Another big gout of nonsense.
Vista still has around 18% of Windows desktop/laptop market share, down from an earlier 24%. Windows Me never came anywhere near that level of penetration.
Windows market share actually increased over the last 2 years, and Linux has yet to reach 1% of the desktop/laptop market.
Windows 7 is not "more stable" in any meaningful way, except perhaps for the fact that vendors have finally gotten more Win 6.x drivers out at last. It is arguably less secure than Vista was due to its hiding and implicit acceptance of various levels of UAC alerts.
The whole thread seems to be nothing but a soapbox for contrarians. Linux effectively doesn't exist in the market at large.
Another big gout? I'm pretty sure there were quite a few people upset at Windows Vista. It had stability issues on some hardware (more so that XP did), hogged unnecessary amounts of RAM (7 uses less RAM than Vista while doing more), and had an overprotective UAC system, not to mention quite a bit of software had to be rewritten to work for it. If you use those points, then yes, it was one of the worst OS's ever.
Windows ME never did because it was even worse. I specifically said this was the worst (for most) since Windows ME, not overall. Never has there been an OS that broke so many things or had so many issues with hardware and software.
Yes, Windows 7 is more stable. It manages its resources better, it's more optimized, its default drivers are more stable than Vista's.
But this topic isn't about that, this is about (as has been stated) OSS and the future of it affecting the market. Your entire post seems to address that in its very last sentence. Linux exists in the market as server software mostly. I highly doubt it will be able to penetrate deep enough into the desktop world until game producers take it seriously as well as software developers.

This thread is nothing but flamebait and circular discussion and as such it is now closed.
