Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
You mean like that Democrat who managed to be elected president twice without ever coming to terms with the english language? And sent hundreds of american soldiers to their deaths to 'liberate' the hell out of a sovereign nation? Oh wait, that was a Republican.. And he never said he was sorry..

I refuse to be drawn into yet another endless argument over Iraq.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
Not really, of course. We only ever follow a single path through time (as far as we know), and can only speculate on what would have happened had a different path been taken.
I would have mentioned the president with the database of his 900 lies that were used to try to influence the country to get behind a war. I might also have mentioned the line of anti-gay demagogues who turned out to be using gay hookers or some such (three in the last year alone). Of course, there is ol' "wide stance", but if that surprised you, then you haven't been paying attention. At least he's normally been discreet, so there have only been stories.
We could mention plenty of others on both sides, because power still corrupts. If I was elected president, I'd have some high priced gals on the staff, just for conversation, but then, I'm single, so I can say that.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
So now the republicans are calling for impeachment if he doesn't resign. I live on the other side of the country, and don't keep track of NY politics very much, but I was under the impression that Ghouliani had a mistress while he was married and the governor. So what are the republicans so upset about? Are they just anti-capitalism (it's ok if it's free), or is this just hypocritical politics as usual. Look the other way if he's in your party, call for impeachment if he isn't.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
Bill Clinton comes to mind. A shining moment in American politics.
But, as I am sure you know, this will be about his self-righteousness. Something about glass houses and rocks.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
Dershowitz wasn't so much supporting the soon-to-be-ex-NY-gov.
My read on that interview was that misdemeanor offenses that are "naughtly" make good news and turn into our "story" of the week.
Misdemeanor offenses are not impeachable.
Driving while drunk? Impeach him.
Failure to stop and render aid after accident? Impeach him.
Indecent, insulting, or obscene language communicated directly or by telephone to another person? Impeach him.
Unlawful use of long-distance telephone calling card? Impeach him.
This is just stupid.
He did a really bad thing to his family. He didn't do a really bad thing to the people of NY.
Do you expect every john that picks up a hooker to be fired from their job?
Of course from his Mr. Moral Highground position he has fallen - and fallen hard. For that he should resign in my opinion.
And then of course the real laws that were broken...
Quote:
The investigation started when a bank tipped off the IRS that Spitzer was suspiciously moving money from accounts he controlled. A probe found he was not paying bribes but hiding payments for sex, a law enforcement source said.
That's a felony - and he goes to prison for 20 years and had better resign.

Having a mistress isnt illegal, using hookers on the other hand is.

I remember reading about the supposed 900 lies thing. Apparently its not 900 individual “lies” it’s the 900 times that Bush claimed that Saddam had WMD as one of the justifications of going to war.
Of course we know that all during the Clinton administration he also used WMD as a justification to bomb Iraq. This includes countless Senators and Representatives all leading up to the Iraq war. Not sure if using the best intelligence information you have at the time constitutes a lie or not, but it seems for some on the left that it’s good enough for them, hence the supposed 900 “lies” claim.

Funny, but that's pretty much what I thought was shocking about the whole story. She's gotta be really good, or at least bring some friends for that kind of cash.
As for the whole cheating on your wife/politician thing, I think there should be a grading system. I mean Clinton should have been kicked out for the whole Monica Lewinski thing, not because he was cheating, but because he was cheating with a fat ugly bird. Same goes for Prince Charles.... what was he thinking with Camilla? If that had been a supermodel, nobody would have had any problem with it. So I propose a sliding scale based on how good looking the other woman is. Of course, this makes it pretty bad for the senators picking up fat old cops in the mens washroom at airports.... but that's the price you pay.
Is there anyone I haven't offended with this post yet?

What do you thinks going to change in another 50 years? They will suddenly discover WMD there, realise that Osama Bin Laden was hiding in Baghdad all along and that the head of the UN will confess he was lying when he said he didn't believe that individual nation states had the right to decide to exact punishment on behalf of the UN without the approval of the council...... you can live in hope.
Or of course, maybe you're just hoping we all forget about it. :)

Only a fraction of them are about WMD, but I don't know what fraction.

In fairness, it wasn't just Bush, but Colin Powell etc as well. But I found the following count.
Quote:
On at least 532 separate occasions (in speeches, briefings, interviews, testimony, and the like), Bush and these three key officials, along with Secretary of State Colin Powell, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, and White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Scott McClellan, stated unequivocally that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (or was trying to produce or obtain them), links to Al Qaeda, or both. This concerted effort was the underpinning of the Bush administration's case for war.

Sounds good to me. It does speak to Spitzer's good sense that he had enough taste to at least go for the type of woman who could command that level of payment in order to be with her. I checked out a few websites and the going rate appears to be around $200-300 for an hour (plus, of course, the $2000 needed to buy a new computer after my wife saw me looking up hookers and smashed the laptop over my head). You've got to figure it's a major babe that can charge those rates.

As the old saying goes - If you see a street hooker that's reasonably good looking she's either a cop or a man. Good-looking prostitutes have no need to walk the streets.
Not that I would know anything about such things...

Wouldn't it be easier for you just to hang around in gay bars if you want to pick up good looking men? :ehh:

according to the site he got her off of, that's one of the low-end ones.

I guess I need to rephrase that so our slower members can understand.
If you see a street hooker that's reasonably good looking she's either a cop or a man in drag.

maybe they don't prosecute things in the united states (which are stoning offenses in other countries) such as adultery. But maybe if they did, more marriages wouldn't end in divorce. One site i just visited stated the one-third of divorce litigation is caused by on-line affairs. I am sure there's a larger statistic if you include the real ones.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
Did anyone see the photos of the girl that were published today? She wasn't bad looking, but not really a stunner. I'd have paid $250/hr tops. The governor got gypped.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
There is a joke about a guy offering a woman money to have sex with him. He offers her a million dollars and she agrees. He then tells her that now that they both know what she is, he'd like to barter over the price.
something like that...

It's George Bernard Shaw. The actual quote is:
Shaw: Would you sleep with me for $1 million?
Woman: Sure I would
Shaw: Would you sleep with me for $10?
Woman: Of course not! What kind of woman do you think I am?
Shaw: We've already established that. Now we're just haggling.

Mmmm. Back to my sliding scale of punishment based on shaggability. I think, given how cute she is that he should have been let off completely scot free if he didn't have to pay, but as you say, he certainly paid over the odds, so there has to be demerit points for that.
Unlike Tom here, I have no idea what the going rate for a prostitute is, but I do have to think that if you can't find a cute one who's willing to do you for less than $3,000 then you must be one ugly dude.
Apart from all that, I do actually feel really really sorry for the lass invovled. Sure, you expect to run the risk of being caught and maybe getting a day in court somewhere, but you don't anticipate getting your picture on the front page of every US news station, having all your friends, family, ex-classmates, future employers etc. all know that you are a prostitute.... poor lass. :(

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
DO NOT FEEL SORRY FOR THIS GIRL! Her song has been downloaded over a million times now (she gets something like $0.70 a pop) and Penthouse magazine is offering her megabucks to... do something or other...
She is now on easy street.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
Most women who get into that profession don't do it for fun, and the majority come from a history of abuse, so she's probably never had it easy, and this won't really change anything.

Re: Mr. Moral Highground - Busted
Fortunately for her, the RNC convention is in a few months.
I imagine there won't be a lack of people there who wouldn't pay premium rates to boff the girl who took down a powerful Democratic governor.
This is a remarkable business opportunity for the young lady.
