'm almost positive some of them will get deleted
I love my start location in the game for the attached screen shot. Lots of enemies could be right next to me ;). This file is being a pain to upload :(.

Are you getting that when you try to click continue when you have no faction selected?
Sorry pal... :(Quote:

I'll get it done...
Nope, that's not true. Valid exploration updates the minimap accordingly. The cheat is merely a testing feature and is not expected to be bug free. If you wish, apply the cheat and then move your mech.. ;)Quote:

I'm dealing with them as I come across them so I don't miss anything - for future reference, please try and combine them to one post, ta.... :)Quote:

I've not seen any monster houses yet on any of your screen shots - did you turn them off, or have you not come across them?
maaaaan slow down LOL....btw.....are you gunna add error traping to this?

Motox, there IS error trapping - I'm still trying to figure out how Gaming gets those errors - do you get the same?Quote:
