As far as world powers go, America is number one and there is no number two. I think almost all anti-American sentiment is rooted in a bitter jealousy over this fact.

Did I hear that some one here was putting forth the proposition that America was mistreating those poor Taliban prisoners? If so, I would be glad to help put things in perspective for whoever it is who may be intellectually dishonest enough to actually buy the bull**** being spewed forth from some of those communist anti-American newspapers.

I don't recall supporting the Taliban. I do remember telling you that you're a ****** for thinking they all had something to do with S11, or that bombing the whole country was a reasonable reaction to a single attack by a limited group.

On the one hand, you bomb the **** out of a country, and on the other, you get up Australians for not willingly taking in all the refugees that sort of crap caused. (Americans that is, I don't know that you've brought up the refugee thing, but plenty of stupid yanks have...)

America & Allies (including OZ) invade, defeat Taliban government forces. Captured prisoners sent to Cuba denied POW status legal representation, are tortured (deprevation), and generally mis treated.

Many non US newspapers point out this is prehaps lowering yourself to the Talibans level, and forgetting about democracy yadda yadda yadda

UN protests about treatment, Brit government protests etc etc

Oh and your Pres convenes military tribunals outside the normal legal systems of your country.

That's about it so far.

Actually what l have been pointing out pre Sep 11th except for attacking Britian etc. Now nice and loud THE TERRORIST GROUPS BASED IN AFGHANISTAN ATTACKED SEP 11TH, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF TALIBAN BEING INVOLVED.

To be honest, America has always actively involved itself in supporting pro-american groups in various countries. It often never occured to them that by supporting these groups they might incite stern anti-american sentiments with the rest of the population of that country.
They've actively funded rebel fighters and terrorist groups and used drug money to cover their expenses.
Now they are surprised that their somewhat less apropriate tactics backfire for once.
Don't get me wrong, I feel deeply sorry for the victims of the WTC. I also happen to feel deeply sorry for the innocent children that died of starvation and lack of medicine in Iraq for example due to the American embargo.
I cannot, however, feel any form of pity for America, the Institution (i.e. government).
If you're willing to engage in dirty politics, you should also be big enough to admit that you might have been wrong.
But then again, American politicians couldn't distiguish right from wrong any more than American troops could distinguish a plain roof over one with a red cross painted upon it, let alone make the difference between a civilian and an Al-Queda/Taliban soldier.

Tell me something:

• Do you agree with your countrymen funding Irish terrorists?
• Do you think it is right that it is legal for you to pay someone to murder me, my wife and my children?
• Do you in some way feel that planting a bomb in a shopping centre is not murder?
• Do you think that your country is in a position to preach about terrorism while funding terrorists to murder your allies?

You know what the problem is? I don't think the outcry is really being properly heard about the attrocities perpetrated on these poor Taliban prisoners. In fact, what I suggest is that all of the great European liberal minds gather together at the headquarters of the Sunday Mirror and have a massive press conference to lambast the evil Americans for their improper treatment of these poor souls. Americans are Gung-ho "we have guns and we know which end to point at people" - "couldn't give a **** about anyone cos we are so great and powerful and if you say anything bad about us we will kill you."

Also, this suggestion that the U.S. supports the IRA is totally ludicrous! We have never elected any national leaders that have even hinted at the IRA being justified in it's actions!

And if you want to blame a nation if you think Irish Americans are funneling money to the IRA, well, for lack of a better word, that's just dumb. It's a free country, we can't prevent anyone from sending the IRA money, but I bet you my life if you took a poll 90% of Irish Americans would disagree with the tactics of the IRA.

You might have noticed the main thrust of the thread has changed to debating the Americans' ongoing financial and moral support for the Irish terrorists who, as I have pointed out, have murdered over 3,000 of us of the past 30 or so years. The only problems I have with America are that this still goes on, and it is still legal.

It's been proven. I am surprised you didn't called it a commie tabloid. The government doesn't support the IRA, no one has ever said that (i think) so I don't know why you are assuming that. It was said I believe that the US gov. ALLOWS it to go on. There are lots of Irish Americans out there supporting these terrorists who have killed lots of people over too long a period.

How do you think the USA would react if there was a terrorist group killing civilians in your country. And what if this was being funded by donations within the UK?
