Cander: My favourite game ever: Secret of Mana (SNES, 8 bit :D)
I assume you need some good weapons and ship to be an effective pirate. Tonight will be my first time playing, so I am hoping not to run into any! :( At least until i get my piloting skills as good as they were in Allegiance. In Allegiance I as in a Heavy Interceptor vs 6 fully jacked out Fighters once..and I killed 4 ..the other 2 ran away..teehee! No lieing..Im serious! I loved the interceptor..it was the shizot!
:D
Secret of Mana was an excellent RPG..But you meant 16 bit right?? ;)
I'm trying to finish the Zelda Mask of Zamora game on Nintendo. My kid's hog the Nintendo so I don't get to do it very often though so it will take a while.
I play Sonic a lot on my MegaDrive emulator (Gens, if you're interested), and a demo of Hamsters on my A310...very fun and I'm sure it would appeal to many people on this board ;)
Take a look at www.red-squirrel.org if you want an Acorn emulator that's pretty good (runs about the speed of my real one).
That's also an aircraft. I know these things. Based on the Airbus A320, about 20 foot longer, a little more thrust but a few MPH slower cruising speed. Not as hardcore as an A300.Quote:

No, that's why I posted this to you :) I saw your (NES 8-bit) in the brackets - the SNES also has a 8 bit architecture :D
Hi
My first game was Tetrus for the gameboy
The best game IMHO is GT2 for the PS1 which will be beaten by the GT3 or 2000 whatever on the PS2
by the way Fox and Cander I found this on a web site

The main CPU is a 65836, which is 16-bit and runs at 3.78 MHz. This is the same cpu that is used in the Apple ][ GS. It can only use 64k RAM at a time and directly Access 16 Megs of RAM.
In English -
Basically, what it is saying is that it is an old CPU, and its SLOW. Thats why you experience slowdown in many of the games. Compared to the Genesis, their CPU was obsolete when it was released.
The Graphics Chip
Techincal Terms -
The Graphics chip is a custom chip made for the sole purpose of this console. It can do many things, such as rotation of the background, scaling, transparency, and "Mode 7." It can display 256 colors at the same time, out of a palette of 32768. It has only 128k of VRAM for displaying the color information. It also has a maximum resoloution of 512x384, but this resolution needs a monitor to display clearly. Most to all games use its default 256x256.

This is where the SNES gets its great looks. Unlike the Genesis, the SNES has the look of a Great IBM PC machine when it came out. This machine had new "keywords" that set it apart from the competition, but They started making up new ones (like the Genesis "blast processing"). It had very good color for its time, and this chip took a lot of the strain off the SNES SLOW CPU.
The Sound Chip
Techincal Terms -
The SNES has a custom chip called the SPC700(12-bit), manufactured in-house by Sony. It can handle 44KHz sound, but only can access 64k (hint-the slow CPU can only access 64k at a time). Most games render the sound at 22KHz or 11KHz to save memory. This chip also has the first wavetable synthesis to ever appear on a console. It uses 16-voices and has a stock set of General MIDI instruements.
In English -
This put the radio-quality Genesis sound far, far behind. Its greatest achievement was the inclusion of "sampled" sound. It was the first console to do so. Incendently, Sony manufuctured the sound chip to make their CD-ROM attachment called the "Playstation" {Sound Familar? :)}. But NINTENDO didi not go through with the Sony Cd-ROM, because it wanted to have all the profits from the system. Sony has built the first Playstation out of this setback. It was 16-bit, but it paved way for the PSX as we know it today.
In-Cart Chips
Techincal Terms -
There was a few chips that were made for the SNES that were built into the cart. The most famous was teh SuperFX chip. This chip was a basic 3d-accelerator that hadno texture-mapping features, just gourad-shaded polygons. It can render 30,000 polygons in a second, and rotate and bend the polygons wherever they please. The chip ran at 7.18 MHz. The other well-known chip was the DSP chip. Manufuctured by NEC, this chip optimized calculations and ran faster than the SNES CPU. Capcom also made some chips for its X-line (Mega Man). These were like the Super FX, but were highly optimized for Side Scrollers. It was clalled the C4, and it just optimized the Vector Graphics and Side Scrolling.
In English -
This is where the speed finally showed in second generation and third generation games. Still limited by the SLOW SNES CPU, these chips made sure the SNES could handle newer, more colorful games. Incendently, most people didn't use the SuperFX chip because of the cost. One chip was about the price of a good 3d-accelerator today!

This game might appeal to some of you:
Stroker on the Commodore.
SurfDemon and Parksie will probably know about that, and even tell you if you ask nicely enough.
I played that a lot in my teen years (and since then), but I don't ever remember needing a computer to do it :pQuote:

The first game I remember playing was that Pong game on the tv with the really sad controllers. Showing my age now.
Best game in my opinion is HalfLife.
Command & Conquer Red Alert is a close second.
Oh, and my fav game on the Amiga is Cannon Fodder.
System Shock is a fantastic game. Never managed to work out how to get onto the security level, though.
I forgot about System Shock. I've got System Shock 2 and it's the scariest and hardest game I've ever played. But it was bloody good!!!
I'd have to say Freespace 1 is the best game ever...fantastic storyline, and on a DVD the graphics were amazing!
can't remember my first game.
anyone seen the new game ORB? my friend just got it, looks amazing :cool:
System Shock 2 was fun to play, especially cooperatively.
When SHODAN randomly popped up I jumped on countless occasions :DQuote:

Hmmm....The first ever game I had for my first ever computer was "Roland in the caves" on the Amstrad CPC664. That was a classic game...I would love to play that again.
My top games of all time would have to be:
Amstrad - "Sorcery +" and "Roland in the Caves"
Amiga - "Dungeon Master", "Second Front" and "Powermonger"
PC - "Civilisation" and "Age of Empires".
- 1st Game played: Space Invaders.
- 1st Game bought (NES): Mega Man.
- Best games in no particular order:
Castle Vania (NES);
Mega Man (NES);
Dizzy (ZX Spectrum);
Karnov (ZXS);
Atomic Runner (arcade);
Doom (PC);
Final Fantasy 7 (PS);
Tekken 3 (PS);
Colin McRae (PS);
Dead or Alive (PS2);
Aggresive Inline (PS2);
Virtua Fighter 4 (PS2).
Doom
It may not hold up today but it was the first first person game to really set the standard.
Bounder on th C64 (yup...that old) and Elite.
Yeah, doom was great (should have been on my list) but what about Dungeon Master? OK, it didn't animate properly but it was a really good game for the time...Quote:

The first I can remember playing was Baby Bouncers... goodness how politically incorrect that is =).
Best game ever... Depends on criteria. If I had to choose one, I owuld put down Diablo (the original, 2 sucked nuts), for its insane replay value (an easy 3 years, and i still get cravings that must be squashed).
Z.
First : Q-bert for Atari. Never really grasped the point of the game, though.
Best : Space Quest 3, and 4 (4 for the humor, but the point-and-click crap sucked)
:)
I'm partial to Dogde'em on the Atari.
Asteroids and missle command were both played to death.
good times, good times.

Wow it took two minutes
TTD must be one of the best games i've ever played :) only problem is the vehicle limits :( funny things i used to do was cutting the roads for competitors vehicles, build train depots over competitors train tunnels, trains that run without orders to trick the random events to avoid factories getting closed or insect infestations etc..
If ur gunna list a FF go for 9 dude...9 is 1337 45 5#33ยก7!Quote:
