No, believe it or not it did happen. For Comic Relief a few years back they had one of the presenters (Lenny Henry) racing from location to location doing reports. And to get him out of the BBC studios and to the first location they used an F1 with police escort. While everyone's oggling the car, the other presenter says something like "Of course Lenny, we couldn't get you insured for it, so we have a professional driver to cheauffer you" (it's a 3 seater), and at that point Mr. Bean ambles out smiling and waving.

Besides I believe Rowan Atckinson is a bit of a fast car nut. Didn't he crash an Aston Martin recently?

Seems I do remember test-driving my wife before I married her.........took her to a friend at a bride shop who knows these things. Found out that if I could get her for around $2000.00 down and $500.00 mo. at 9% APR OAC, I could swing it. I think I paid her off last year :)

Beacon - Nope, never saw any Holdens. Made a pretty steady livin' off those Fords though.

This was last years project. My brother bought it and we spent the winter renovating her. Unfortunately she's a bit of a dog on ice (oweing to her weighing a couple of tons.... that momentum is hard to stop) so she only comes out to play in the summer.

Even with the extra weight she's surprisingly nippy thanks to her 6.9 litre pre-catalytic converter. It's quite funny watching her outsprint boy racers at the lights, they really don't expect it in a car like this, but apparently most of them have huge amounts of power under the hood, it's just that most people don't like to thrash them.

Oh, yeah, and driven carefully you can get 10mpg out of her, floor the accelerator and that drops off surprisingly rapidly. So classy, fast and really bad for the environment, what more could you want from a car.:p

Hi, mines a 91 G plate, it has the hatch not boot, they changed that over here in 95. It's modified to around 200 BHP, with a stainless exhaust and hybred stage 1 turbo. I hope to do more in the future. The picture is not my car by the way.

Your almost right, the F1 has actually three seats with the drivers seat posistioned in the middle for the best racing view of the car, I has a V12 BMW engine producing well over 600 BHP dose 0-60 in 3.blah seconds and some of them top out at 240 MPH. The engine bay is lined with 24c gold as it makes an excellent heat reflector. There are 4 Cats, and the body and chassis is made totaly out of carbon fiber. Sady only 100 road cars where ever made, I know of three that have crashed, making a total of 93 or less on the public roads. I have only ever seen 1 in my time and it is the best car ever made.

Last November I went to a local firework display. They store touring caravans there but not only were there caravans but also Land Rovers and Range Rovers which people have bought for the sole purpose of towing their caravans 2 or 3 times a year!

Now that's what I call having a disposable income.

I would LOVE a Range Rover and Luxury touring cavavan.

My car has a flat battery.

Not any more, the jag was a flop, it cost the company millions, altough I have seen it and it is a stunning car the fast production car to date is the Lamborghini Diablo. It is still in production which what matters. There have been cars quicker than the Mcaren F1, prototype speed 12 (TVR) etc.

The most outragous car I have seen was Top Secrets modified Nissian Sky Line. It started life at a factory 280 brake, then they tuned it to 1000 BHP to break the unofficial open road top speed of 200 MPH, they failed at 193 and got caught (UK 3am on the M3). So they went back to the land of the rising sun, added 250 BHP (thats a total of 1250!!!!) and set the unofficial time of 209 MPH in one of Toyoko's long tunnels.

Yep...it's in California but I bought a Suburban this year and it always has plenty of juice in it!

We also bought a propane powered generator for home as well as have an outdoor grill so if the lights go out we're set!

There seem to be a lot of americans pointing out american cars as the ones they love which made me think and i have a few questions?

Why do you call petrol gas when it is't, its a liquid? Do you call diesel gas too?


Why most american cars have big powerful engines that give out tons of bhp by having 6 liter engines instead of just making a good but smaller engine that would go just as fast. Coz the really fast american cars can probably easily beat a european one in a drag race but from what i have head, they just cant take corners coz with those massive engines you use they handle really bad? I think the F355 has only got a 3.5 liter engine and thats amoungst the best supercars of the world.


I suppose it partly down to the fact that you hardly pay anything for fuel (compared to us who pay through the nose :mad: :mad: :mad: )

Btw, this post ist ment as an insult to USA, coz i am just repeating what i have heard and wondering if its true and if so why.

Ok - I'm not American but I can give you a quick run down on some of this.

The main reason why old style American V8s have a relatively low power for their engine capacity is that this makes for a more reliable, long lasting cheaper engine. As a rule of thumb reliability is inversely proportional to the square of engine revs so a classic old style V8 that produces peak torque (force) at 4000 rpm is going to last a lot longer than a similar quality engine at 8000 rpm.

A F355 will have a seriously expensive engine to get that power - look at the price of the car and figure up to 25% engine - with relatively short service intervals and high service costs. Fast ford engines in the UK are often only designed with a lifetime of 60,000 miles - I seem to remember that some American cars only need full services at 50,000 miles ;)

American engines are not actually all that heavy due to having relatively thin walled aluminium blocks - even something like a 1965 Thunderbird has a seven litre engine that only weight about 400lbs and developes over 400 hp (sae) - British cars with big US engines often weight less than the equivalent with a small engine (e.g. the old MGB weights 60lb less in V8 form than in four cylinder form).

its not the engines in uk ford cards that cause them be write offs. Its the body. They crumble into a big pile of rust a long time b4 the engine is knackered usually. As for having bigger engines with low power output that might save in the price of servicing etc. but surely the cost of fuel would outweight that. Even if it doest, it immorel in my opinion seen as tho its cars emmisions that are going to be a large part of the destruction of this planet.

Okay, I need some help from the Brit's here.

The Canucks are all complaining because the price of petrol/gas has shot up to 60c a litre here in Alberta. Thats about 25p Sterling, and it's all over the news and every-ones moaning, meanwhile I'm bouncing around for joy 'cause it's so bl**dy cheap.

Whats the going rate for a litre of Esso's finest homebrew these days back in blighty so I can tell these young wippersnappers they never had it so good?

it's about 75 - 80P a litre depending on where you are...

I have a Peugeot 405 1.9 GTXi G Reg (1989) with 125 BHP but i only paid £650 for it. It's a lovely drive, needs fixing though and a damn good service...:D

Ya the average for unleaded atm is about 78p a liter and about 81ish for 4*. We got 2p knocked off it a little while back (december?) by the government by bringing the country to a standstill (well the lorry drivers did). I dont think they went far enought. What was it b4 it was 25p there?

good ole American V8's have something those 4cyl's and 6cyl's don't. Torque. But the old style pushrod V8 makes more torque than any new technologically advance OHC engine, generally speaking.;)

I have a puney litle 1.1L petrol engine in my car and i have had it loaded right up on several occasions with big fat people or junk and i have never really notice a performance drop except the occastion steep hill where i had to change down in order to accelerate.

Hmmm... well, i dont know the exchange rate for pounds and the like, but its up to $1.69 around Alaska, and we are the state that has petrol coming out of damn neer every hole in the ground deep enough.
