at it.
WaterMapper.Zip
OK what I do not understand is than I open AGeofempire and the graphic are the same......
when do you think it will the next beta
I exploited the AoE engine to give me that map. I wanted to get started on the code. After I get through the fighting, im going to create my own engine to make the maps.Quote:

I do that, then I export the frames of the character to a folder and name them correctly. I do 6 to 8 frames per direction. And then my Character Compiler looks through the folder, looks for files by name, it they start like 'Walk_N" that is a image of the person walking north. Then it takes the images, clips dead area off of them (areas that the characters never touch) and then it blackens the resisted colors to pure black so DX will worth with them. And puts them in a CHR file.
wow souds complicated
That was the easy part. Did you see the code to draw the map.Quote:

Its divided into tiles.
I uploaded it, its on the first reply in this thread.
There is a map in the default folder that you can use
with it. Its call maps.bmp.
When you pick the map nothing will happen. Thats
normal, and then a minute or so later, when it gets
done. It will say so, and this you will see the frames
in the root folder.
That is fantastic
Pld man cant wait for the next release
Thanks! next beta should be out in 2-3 weeks.Quote:

ya thats true
When I give you guys the new beta it wont be buggy =)
Oh, and about the FPS. Most new AGP cards have a max about which is 75. I just went and bought a TNT2 AGP 32mb card, maxes out at 75, my 16mb voodoo3 PCI did 125. But the TNT2 is twice as fast.
So im gonna put that cap on the game to make it max at somewhere between 40 and 75. I dont know where to put it though....
well you should have a thread in the forum project.
lol goodQuote:

I taught myself DX, Its not to bad. Goto planet source code and look for examples. Just try to build your code off one of those.Quote:

The water used a application I made. Its not really moving water its just a VB trick. I looked for the blue pixels and randomly offseted them, so it appeared to be fading in and out. I uploaded that code. Look to my first post, there is a link that says 'water mapper'
awww thats ok i dont like to play games like that on the net
I have a question about DirectX, I already wanted to learn it but you need to many code just to do a little animation, Evan, do you understand all code or you are copy and pasting than modifiing the code ? Or you know all and you make your own code now ?
Actually, a bit of both. Im not great with it yet. But I understand all of it. It just took me awhile to understand it.Quote:

Yeah it takes alot of time, and more code... but the results are 50 times better. Its well worth learning!
Yes you are right because your game look very well :)
Do they make books on how to program DirectX in VB? I dont know C++ yet..i only know the very basics of c++. I dont know Win32 programming.
I dont know.. I made my project off of this example.Quote:

Its the easiest one, because it uses subs to load DX.
So then you have to remember alot less code =)
Wow..impressive...
(I love you)
Danielle :)
Great, I suppose than you have take the exact same code to know the FPS because I have still 120.5 fps :)
hehe hi! How are you doing?Quote:

evan how did you make that map though?
Hey babe!
Wow..I am VERY impressed. I just saw the screen shot. I REALLY love it....keep it up. I can wait to see the finished product..
I love you!
Dayo:D
Yes he did it but he took graphic of age of empire.Quote:

Note:
THe map is tiled, they are tiles of 256x256.
If you ever make a game you cannot use larger tiles, they
will have errors on some computers!
ya like he has a house tile a grass tile ect (i think)
ok um...i kinda asked..how you made that map...did you use a special program or something?
no no no. One big map, split into tiles. Then they are tiled over the screenQuote:

I made a program to take a backround, and then you can make objects, and paths. Then it cuts up the backround into the tiles, and places all of those and the Objects and Paths into one file.Quote:

You get something to make your map, and then you put invisible object barriers like 'walls', and then you test to see if the sprite is in one or not.
ooo ok thats the first time ibve heard of that 1 :)
