Hi
Congratulations, very, very, very good !!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
The about.com bar has got to gooooo.
chrisjk - Vb has to talk to About because they are providing advertising to this site now...(they need some money)
Thats why they have to talk to them.
I hope the vb square style will remain as it is. I have a slow connection and the vbsquare style is much quicker to use and more pratic. The VBworld style is too saturated with links and things which don't have to do with the forum.
Btw, the IE crashed two times when I was loading the vbworld page and I now have too many "The server is too busy at the moment" messages!!
You have done a great job, but for me it doesn't work well with my connection.
Can the users' list go back to the top?
Small things came first.
Damn server too busy! I just tried to reply to this post, and it took me 7 refreshes to get to the reply page. I don't like this new layout. I liked the links on the left, and the content on the right. It was better because I didn't have to scroll up and down the page to find stuff. The about.com banner junk at the top kills the whole color scheme. I also try to stay away from About.com "recommended sites". Usually when I do a search for stuff on the major search engines, if it brings up an About.com site, I just skip it. I can't stand the ads, but I know you need revenue to keep the server up with the load it handles. I'd rather have the old style better. Less "server too busy" messages and quicker access to the stuff I use. I'm going to take zmerlinz's advice and change my settings to the vbsquare style. That's just my $.02.
Lol, everyone's switching to the VB Square style right now, that's probably why the server is busy most of the time ;)
(and I'm one of the people who has switched, the more I opened the old style, the more it annoyed me)
I do like the contents of the site a lot, and I know the About.com part probably has to be added to keep the server running, but I would like to see it more integrated...
Exactly..like I posted before (Look Up)
http://forums.vb-world.net/attachmen...&postid=323149
Pic of a nicer version...that red bar at the top makes it seems "cheap" ABout should let you alter it slightly...
leave the About.com logo but color the red bar and fill in the rest..
New COmplaint:
When the Screen scrolls WAY off to the right.
and you are in the Reply Screen...
then buttons are way off the screen..
can you set these buttons to be Left Aligned?
I preferred having the members logged-on list at the top...............since you're asking:)
as usual katie , you and me think exactly the same thing. Now that is impressive telapathy over 3000 miles ;)Quote:

I've taken the plunge to VB Square. It's so mcuh fresher and less cluttered. Soz John/James, but according to my poll over in Chit Chat (vote now!!), at this moment everyone prefers the old style!Quote:

I like the new change it makes it look more compact. I also noticed that Netscape loads the pages much faster. who knows it may have been me. I don't like the fact that the links are gone from the left. now it is like they are hidden and we have to go find them. I also agree with the logo. if you are going to change the whole layout, might as well change the logo too.
anyway, kudos John/James
Scoutt
I like the forums at least, they are easier to read.
:p Very coooool!!!!!
You got my vote, at first I preferred the side bar with all the links down the left side, but I've got used to this & it's easy to get around the site still
One thing I would put is the User CP, register etc buttons in the top right - not sure if you altered these, or whether it's the changes but they look smaller.
Apart from that great !

Yuck... I've seen lots of banner/advertisement tactics, but I must say that About.com is one of the more hideous implementations.
I definitely prefer the old VB-World.
i liked it better with the naked midgets and oil wrestling...err...sorry wrong site.
Probably couldn't convince About to go with a blue banner could ya? that might help
In that case, screw About.com and go with someone else. They must be queueing up to sponsor such a cool site:cool: ;)
Since we already have a choice of vb-world or vb-square, maybe someone could just add a third option that is like "VB-World Classic"?
problems ..plz help. I have got a database in Access and one of the field is PretechJobNo with I assigned as number in data type. the following is the code to get all other fields on the flexgrid once I key in the value for pretechJobNo.
Private Sub cmd_sch_prt_Click()
Dim prt As Integer
prt = InputBox("input Pretech Job Number ...")
Data2.RecordSource = "select PretechJobNo, cameraNo," & _
"DateIn,Location,FaultDescription,Service, " & _
"Comments from Cam_sevice " & _
"where PretechJobNo = '" & prt & "'"
Data2.Refresh
End Sub
But I get the following error:
run time erroe 3464
data type mismatch in criteria expression.
this works ok is prt is string as datatype....please show me the correct technique on this...
thanks
Does this look like a database forum?? Post the question in the afore-mentioned forum, then someone may be able to help you.;)Quote:

Id like it alot better without the ads.
I think that's an excellent idea, the third option for the way the sites done - vbworld classic, vbworld new, vbsquare
James / John : one thing, you put the private messaging info at the bottom of the forums screen. I like the idea of seeing this as the first option above all the forum links, any chance of moving this one back up please ?
Looks like John's efforts have gone in vain thanks to James!
j/k, no offence to both these, but the cool colouring scheme is GONE!!!
I would go with the old setup any time.
.
looks nice :) i think the forum pages would look better if they were centered though, rather than being tucked away to the left.
I think this new look is confusing  Just scroll to top of the page and target your eyes in the middle of it. It just looks annoing, too much different colors, it's all put into too many places.
I know design things are hard. You can take a look into my big site, http://fan.theonering.net/kontu/ and see how I've managed with over 100 pages. Though, the site is in Finnish and mainpage has a little bug. Anyways, I think it's much clearer than what this site is atm.
Of course I don't have advertisements in there, no banners and such which would make my life harder
It's just in a first glance, but it looks great. Gives a much better vieuw and doesn't feel so , how do you say it (rommelig)???, messy.
It's right to the point and has a more mature look. I grow and VB grows with me!!!!
Well done boys!!!!
;) :p :D
I'm really not a fan, but if it's going to provide income for the site, then its a good thing.
I'll just have to like it or lump it...
The page is great but is there any chance of the server not being too busy to handle my request?
To be honest it looks ok. The only thing that i do not like is things moving around to much.
I agree with therob. Please! Whether it is a bandwidth or resources problem, please fix it! I love the forum, i hate those error messages!!!
It looks great! Nice graphics and design! Nice light colors!
Good job! :D
I kinda like it, the day I started using the site after the new design I'm getting everything done, too. Maybe it's lucky?
Look wonderfull.. :D
I would put the logon section on top (IMHO). I think that putting it on the top would "accelerate" my login...
Keep up the excellent work... You guy's are great!
:D From a totally happy guy
I prefer the old design but I'll live with the new one 'til I get used to it. I'm more concerned about the Server too busy messages which are a real PIA.
Can't complain too much 'cos you generally do a very good job, even if you don't respond to e-mails:(
Cheers,
P.
Hey - James - reply to the thread you started !!!!
Also, let's move on with this logo contest - start a new thread in Chit Chat for it I think... but I doubt they'll change it - I tried a few months ago, and Karl got back to me saying that they wouldn't change it because it was so recognisable already... ?
How about the same logo just spice it up a little.
Kinda like vb IDE and VI IDE same interface just that VB IDE is spiced up.

Good design, much more organized. The only problem with it is that the left side now seem empty, as if something belongs there. Maybe its just that I visit this site too many times!!!! Oh, also in Netscape 4.7 (my one at least) you can't see the user cp, register, and all that stuff above. Oh, and one last thing: if you look at psc you can see that it loads the search thing at the top, then the rest. That would be nice here. Thats all!!!
Could just clean up the logo and leave it as it is, but cleaner and clearer.
