'One fewer', strictly, since the number of contestants is discrete.
and which definition of discrete is that?Quote:

discrete as opposed to continuous, and definitely not discreet (like this message!) — P
I know this is Chit Chat but since I have to look at every post I'd appreciate it if the posts were restricted to those that directly affect the contest. Thanks.

I've lots more, including winter snow scenes. When I get time, I'll set up the flickr account properly.
rjv rnjn your #5 entry I hadn't looked at up close until just now. When I did I realized that it's rotated 90 degrees to the left but I guess that's how you wanted it for whatever reason. The lettering on one of the buildings gives it away. "Millenia Walk".
there are far too many i want to upload lol so heres my gallery:

Why not use the new photo album feature of the vBulletin software? Have each person create a thread with their photo entries and a poll at the top. People can vote for the best of each person's images. These can then be put into groups of up to 10 to vote for semi-finalists, the finalists. This would let everything reside here on the forum and thus make it a bit easier as there will be no files to pass around.
Brad!
Okay - so I need to get Joe to get this forum upgraded in order to do what I just said......
I'll see where VBForums is on the list..... I was thinking it was already updated.... :eek2:

But won't that become a bit messy in organization. You can rate a picture qualitatively only after you have seen all submissions. Also, it will take away "the contest flavor"; deadlines et al; which makes it exciting.Quote:

Guys, sort it out next time or I shall arrange for a daily photoupdate to your respective email inboxes from the private collection of visualAd.
I just deleted a couple of posts. Please see post #64.
How's the voting going Martin? I remember during the last contest you said that not enough people were voting. We were writing posts to encourage voting be we got a bit too carried away.
Be sure not to vote since the voting is officially now closed. We are all now anxiously awaiting the results of the contest or maybe not so anxiously awaiting the results of the contest. I have my predictions but I know better than to voice them.
And the winners are:
1st - grilkip #1
2nd - mendhak #2
3rd - EntityX #1
Best Photographer (most total points)
mendhak
Other photos garnering 1st place votes: (in alphabetical order)
Arrow_Raider #1
manavo11 #1
MartinLiss #2
mendhak #1
mendhak #4
Merrion #1
soso3 #1
zaza #1
zaza #5
Congratulations all! I'll do this again in about 6 months.
Congratulations to grilkip and mendhak and thanks to everyone who voted for my picture. I took the shot of the bee back in 2004 in La Quinta, CA at the Trilogy which is a pricey development with a golf course. Arrow_Raider I thought that your shot would place. I thought it was excellent.
Woohoo! Glory and recognition be mine! :afrog:
Who are you?
Congrulations all.
Hapy dayy two you all!!! :afrog:
Those who didn't vote visualad will all die a horrible death. Mwhahahahaha.
And those those who one, you will spend the rest of your lives in a cell with Rick Astley.
Congrats to all those who have won.
Congratulations all...
But I did warn you all, as I didn't win, Chuck Norris will come and seek revenge!
According to this post there were no more than 12 photos out of the 78 that received 1st place votes.Quote:

Your figure of 12 assumes that the 3 top finishers all got at least one 1st place vote. While that happened this time it is conceivable for a photo to receive no 1st place votes and still finish in the top 3.
Martin, perhaps you could specify the criteria of winning in this contest so other confusions like with EntityX will be clarified?
Thank you for pointing out that oversight. The method for determining the winner was mentioned in the 1st contest but I forgot to include it in this one. In any case I've added a Contest Winners section in post #1 that explains how the winners are determined.
Marty, that was an approximation and the sentence implies there could have been less (maybe unintentionally) :pQuote:

Thanks for the vote spam! :)
I've created this album that contains the winning pictures from the three contests that we've had so far.
Nice Collection<>.
I'm thinking perhaps in a year or so when we have had at least 5 contests that I might run a contest for the best of the best with perhaps some real prizes.
Real prizes! I don't know that might be going too far. Here's my suggestion.
1st prize : $ 1,000,000
2nd prize : $ 500,000
3rd prize : $ 250,000
Members would start taking up photography and you would certainly fill up all the spots if you offered such prizes. Coming up with the $ 1,750,000 prize fund would be the hard part.
But more seriously, you could offer prizes of some sort. Gift certificates maybe.
Remove 5 zeros from each and you're in the ballpark.
one only had 4 zeros!Quote:
