well you are going to lose many senior members who are the real life of this community....
i suggest you make it your highest priority to remove these ads or at least shrink them down to a reasonable size.. we but up with the first run of banners.. but this is rediculous...
look how bad these ads are
it your going to make the forums look like crap you could at least do it uniformly.... the links push over the first post while the replies stay left aligned....

How would you like it if you worked really hard on a program. Designing its look, and your users started complaining about the way it look. Wouldn't you feel bad??
Wait a second... that's happened to me. I actually listened and made changes to suit the user not myself. hmmm maybe there is something to be gained by complaining.

There are two pieces that have been added to the top of the pages. One is the VBWire list of articles/news items. The other is a BOB ad (the ad to the right of the VBWire list). Ads are not always present. When there isn't an ad, the VBWire list expands to the right to fill the page.Quote:

Brad...I think you can come up with a more seamless way of integrating your VB-Wire blurbs without killing the forum layout. I will admit, they aren't as bad as the banners.

well Brad... is this really the way the site is moving? why not throw in 20 pop up ads to.... i mean come on.. if i came to this site not even being here before.. i would think it was a joke.. how good could a programming forum be when they can't even layout the site correctly.. half the screens look one way half look another.. and i have to friggin scroll all the way to the right in my browser just to see the forum... the internet news banner is taking up the left half of my screen.. you guys REALLY designed it that way??? a 2 year old retarded chimp could put together a better site....

The internet news table is only in the "New Look" template which is not an official template for this site. Don't select this in the options and you'll never see it.
As stated before, I am not aware of that table of articles being planned for this site. The VBWire list of articles make sense because it is VB related. The internet.com article list doesn't make sense at this point. Placing it on the left side makes even less sense.
The banners sucked. This is worse. It doesn't even looks good because it's in Times New Roman.
I could have at least lived with the banners if they didn't take up half the page. MAYBE if they were like 40px tall. But this is horrible.

Brad, we are just upset because the site has gone to hell since VBForums sold out. You have a forum here that was built by it's members. You have nothing without the experience developers that frequent it. Doing dumb crap like putting links that don't fit and adds that take up half the page will lose you these valuable members.
What happens when they all leave? You are stuck with 300 newbie developers that are all asking "how can i make a VB app that runs my television over a wireless network, I have been coding for 3 minutes, and can you post the code?" Do you really think AMD will still want to put their odd sized add on?
Tell who ever you have to that is responsible and can make things happen to think before they do dumb things. Heck, maybe ask some members to check it out first. There are hundreds of people on this board willing to help make this site useable.

Anyone that has IE6 that blocks cookies, double click the red icon that shows up on the status bar. That VBWire table is genereated by JavaScript, and it looks like that script is also writing cookies for a third party.
They appear to be - I've not checked every page, but they are on all the ones I have checked.Quote:

Soon we might be in Developer.com Forums (now incorporating VBForums).
It still looks like pure ****. At least center the table when it's supposed to "take up the whole space." Because it doesn't take up the whole space.
And the ad on the side looks like pure ass.

They eliminated the gold page layout because the creators were not being given credit and didn't want to see a commercialized piece of **** using their layout. Simple really.
About the VB Wire News. Why not make that table two columns, and then put the links in both columns that way it takes up less space on the page. And may be make it the width of the browser or get rid of it all together. Also, remove the extra lines above and below it so there is minimal white space, and shrink the font to about 3px so that it's not as visible. No one's gonna click it anyway.
Note: I will never click an ad on this site, no matter if it interests me or not. I don't want to make you guys think you are getting something out of them. :rolleyes:
Everyone. I found a way to block the stupid vbwire stuff.
add this line to your hosts file:
For Windows 95/98 users:Code:127.0.0.1 vbwire.com
search for a hosts file. It should be hosts.sam unless you have edited it previously. Save it without an extension using notepad. Or download the attached HOSTS.ZIP and extract it.
Windows NT/2000/XP users
add the line to C:\Winnt\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS
or download the zip file attached and extract it.
The attached zip file blocks a whole lot of different ad servers so it works well while surfing and speeds it up on occasions too. :)

To your HOSTS file.

You say your the point man in charge of all\some of the fourms Jupiter Media own and run. But when an employee or someone with the responsibility to change something on the site does so you say you no nothing about it? And blame someone else?
We dont care about who did it or why they did it we just know that it degrades the quality of the site, looks awful and looks disorganised. And we know that your the point man so you have to fix it.
And i might add until you added that bright green CPU PLanet add it was looking good but once again you and your staffs overwhelming graphical design talent comes to the fore.
Just so you know we arent objecting to the adds just the shocking layout.
Also as others have mentioned it is totally unproffesional to test something on a live site! Test it on your own pc first perhaps??
As for style sets same goes if you dont want people to use them then dont make them available to be used.
Just out of interest when is Jupiter Media going to cut the shady crap??
