The slowness of my NetZero "HiSpeed" connection blows you guys away. See if you can beat this degree of slowness.

wow. that.... sucks
something fishy there. You have a faster upload.Quote:

When I download stuff off the internet the transfer rate is typically around 5 kb/s. That works out to 300 kb/minute and 18 mb/hour. Sometimes it's closer to 6 kb/s.
There isn't any cable internet offerred where I live that I'm aware of. And you can't get dsl where I live either. You have to go with either satellite or wireless to get high speed internet. I've been doing some internet surfing to try to find an alternative to the internet I have but after I punch in my address it always says that there isn't any service available in my area. Verizon doesn't offer high speed internet in my area and they take care of my phone line so I'm not going to get high speed internet via phone service from anyone else.
I live out in the California desert about 50 miles south of Palm Springs. I'm not ready to pay $ 45 a month for satellite internet. I saw one offer from NetZero for satellite internet at $ 62 a month. I can actually do ok with the service I have since I don't download a lot of stuff. It would be nice to have the pages load quicker though.

I'm really ripping now. I've picked up a whole 2 kb/s!
Lord Orwell you have my ping figure beat with 307 ms as well as the dudes out in Copenhagen (Kregg and Atheist) both at 295 ms. NightWalker83 wins the contest for the lowest ping at 20 ms.
Congratulations! You've got a speed that just beats the speed of a turtle! How do you feel?Quote:

I have a lot of free time so if I have to download a 300 MB service pack and it takes me 24 hours it's no big deal. I can still work on my computer while I'm downloading.
If in the future I can get faster internet for $ 20 a month or less then I'd likely go for it. Right now it's either what I've got or something like $ 45 a month or more so I'll take what I got. Verizon offers high speed internet for $ 20 a month or less but they don't offer the service where I live unfortunately. It wouldn't be anything like the service Lord Orwell has but it would be a step up from what I have now.
To be honest, if they gave you internet connection from a dead badger, that would be a step up from what you have now.

NightWalker83's ping figure of 20 ms is now beat by NickThissen's ping of 12 ms. Anyone who does the test is revealing their whereabouts to a certain degree. We know NickThissen that you live not too far from Eindhoven or perhaps in Eindhoven which is in the Netherlands.
The first time I did the test it gave a server location of Los Angeles and said for distance < 50 mi. That is quite a bit off. Los Angeles is right around 150 miles in a straight line from where I am. The second test was closer since it said ~ 100 miles. Nevertheless anyone who does the test reveals their location to a certain degree.
That's right, according to Google Maps I live 64,5 km from Eindhoven (measured over the road, which is about 46 min drive)
Funny that the website offered Dusseldorf as the preferred location (gold triangle), but according to Google Maps that is 64,6 km away, lol. I got around 20 ms ping on that.
Just tried it again...Quote:

And yes, I am being serious this time. :D
This is what I get when I select the furthest possible triangle I could find lol:

Ping is still 210 which is apparently not too bad, seeing as how other people get pings much higher with distances much closer...
What Internet package do you have?
I see that if you select a triangle that is a good distance from where you live then the test won't reveal where you are. Here's a test where I selected a server in New Zealand.

Check out that ping figure.
620 ms ping that's too low. I thought I'd see if I could get that up some and I've succeeded.

Ping and distance are up there. That's Mumbai, India.
I haven't been able to beat 12ms, but if i use a different server than recommended, i can nearly match it.

That's a decent ping for that range.
I've just switched ISP. Although we are connecting at around half the 8MB service speed, actual performance has improved about 70%. I am certain my old ISP were using some kind of traffic shaping and I was getting a raw deal . Not that they would admit that.
i am sure mine limits traffic on default sharing ports. I changed my settings to random ports and the performance of bittorrent has increased a dozenfold.Quote:

Happy to live in the country of the free ISP where they don't bother your downloads :D
I just upgraded my Netzero service to 3G. I was paying 9.95/month. 3G is 14.95/month. Page loads are noticeably faster. New test shows significant improvement.
http://www.vbforums.com/images/ieimages/2008/12/1.png
Before using 3G my download was 47 Kb/s and upload was 282 Kb/s. I noticed that when I download something the first couple minutes the transfer rate is much better but it eventually settles down to the same speed that I had with the less expensive Netzero service.
The test's 45kb/s that is displayed isn't kilobytes per second; it is kilobits per second. Your browser displays things in kilobytes per second.Quote:

1 kilobyte = 8 kilobits.
So the test is saying you download stuff at 5 to 6 kilobytes per second, which is inline with your browser download speeds.
Hehehe.... your speeds are teh sux.

Average Download: 5145kb/s
Average Upload: 622kb/s
I'd said those tests are pretty damn consistent even though I used diff servers for each.
