This is a prime example of the type of post that does not belong on this forum. While my 8 year old nephew may find this funny, I can't believe and self respecting adult would find it funny. There is no point to the above post.Quote:

This is a prime example that makes it hard for me to defend not allowing the moderators to freely clean up (read 'delete') 'out of line' posts or threads in this forum.
Well, I thought it was funny and I'm 40-years-old :thumb:Quote:

*waits for ban*
I fear this is all going to end in tears
*keeps low and heads for the door*
All hail King Bodwad!
He's revolting!
He is also planning a revolt.
:( Same here. Can't we all just get along?
In looking back through many of the threads in chit chat, the answer to this seems to be a big no. That is why you have lots of mods and admins now breathing down your necks.Quote:

If you allow the serious threads to be serious, and if people quit using profanity and inappropriate comments, then I think you will see us move into the background again.
Brad, you can unregister me if you want. I am willing to sacrifice my login for the greater good.
Want a shrimp?
I have only just realised but it is really scary to think I dont recall what I have written in the past few months
Am I in trouble I really dont know. I know I am silly and nuts but I wouldnt normally describe any of my stuff as rude. Apparently I swear alot at the moment (at home and around) but my mind is often elsewhere with dieting and other worries :(
<serious>
I don't want to unregister or ban anyone. I simply want to make this forum a little less hostile and a little more accepting of others.
I'm only asking that you guys give some respect to the thread topics in chit chat -- such as the pulsar thread that was started and the ebay thread.
I'm also asking that you consider that there are younger eyes in these forums and that you simply consider that when you pick topics to talk about.
My asking that you not use profanity and watch the AUP should be understandable.
I'm not asking for two word stories and other 'fun' things to be stopped. I'm only asking that some respect be given to others that post here. I'm asking that you try to stop driving everyone else out of chit chat.
I really don't feel this forum to be any kind of hostile, simply because the bunch of regulars that we post here know that the replies never intend to be rude, just funny, wacky and slimy.
Have you received any kind of complain about this forum Brad?
I think hostile is the wrong word. I mean we flame each other ALOT, but its all in good fun. Problem is, to visitors, this looks bad. And I think that is the issue.
Plus when 90% of the posts on a page here in chit chat is just junk and spammy, often the rhyming threads as I mentioned (ie Bender, Mender, Lender. etc) that also looks bad.
Us regulars know what to expect. But I think we make new people who have just come to the forum feel left out an frustrated when trying to make a serious post.
That I was guilty of a few days back when I was helping and misleading someone (at thesame time) who was asking a serious question. I had to PM him to put it right and reassure him that his question wasn't stupid and we weren't making fun of him becuase he was a newbie, that it was actually quite normal for Chit Chat.
From now on
1) we may be silly in one anothers threads but take all new peoples threads seriously unless indicated otherwise by the creator.
2) No more mender ,bender whatever threads. If you want to do that keep it to the same thread
3) Not to be rude! Any terms of annoyance (polite way of saying nasty words :D ) will be replaced with  (Ok?)
4) Referance to sandpaper etc will remain in threads created by forum members who know what it is about
5) If possible keep chat to one thread and dont span it out that really gets on my nerves :)
6) If anyone breaks these rules it is the responsibility of other members to point it out for 'Correction' to the 'at fault' user.
7) All replacement for swearwords will be either  or **** no in-betweenies (That ok Brad?)
8) Chit chat will not overflow to other random threads within these forums. I dont think this really happened anyway but should make it a point
Any more? Chit chat rules :)
Since when are pointless posts such a nuisance? You know, this used to be a fun place (read: before the take over) to while away the dreary, dull moments on the job, have a bit of banter and harmless fun online, now you're suffocating it with these new rules.Quote:

I realise it's not a democracy but when you solemly declare such statements I can't help but snigger at you.
Makes me wonder why on earth VBF has the ignore function installed.

I think the swear problem comes when people do stuff like....please excuse this, but an example needs to be shown..
I dont give a FLICK.
...to get around filters.
I just say fudge now. :bigyello:
is "oh sugar" a way of getting round the filter? Or "oh bugger" and other UK-only idioms?

