Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
The quality of submissions this time looks much better than last time's. Good to see.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
Reventon I like your first entry a lot but I think you could have made it a little bit better if you used some photo editing software. You could have rotated it clockwise a few degrees to make the horizon line straighter and I would have perhaps cropped out the cable from the ship.
Oceanebelle I liked your entries in the last contest a lot. Not as much with this contest but they are still good. I would have entered into this contest the picture that you posted on Dec 17 where you said
Quote:
It's too bad I can't change my entries... :'(
Forgot about this one. :'(
You can always put it in the next contest if there is one.
And since I'm in my handing out advice mode right now, I Love My Vans you said you were looking for tips on how to improve your photos. I like your entries in the last contest more than in this one. Your McLaren Mercedes F1 shot I would have liked to see a wider angle on it so that I could see the whole car. You said it's one of your favorites so for you it works but if you're concerned about getting votes then it has to be desireable to other people.
I personally think you shouldn't be interested in getting votes. Give your best. Enter into the contest those pictures that you feel are your best photos but don't be concerned with results. That's my attitude. I think you'll enjoy life more that way. In other words it's just for fun. Don't take life too seriously. It's only a dream.
Here's a quote from one of my favorite spiritual writers, Vernon Howard:
As long as you desire to win you will lose even if you win. When you are consciously indifferent over winning and losing, you win.

Absolutely true, I would have prefered to have more of the car in there myself, but curcumstances prevented me from doing so, first issue was I was in a moving group of about 100 people, so me staying in the same placed for the 20 seconds I needed was difficult, second we also had people eaither side bending on to the car for photos, touching etc.
As far as I am concerned I got the best picture I could, I am aware that isn't obvious to the viewer.

belt_ferro.jpg = "End of the line."
flower2.jpg = "Millionth flower on flickr."
flower_bee.jpg = "Bee creep."
landscape_mill copy.jpg = "Rustic overfloweth."

Sending five pics shot with Panasonic Lumix FZ20
1. The monkey picture has been titled 'Simian Solitude'. The pensive look and the posture make it seem like he is worrying about something. Took about half an hour for the right moment to come.
2. The boating pic is the silhouette type. Some friends came along for a picnic and i got the shot.
3. The Sikh Bagpiper is a part of the Army Band in India and is performing at a function in full regalia.
4. The Bee on the flower (what a cliche) is titled Bee(r) Bar. Shot in a botanical garden, i was glad i could get all the detail on the bee.
5. The kid in the helmet (Dear Devil) zooms around my house on his kiddy bike, pretending he is riding the dunes of Motocross Madness. His glee was worth the shot.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
At this rate we'll be up to 100 photos in no time. I know which one I'll vote for if none of the 27 remaining entries beats it. Don't ask me which one though because I'll keep it a secret.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
I'm really struggling to make up my mind, I've got quite a few favorites.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
Loads of great pictures!
I will wait until the end to make my mind up.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
I was looking at all the entries and I noticed that abhijit had 5 pictures in his post but only 2 of the 5 pictures are shown among the 73 entries. There might be some special reason for that or perhaps someone missed something.
-
Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
Entity 'Sherlock' X, Abhijit, has edited his post to add another 3 pictures.

Thank you for pointing that out. I've added the new ones but wouldn't otherwise have know about it since no subscription notification is sent when someone edits a post.

From looking at anhn's post I'm in question as to whether anhn took those pictures. I noticed tag in lower right of first picture. Anhn did you take both of those pictures? It says in the rules for the contest that you can only enter pictures that you took yourself. If you did then I'll shut up and try to mind my own business.
There may have been a misunderstanding about the rules and he and I are talking about them.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
If I had a better memory then I would have remembered that abhijit's post originally only had 2 pictures. And I've now become aware of the edit button that exists for your own posts. I wasn't previously aware that you could edit your own posts.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
Sorry I was a bit over the top, it just seemed a bit guilty until proven innocent, if you know what I mean. Your photos are excellent by the way.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
Umm.. Id like to enter some pictures. They arent the best, by a long shot, and the cameras they were taken on arent great either, but oh well..
Snowy Munros
I thought id take a picture of what i was about to climb, for this one, as it looked quite a feat.
Ben Nevis
I liked the proportions of the person above the snow and the amount of snow at the cliff
Wicked Wind
How the wind had shaped the snow at the top of Ben Wyvis, and also the snow thrown up in the air by a gust of wind
Dreary Day
My most recent Munro, had only just stopped raining for the first time in a good 4 hours when i took this
Flower Of Scotland
Again, from my most recent Munro, i liked the colours of the thistle.
The pictures were all taken by me between 2005 and present day. I climb Munros as a hobby, so i always get a good opportunity to take some pictures.

The mountains in Scotland are fantastic. If you get the weather, it would be hard to find some nicer scenery!

What did I just do? I created a yahoo account so I could have a free flickr page. Did you ever notice that sometimes people change their minds.
here's my flickr page:

I'm displaying some of the computer art that I created as well as photos. All the computer art you see on my flickr account I used Windows Paint to create.
Back when I said what was in the quote I didn't know about the Click Here link in post #1 to view the entries. If I did I wouldn't have been complaining like that.

Re: It's Photo Contest Time Again!
That's what makes it interesting. The reaction on their faces I think is sort of interesting. Another answer I could give to your question is, why not.
