The SA-80 is, as far as I'm aware, the standard-issue assault rifle of the British military. Not the specialists, they usually use MP5s (or whatever they want I guess) I think. It was developed a few years ago in Britain, it's not American.
Here is what my grandfather always says (and i agree with him): If you outlaw guns, only the lawbreakers will have them. The upstanding citizens will cower in their homes in fear of anyone just waltzing in and taking everything they own without fear of meeting a loaded barrel pointing at them. At least now, there is the possibility in the guy's mind "If i break in there, will i come out alive?" And that is how i like it.Quote:

You don't agree with that, because it isn't what you were brought up to beleive. Your environment always has something to do with what you beleive in. If you were brought up in warm climates, you hate cold weather(well, this is true for a few people), if you were brought up in a country where guns are legal, and you have a gun, you are going to beleive you need that gun.
I don't think that anybody needs a gun. But, we want guns. We think we need them. I could just as well live without them. But I like target practicing, hunting, skeet shooting, etc. So I am not willing to give any up. But, what do I really need it for? Nothing happens in my area where I would need a gun. But as I had said before, I want guns, and in this country, it is supposedly a right that we can have them. So I will continue to keep them.
Yeah that's pretty much it. I think it's better to live without them though, because I think a primarily gun owning general population can exaggerate conflicts. Which causes problems with crime, murder, suicide, nervous breakdown, etc. It's my opinion, I'm not claiming it's true, just that I think it's true.

There is not much difference in the purpose of explosives and firearms. The only difference I see, is when explosives are used to do work, like take down a building, or remove a tree stump, etc.. But, I think the reason the government regulates explosives more than firearms, is because when you pull a trigger on a gun, you kill one person, when you detonate an explosive, it can kill thousands of people, depending on the power and placement of the charge.
You don't even need much explosive to kill thousands of people. A shaped charge of only 2 pounds can take down a nuclear power station.
You may not agree, but i know a bunch of people who were in jail for theft and this is also how they think.
A person doesnt actually have to own a gun.
The criminal just has to realize the possibility that he might.
And i should point out that USA (America is 2 continents) already has plenty of gun laws, which are already routinely broken by crooks.
You can see the effect of strict gun control in other countries. There is very little crime involving firearms in Britain for instance, or at least I don't see it or hear about it if there is. This is an old argument, I've had it before and it never ends up with any kind of agreement.
