I agree that we shouldn't be buffaloed by anybody. That's irrelevant to my point, though.
Have to agree with Shaggy, the liberals do seem to represent the smarter faction in this country while the republicans - well can we just say "George Bush"
But we did initially start this thread about Pat's steaks and then Gambo joined in and turned it into a political rant as he has in almost every thread I've seen him post in. Gambo, isn't there some political forum you could join to rant about stuff like that? Do you even know what VB is?

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
It makes immigrants feel even more unwanted. I don't live in Philly so I don't know what kind of Spanish folks you deal with, but I can tell you that Spanish folks don't like each other either. I think Chile hates Peru, Peru hates Columbia, etc.
Can't we all just get along?
lol, about the sign. I bet that owner has a shotgun stored away somewhere, and talks with a southern accent.
Oopps, sorry, there I go again with the stereo-types. :-)

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
If you can't speak english, then that's your problem. The fact that someone asks another to speak in English because they can't speak every single one of the 200+ languages in the world does not really constitute discrimination in my opinion.
-
Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
I'm looking for the option that says
"It's discriminating and THAT'S OKAY!" (with capital letters please)
-
Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
It's alright, you can just select Yes, you don't need to explain to anyone.

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
We should have one of those in Danish shops - "You're in Denmark, speak Danish!", that'd work wonders for the turism industry

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
Cheese Danish, or Raspberry Danish?

-
Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
The ones with the powdered sugar on the top
-
Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
Is there a different word for Danish in other languages? There should be a universal word for things like Danish, Pizza, Beer and lets make one for cheesesteak while we are at it so everyone can order cheesesteaks at that place.
-
Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
In Danish it's "Wienerbrød", and Wien(Vienna) is the capitol of Austria - a mysterious plot is forming. Will we ever be able to discover the real truth behind the Danish?(AND CAN WE HANDLE IT!?!!)
-
Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
Just in case any one missed it, the owner of the Philly shop is an over 50 Italian, in a neighborhood increasingly being populated by immigrants.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...enosSteaks.jpg
In any event, if all he asks is customers speak 'ENGLISH', it can't be classified as racially or ethnically discriminatory, only linguistically discriminatory - and there are no laws against that, thank god.

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
I can see the signs now....
"No Shirt, No Shoes, No English, No Service"

Ah - but wouldn't that be Shrillary then? Shillary doesn't really have the same impact.... :ehh: For some strange reason it makes me think of Shillings.....

It's been going downhill ever since you let Shakespear talk about Hamlet.

Well, you maybe right about that. Hilly and Billy are both in it for the money, you should research who is paying the mortgage for their palatial estate in Chappaqua, NY. It seems that Billy gets lifetime Secret Service Protection and Hilly and Billy have a small house on their estate where the ON DUTY Secret Service Agents, who mind you are protecting Hilly and Billy, stay when they are on the property. Don't you know it the amount that Hilly and Billy charges the government is the same amount of their mortgage payment a month. Hmmm sear coincidence I am quite sure ;-). The Clinton 's are only out for themselves they could care less if you or I have health care, etc. It is all about having POWER.
The citizens of Chappaqua NY have even erected (pun intended) a sign in honor of Billy C. (Attention the following graphic is a Photo shop Job, you have been warned, this warning is brought to by Mark Gambo for those members who don't understand the meaning of a joke)

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
I thought all politicians were in it for the money and the power. This would explain why we still don't have universal health care or even a decent private system. Perhaps he should have just taken tons of money from SIG and screwed the people when he was in office - oh wait, he'd have to run under the Republican ticket to do that.
I'm sure glad Gambo isn't reading my posts anymore because he is too thin-skinned to handle this one.

Re: 'Speak English' signs allowed at Philly shop
the healthcare is the main reason why I won't vote for Hillary.... so if she wins the nomination, McCain's got my vote... of Obama wins.... then I'll need to re-evaluate a few things.

Hate to break it to you, but virtually all politicians beyond a few at the state and local level are in it for that reason. Why else would people put themselves through an election for federal office? There have been books written on the subject.
The bottom line is that a willingness to be elected to federal office should disqualify a person from being a candidate for such office....or we can just accept that some people want power, and give it to them in exchange for some modicum of leadership. Take your pick, not that you have a choice.

Unfortunately there are people who believe it when Hilliary says during her speeches "I feel your pain". No she doesn't, she seeks the power that being the US President holds. Too bad for the Dems that she still believes that she will be the nominee. Tsk tsk, every day she stays in the race is another Democrat gets disgusted and the more McCain looks presidential. Get use to hearing the following:
President John McCain
Senator Barack Obama
Senator Hilliary Clinton

The amount provided is based on a government formula, not set by the homeowner, and in the Clintons' case this amount is $1,100. (Note that this figure was not chosen by the Clintons, and it is well short of their monthly mortgage payment.)
Most important, although regulations call for the payment of this amount, the Clintons have not in fact accepted any money from the Secret Service.
Marty,
I can't tell you how I know this without giving up my source but HillBilly are charging the US taxpayer for rent on that bungalow that the Secret Service Agents stay in. This is the same guy who took a tax deduction on under garments donated to the Salvation Army. Just because Snopes says it isn't true doesn't mean it is always true.
Trust me you and I are paying for their home in NY not directly but we are paying.

What's wrong with that? I did exactly the same thing! According to TurboTax's ItsDeductable module a used pair of mens underpants depending on condition is worth $2 or $3 as a deduction:)

One other thing about the Clinton's when he was elected President he was making about $40 or $50K a year as Governor of Arkansas, so they didn't have a lot of money Like George Bush, his father, Jimmy Carter, or Ronald Reagan. All of these men accumulated great wealth before they became president. Bill on the other hand had to learn how to live very frugally if he was elected State Attorney General when he was he would have been homeless. If you are ever in NYC let me know I will prove to you what I am saying is true and believe me you will be more than satisfied with what you find out.

So it sounds like Clinton is the first president in a long time who actually understands anything about the general populous of the country. GW certainly hasn't got a clue.
I find it interesting that you are making value judgements of a person based on how much money they have. Yeah Bush was a real stand up guy before he cleaned his act up. He was an alcoholic and drug addict but by your standards a much better person than the rest of us pee-ons who were born without a trust fund.
I believe that I personally am an alcoholic but perhaps one day I will hit the lottery and then I'll become born again and run for president. At least I know I can count on your vote.
