Yay! Fantastic RD. Let's have a few run of the mill benchmarks while we're at it, maybe a pass of SuperPi doing the 1m test? Should only take around 21secs for you i think, or was it 23?
Good luck putting it all together though :D

Maybe I should post some pixs as its being built? This thread is now more like a blog for my system.
I'm still worried about the dual PCIe cards performing properly. So lets cross our fingers. Just have the CPU, VCards, and HD w/cooler to install.

How is it coming?
I'm just finishing my work for the day and its now just after lunch time and I havent even had a second cup of coffee or breakfast yet. :(
Was on phone support with a client most of th morning and posting here while waiting for them to foloow my instructions. :D
I'll post an update tonight as I hope to have the Artic silver applied and everything else installed.
Ahhh, we're adding pictures now are we? This is one of my finished system (it's attached). Not a great picture, but look at the size of that cooler :D And that's my gorgeous X1600XT sat there as well.... Awwwh, bless em, they don't know what's hit em when they've been overclocked ;)
Hope you get things done soon Rob.
Thats a massive cooler but why did you use such a small 80mm exhaust fan? A 120mm looks like is supossed to go there. Less then $10 ;)
Ah yes, been meaning to fix that, the 80mm is heat controlled, it is actually in the CPU_FAN header, and the huge fan is wired to the 12v molex that a hard drive would normally take.
Thus, it hardly really spins above 1000rpm, meaning hardly any noise at all :thumb:
Should get a 120mm for it, but my 120mm is at the front as an intake. Silent as well :)
Money's short right now, so kind of saving it for more important things :)
Like a new system when you smoke this one? lol
I'm talking about the little blue toy fan :D
Sony has a low rpm silent mid cpf producing case fan of 120mm that is about 9 bucks. About the price of one fast food mean. :D
Ahhh, you think it'd overheat? I hope not... But it shouldn't, full load temps at 3Ghz barely break 46'C nowadays :) And idles at around 28 - 30'C. Not sure on fahrenheit on those figures, but i know google can sort them if need be ;)
I couldn't live without the little blue fan though, it just looks dwarfed, so, it has to stay :D
If you keep your case open like that all the time then you loose out on the air currents developed by the fans and actually could be running hotter then if it was closed. ;)
Ah, that was just for the picture anyway :)Quote:

Anywho, get your system built you! :p
Good thing I bought the Artic Silver as the retail box CPU didnt even come with any
Are you sure? It should have had a white square of paste on the bottom...Quote:

Ok, guess I will have to read the directions as it appears that it already has thermal tape strips applied?
Upside down pix of the heatsink/cooling fan.
Scrub them off :)
There's a special form of alcohol that does the trick nicely, but i find simply warm water and a good scrubbing pad works just fine, just do a really good job with removing it. and watch your clothes!
Hmm, maybe I'm better off leaving them on? Its a copper head contact area with raised "thermal tape" strips.
Not if you're applying Arctic Silver 5, they need to come off.
And use hot water not warm, sorry. You can leave them on and run it like it is, just Arctic Silver 5 always means lower temperatures when used correctly over stock thermal compound/paste/pads.
What I can also place the artic over the stock thermals?
No, sorry, my wording was really bad on that last part. Don't use Arctic Silver 5 over them. It's just for metal to metal contact.Quote:

Well I have (2) 120mm fans, a dual fan PSU (push/pull configuration), and a side case vent directly channeling air to the CPU.
If I use the stock thermal tape can I later change it to the artic one?
Yes, you can later change it :)
With that setup you should be good to go anyway.
I just dont feel right changing the thermal tape off of it brand new right out of the box. I read there is some special cleaner for removing it too so I'd rather wait I think. Even though I got a great discount on the CPU, it costs more then some entire systems by itself.
It would be a good way to determine the temp difference running stock first and then maybe change it to Artic and see how many degrees difference there may be. :)
True, i never ran stock thermal grease on mine, changed it straight away but by all accounts my stock temperature is down by around 10 - 12'C, same with load, which is cool.
Enjoy the new system :D Isoprpyl Alcohol or something, can never spell it, anyway, it's here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol
I read about the remover from the link you posted earlier about the install instruction for Artic. Guess they double their sales by selling a remover too. :D
Going over to install the CPU ........
Ah, there's a specific remover now, i like that :thumb:
Good luck with the CPU, and i hope you read the instructions about the heatsink clips. One tip is to use the metal to push down if needed, not the plastic clips.
WOOT! Got it powerup and running now. :D
Installing Vista right now too. :D
Thanks for all the help as this thread is truely resolved (at least until I get batteries for my digital camera to take a pix of the internals for you).
