There's something weird going on over here with advertising. They seem to think that if they slap the word European on it, Canadians/Americans will think that it must be trendy and buy it.
I often wonder if there's a group of teleshoppers somewhere who have never left their country, who imagine that everyone in Europe is incredibly sophisticated and stylish..... boy are they in for a shock when they visit Glasgow:)
E.G. Alberto shampoo. From the salons of Europe. Okay, it could be from a pokey wee salon in Berwick-upon-tweed. And they have this smarmy guy on going "my name? 'tis Alberto..." oh, very cool.:(
Car ad: Styled in Europe. ... So. Why no ship the designer out here. Wouldn't that have been easier.
The dusting glove: Join the sensation thats sweeping Europe.... Nobody I've spoken to back home has heard of it, so it must be very quietly sweeping Europe. I don't believe it's meant to be a pun either:)
What is this obsession???
Are there teleads over there with people saying "Join the sensation thats sweeping America", I bet they are.
Also, while I'm ranting. All the telesales people have a strong BBC english. Obviosuly this must be a trusted accent that makes people buy things.
Sorry. I'll stop ranting now. Teleshopping - better than any comedy program.
