New VB-World Design

problems ..plz help. I have got a database in Access and one of the field is PretechJobNo with I assigned as number in data type. the following is the code to get all other fields on the flexgrid once I key in the value for pretechJobNo.

run time erroe 3464
data type mismatch in criteria expression.

this works ok is prt is string as datatype....please show me the correct technique on this...

James / John : one thing, you put the private messaging info at the bottom of the forums screen. I like the idea of seeing this as the first option above all the forum links, any chance of moving this one back up please ?

looks nice :) i think the forum pages would look better if they were centered though, rather than being tucked away to the left.

I think this new look is confusing :confused: Just scroll to top of the page and target your eyes in the middle of it. It just looks annoing, too much different colors, it's all put into too many places.

I know design things are hard. You can take a look into my big site, http://fan.theonering.net/kontu/ and see how I've managed with over 100 pages. Though, the site is in Finnish and mainpage has a little bug. Anyways, I think it's much clearer than what this site is atm.

Of course I don't have advertisements in there, no banners and such which would make my life harder :rolleyes:

It's just in a first glance, but it looks great. Gives a much better vieuw and doesn't feel so , how do you say it (rommelig)???, messy.

It's right to the point and has a more mature look. I grow and VB grows with me!!!!

The page is great but is there any chance of the server not being too busy to handle my request?

To be honest it looks ok. The only thing that i do not like is things moving around to much.

I prefer the old design but I'll live with the new one 'til I get used to it. I'm more concerned about the Server too busy messages which are a real PIA.

Can't complain too much 'cos you generally do a very good job, even if you don't respond to e-mails:(

How about the same logo just spice it up a little.
Kinda like vb IDE and VI IDE same interface just that VB IDE is spiced up.

Good design, much more organized. The only problem with it is that the left side now seem empty, as if something belongs there. Maybe its just that I visit this site too many times!!!! Oh, also in Netscape 4.7 (my one at least) you can't see the user cp, register, and all that stuff above. Oh, and one last thing: if you look at psc you can see that it loads the search thing at the top, then the rest. That would be nice here. Thats all!!!

Could just clean up the logo and leave it as it is, but cleaner and clearer.

On the forum of your choice where it lists all the entries to that particular one, I think there should be a link to a page saying just who is currently on. Just my opinion!

Well, this design is cool. I like the screen space issue... I do not like how my message is scrolling as I'm typing it tho (800x600)... I also agree the logo has GOT to go. I dont like the tabs being at the top because I cant get to them, say, right now! Why not make a table, with 2 cells, one for the logo bar (and about logo if needed) and the other for content? The button bar is always accessible. Also, maybe ask about.com for a color change? Maybe make the border blue? Just a suggestion, it would make things look alot better. Other than that, it looks GREAT!

Make a section for project ideas. I am at a loss on a final exam project for computer programming... Maybe a few hints for each idea...

It's nice, although I don't get why it is that new and cool blue one when I enter the site, but when I send any replies to any posts, it turns YELLOW!?

I normally only use the forum while at work
I didn't notice any change on Monday weird!
but I yesterday I had a day off and...

My main PC at home is out of action at the moment so I dusted of my old 486 and connected using that. It's got win95 and IE3 and the forum gives a lot of javascript errors.

I thought the look of the page was just the way IE3 chose to render it I didn't realise that it was "NEW"

How come you're got About.com splashed all over the top of VB World, but when you go to http://visualbasic.about.com/ VB World doesn't even get a single mention.

Ok they may be sponsoring VB World...helping pay for the servers, lekky bills etc, but I think you at least deserve a link on their site!!!

Although I like most of the new features, I heavly dislike the new disgin. I find it is much harder to navigiate.

1. I miss the navigation bar at the side. Could you make the new tab bar above 'stay visible'(with frames perhaps...)
2. I suggest the picture of the logo should stay, only the quality should be improved (make clearer/sharper)
3. Get rid of the red About.com bar above the page. This only suggest I'm viewing about.com while it's not. Put it somewhere else. I understand it should be visible as sponsor, but please put it somewhere else. At the top is just too much...

Well kudos to the UI team for the effort and hard work put in and all thats coming upfront. Its getting a little difficult to adjust to the new UI. Neways its good besides as long as u don't break the spirit of these forums it s just great. All the best for the future.:)

I like this style much more than the last one. At least now all the stuff appears on the width of one screen (I'm lazy as well) :D. And my cookie blocker doesn't have to be turned off to see the topics and names of the thread starters now for some reason. But anyway, it looks fine to me.

Look I am a guy who don't like changes , so I don't like the change in the site - I think that the older one was nicer and more orginized.

I think the design isn't very attractive, it looks to plan and the colors don't work very well. When i first saw it, i was wondering where the side menu was! but i guess it will do :)

There's a lot I like and don't like about the new layout. I think many features make it easier to communicate with others; however, I have run into a lot of technical problems too. With some browsers I find the new lay out loads very slowly (or in some cases not at all). Additionally, some screen features are printed over other features making it harder to read. Not too long ago, I tried something that had been useful under the previous layout, which was searching for messages by a particular user. At that time, the site relayed a message indicating the feature was either disabled or not yet abled (I don't recall which). Anyway, I guess its just a question of time. But on the whole, its much nicer to look at.

I think the new design will take some getting used to, but it seems fine.

I use About sites, but coming to vb-world was going to a different universe all together, now it's just like ANOTHER About site. :(

The Menu Bar along the left was also pretty good, now the new site seems semi-naked without it.

I must admit that I tried refreshing a couple of times when I say the new design. :confused:

I agree with the other guys that a new logo would be in order or at least a clean up of the current one.

Well those are my ideas, in the meanwhile, I'll try and find my way around the new design. (Can't stand the mustard-yellow. Hot-dog anyone??)

This layout is definitely more "eye" appealing. Seems like getting rid of the "oh so common" left navigation bar worked well. Great work VbWorlder's.

Hi, this is the first time o've been on here so i cant compare it to what it used to be like (duh), but i must admit i'm very impressed, and its bloody fast!!! Even on a 56k standard modem.

Some thoughts on your design ..
Why can I not cut&paste into this post box? Am I meant to be able to?

After making a post you show the post again (why? I know what I posted! ) rather than going back to the list page.

From there, there is no obvious button to get back to the main list.

When showing a post, the body text (this text) is just off the bottom of the screen, so you have to scroll down to view. This makes quick browsing of posts very slow.. Maybe condense the white space at the top of the page??