Thats the point I was tying to make. Thats the only reason I did it.
The latter probably will be.Quote:

Here is the million dollar question. Can we still be condescending and rude to obvious homework cheaters and virus writers?
I have always considered those insults and a slap to the face of legitimate developers and its probably my biggest erk that steams me.
As long as you don't use the words ****, *****, ****, or ***.Quote:

instead of **** use
Solution? Everyone that wants to make rhyming threads and discuss poo, post it at chitchatforums.com, everyone that want to discuss serious topics post on VBF, then we get this forum cleaned up. Or what?
I agree with Cander on virus writers. Of course we will report them but its so much more fun taking the micky.
Most members at the moment dont have enough smillie space for those type of post especially Cander
Like I said before. Im rude, not profane.
;)
Yeah, Ill just report virus writers from now on and try to keep my mouth shut. Wont be easy though.
That's all fine, and doable.Quote:

But, does this mean that everything needs to exist in black and white?
Take a look at this example here: link . Marty bans wossname for 24 hours for the use of "***". Ridiculous. There is a gray area. Perhaps the mods need to be told that as well?
*** happens to be part of the Internet lingo. Things like this just don't 'go away'. What about LMFAO or LMAO? These are extremely common.
Agreed, younger eyes will be going through these forums, but they're not supposed to be out unsupervised, are they?
heres a crazy idea, but crazy ideas are what move the world, what if chit chat is only visible to registered members?
You're having a laf arn't you?Quote:

VBF is not an over 18 site. A 6 year old should be able to visit and browse without coming across certain posts.
You can take the mick out of someone without the use of swear words, or being rude. Alas, this can only be applied to UK people since Americans do not get sarcasm or satire :D Anyways, my point is that, at the end of the day, there is no REAL need for bad language.
Virus Writers...Hmmm...I am sure a lot of you are quite capable of tracing their IP etc, finding where they live, flying there, and breaking their legs...still no need to lay into them on VBF...but if you do, then this can be done very tactfully....the use of  sez a 1000 words.
No offence to people here, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but this is a programming site...purely for programming in VB. It's not called www.VBForumsAndInternationalChitChatPostOrgy.com is it?
A lot of users spend more time here in chit chat than they do answering, or posting, relevant VB questions. Isn't www.chitchatforums.com the ideal home for this like that mad Norwegian mentioned.
Most of the threads posted in chit-chat are utter rubbish, and are posted by people who have WAY too much time on their hands.
To be a successful site, and I'm sure you ALL want VBF to be that, it has to be consistant across ALL forums and threads. Rules are here for a reason, I know, some of them suck and all rules cannot please all users. That's just life. Deal with it.
You also have to remember that this doesn't stop with Brad. he has superiors, he himself also has to obey orders and pass them down to use, regardless if he agrees with them or not.
VBF is a priveladge, not a right.
Had a bad day, and needed a rant :(
Woka
I would also like to point out that in the past I to have been a naughty badger and have done the things Brad is on about. I think most users probably have once or twice...even admins
:D
We are not all innocent. But now the problem has been identified we have the ability to reflect on this and do something about it.
Sitting here and biting the hand that feeds you is NOT a good idea.
Woof
I disagree

Yeah we are all guilty and certainly rules are going to get broken occasionally. No big deal. But geez, so much junk.

No one is brown noising. I get no special benefits for siding with the admins.
The fact is Chit Chat is garbage. Ask Galahtech members sometime. They saw it a long time ago. And they were right.
How about a Bot with Moderator Powers?
It could compile a list of all users who profaned in any given day, then randomly ban 5% of them, wether they were serious or goofing around.
I say we close the entire site down. Let's all joing TurtleTips!

Yeah, I was trying to figure out how that could work, but then you'd have to BE in ChitChat in order to Get those post counts, but if it wasn't visible, how could you ever be in chitchat to begin with?Quote:

Unless every now and then you wake up in a mysterious forum, without knowing how you got there, and you could post until you disappeared again.
Kinda like Adam Strange hopping between earth and that planet.
Hmmm, well, anyways...
Nope! I was talking about real Postcounts, the kind you only get with useful posts.
After all, after a thousand or so, its time you stumble across a place where you can finally lighten up a little.
:)
I started losing my sanity at about 856 posts. :afrog:Quote:

Its not that Americans don't get English humour, it just that they don't find it funny. Our humour is patriotic and traditional. :p
You HAVE to be kidding. America has stolen and perverted EVERY funny thing that has ever come out of Great Britain! Every time you blokes come up with some funny thing on TV, you can bet that it will show up in an Americanized version that will be similar to, but not quite as funny as, the original.Quote:

I don't think we've ever come close to Monty Python.
Id say Kids in the Hall comes VERY close to Monty Python as far as pushing the edge of comedy at the time and the very simliar styles, but that's Canadian.
We have actually had many brilliant sketch comedy style shows, but the really good ones never get the exposure they deserve and die off.
I am innocent.
oh and Marty - can you let wossname back in - we were working on a serious thing in the Maths forum.
Do I have to suffer, too?
Wossy must take responsibility for his actions, even if they affect other people.Quote:

Oh and by the way, wossy just told be he has fixed an overflow bug in the graph plotter (not part of your trend engine though ;)) and has completely restructured the graphic engine. Now it runs a bit faster and redraws better. He'll get back to you later with an update. :thumb:
