Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I like to use the Who's on-line feature aswell now and again. Its pretty useful cos I'll sometime just load it up to see who is on or if someone is repling to any of my threads before I log off and stay if they are. Also when I'm on it I see the titles of soem threads I might not have and end up giving some input where I wouldn't have known of the thread otherwise.
I agree though the people who have selected stealth mode should have the right not to appear on it, I think on the last version they should up as Guests so you still saw what people were doign but you didn't know who all of them were.
BTW Brad didn't used to be invisible that was Marty ;).

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
My input as far as the Attachment limit goes: Did you say the limit is 5MB (or just under anyway?) Cos I've just checked mine and I have 10.8MB used, is that cos I'm a mod? Anyhow I was going to say before I said that (Thinking I'd only used 2.5MB) that for people who have been here a long time, e.g I registered back in 2000, would have already used up alot. And I see my self as I haven't posted alot considering how long I've been here there was a lengthy gap which I wasn't posting at all.
-
Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
Maybe if it is not too much trouble it would be possible to add extra size for the attachments for people that have been here a very long time, or have a lots of posts.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
So far, I like most of the changes...except the pastel colors, but that's just me.
The loss of vbCode scared me for a moment, but I guess that will be fixed. I don't see anything that I won't be able to re-learn pretty quickly.
Nice Job!

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I really like the new version more thann I thought I would! I especially like the ability to close or expand the top level forums to just the ones I want. It make s the page shorter and it remembers your view settings when you return.
http://www.vbforums.com/attachment.p...chmentid=32410
One thing that is bugging me is when you haven't viewed a thread, it will show a tooltip for it until you vierw the thread. Is there a way to turn this off?
http://www.vbforums.com/attachment.p...chmentid=32411
Multiple attachements are working!

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
Another issue is when you do an advanced search by exact username it doesnt find anything from before the upgrade.
Is this because the indexing may not be completed yet or is it a bug?
-
Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
Kinda Strange if I search for my username I get 500 results? I've not posted 500 times since the upgrade yet I've posted more than that.....I seem to remember that vB3 puts a limit on how far back the searches will go, even if you tell it to search everything.

I got a script error, but I cant re-generate it. I was trying to add color from the dropdown list and this poped up and the color dropdown no longer functioned off of the mouse click.

Now, it just takes me to the search screen, I select "posts since last visit" - and when I hit submit, it tells me I *have* to enter a user's name to search for?
Here's the link I used to use; http://vbforums.com/search.php?s=&action=getnew Man it was so handy.</ignore>
Ignore that.... I found it under the "Quick Links" menu..... I'm OK now..... *takes another chill pill followed by a coffee chaser.*
Thought you might want to know that there is a link on the top of every page (along from the UserCP link) saying "New Posts" ;)

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I tried to edit my signature to change the Edit icon and it tells me that my signature can be at most 300 characters long. As a matter of fact when I delete part of my current signature it gives the same error.
-
Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
Yes its a forum limit. Can it be changed to more than 300? I needed to fix mine and I lost half my sig.
It wasn't handling the vbcode tags and some javascript spacers -
Also, when you have links in your sig, the entire link path is counted as characters too. :(

I found trhe setting for the length and it was set at 300. Since it obviously used to be larger (mine was about 2600 characters in length) I changed it to 3000. I will discuss this with Brad.
-
Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I think the issue is more how much space the signature consumes, rather than the number of characters.
-
Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I agree. I just tightened mine up. Isn't there a setting for size? I thought I saw something at CodeGuru?

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
1) New forum is missing "Ability to obtain a Print version" .
2) I personally do NOT like the text colored blue. I find it VERY hard to read.
3) I personally do NOT like the separate box color for quotes and code.
Makes reading more difficult.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the administrators for all your efforts in regards to maintaining the forum.

#1. At the top of the thread there is "Thread Tools" menu. In it there is
menu item "Show Printable Version". Is this what you were refering to?

I'd love to get the great old smilies back. These new ones are quite bleh.

Link colour is too bright. Make it darker please, like the old ones.

Outside of the Notations above this smilie, this smilie is identical to the old confused smilie.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
brad, you sure you've updated your browser cache? Mine changed slowly to the new ones, now they're almost all new. Unless you've changed the old ones back and my cache isn't updating them yet.
-
Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I had our developer (Heidi) copy the smilies from the old board to this one. They look the same to me, but at this point I'm confident in saying that the smilies are the exact same ones that were here before the upgrade -- because that is what Heidi copied over. :)
Brad!

Okay, I'm still at a loss. Are you showing the old ones or the new ones?
When you post x != x, I'm seeing the same thing on both sides:

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I doubled the attachment limit to 10,000,000.
If you have more than that, then you should probably see what could be cleaned up.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
I'm goingto assume the smilies issue is resolved.
The # button is now gone in the editor as well (and the spacing on the "Code" button will be reduced shortly). I now have proper access to the php, so I'll start looking into the vb coloring after lunch.
Brad!

Yes thanks, it is resolved.
Is it hard to add c/cpp coloring too if we give you all the keywords?

Yeah thats the one. But we can only see the subject when someone has broken the thing. Posted in it that is, and then the add cuts off the rest of the threads and starts in one of the rows where a post should have been.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
The issue that Pino pointed out is now fixed, Brads turned off the Tooltip previews, they were interferring with the HTML so FF thought most the page was commented out.
As for the smilies how do I refresh the cache for FF? I still see the new Smiles...I actually don't have a prob with the new ones but I may aswell be on the same level as everyone else :D. Think I noticed when the smiles were uploaded, I was on the reply page and only half them displayed, the :eek2: was even a cross between  & :eek2:. Looked very strange but when I refreshed it was back to the new smiles still,
Also the Code button is still a # button for me .
Out of interest whats the attachment quota for Mods Brad?
EDIT: I pressed Ctrl + F5 and now I'm back to the old smilies :D.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback
Now we can dock the forums by group (.Net, Other languages, VBForums CodeBank, VBForums UtilityBank etc) I want them to remain docked but I cant make FF do it, does it has to do with FF?

It works fine on IE6. Must be a FF issue again.

Is there a way to get more disk space? I've been posting pictures, and at this rate I will fill it up in about a month...
Any way at all?

It is currently set at 10,000,000 (based on my bumping it up twice). If you are posting pictures, then if you are using gif/jpg/png formats, this should be thousands of pictures.
