That is correct. It is launch day here in Detroit, and as the launch is happening right across the street from where I'm currently working, I've been popping in and out most of the morning. I was disappointed when I found out about what they were actually giving away, but, I have the good stuff from my MSDN subscription.

Can you confirm the give aways? I verified from the presentation slide show at San Fransisco that I watched last night.

Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
Yes, but it was mentioned that they will be making some versions available for free for a limited time. I dont think these are the same as the version given out to those that actually attend or you could just stay home and download the software. Not much incentive to go if it was that way.
Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
Well I can't go, so I'll asume it only trail versions :p

What I saw being handed out was VS 2005 Standard. I didn't see what, if anything, folks were getting for either SQL Server or BizTalk, but I don't thing SQL Server 2005 is ready for production, so Beta makes sense to me.
Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
Yes, the launch and the actual release are two different things. Oh well, I wont install the SQL Betta as I have it coming in my next quartly update from MS. So I should get the RTM version of 05 Standard.
Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
Also, the SQL Beta version probably doesnt have SQL Reporting Services.
Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
I don't care about the SQL Server version myself..(still a foolish DB2 Lover here) but the Standard version of VS 2005 would save me 200 bucks. And I don't think I need more than Standard anyhow.
I got an apologetic reply back, (Along with an "Oops.. we're sorry, you should have gotten to go now that I look at your Conf. number, our bad") and the lady said she'd get back to me this week about if she can get the software to me.
slightly OT - Does anyone know from past experience how the "Upgrade" versions work (in case I do have to buy it) I Would probably at some point want to reformat and use whatever new OS is out, would I wind up having to install 2003, then 2005 in that case?

Re: VS.NET 2005! November Launch
Usually their upgrade versions, like at least with Windows, requires verification of having the media at least and not requiring it to be installed.
You can with windows installs install the upgrade version and then it will prompt you for your original CD that contains the Full version, pop the CD in let it scan it, switch CDs back to the upgrade and viola! Fresh install from an upgrade version.

Jeez. 36 degrees out, and I have to walk a few blocks to the bus stop to get to the show. Sure hope it's worth it!
