Don't know for sure, but I think you should receive some data on the comm port telling you they picked up.
The best way to test this is to use HyperTerminal, connect to the comm port, type the at commands to dial, then watch what data comes back when you pick up...

But i think its a little too advanced for me now. Plus I dont really understand how you got the data you got. Is that the decibels of the sound?
End goal, in my phone call I would like to be able to catch the word "Hello". Then eventually other words as well.
you will always be better off listening for electronically produced tones from the telephone system they have been created to be usable even when the line quality is poor!

I can get the tones from the user pressing a number easily. I clearly get a "/1~" or "/2~" or "/3~" etc.
But to listen for anything that sounds like "hello" or "one". I dont know. In Hyperterminal i can read the data flowing and when i say hello I can see where my voice is but no idea what to do with it or where to start analyzing it.

PALMER, the link you posted is one of my attempts to do TONE recognition, I named the thread poorly.
Tone recognition is 100 times more simple than speech recognition.
Don't try to figure out how to do speech recognition, instead try to find a control / dll / API / etc. that does it for you. You need something that you can feed the wave file and give you the words as text. A while ago I looked for something like that, and I did not find anything.
But... if all you need to know if someone is talking (there is any sound), then it should be easy to do.
I thought I had this working until i started really testing. I was using the OK response I got back as the trigger for someone answering the phone. It was working when i answered the phone. But then it was also running when i didnt answer the phone, and it's not hitting voicemail either. I get OK response while the phone is still ringing. There must be an easier or more reliable way to recognize the telephone has been answered.
