Pick a file to import?[RESOLVED]

Thanks for the input! I have been working on other things, but now I am ready to work on this DTS thing again.

I go to the package and open it. Then I go Package --> Save As
It saves it as a *.bas file. Is that is what it is suppsed to do?

Are you out there? Or does anyone else understand what he said about this:

Open the DTS package, then File - Save As the package and save it as a VB Module. Create a VB project and add the module to it. You'll also need to set some of the DTS object references as well.

In the code, you could borwse and set the file location/name there and then run it, or you can save it. If you want to be able to pick the file and have it run immedialty, that would be ideal. If it's something that's scheduled to run later, then savign it back to the server will give it the new filename.

I found this article, but I can't figure out #3. I don't see an 'Add File' under Project. I have VS.NET 2003. Does anyone know what I do from here? Is this the best way to do this? Thanks for your help!

Ack! Sorry Brenda, I only just realised you are using .NET which probably explained why my code on page 1 is not working :blush:

Yes, it saves it as a .bas file, which you can then add to your project. You would also need to add the appropriate DTS references depending on what you are doing. Then modify the code where the file name to import is set. How ever the code generated is for VB6, so I don't know how it would work for .net. Maybe you could make a VB6 ActiveX DLL out of it and then reference that in your .net app, passing in the path/file name.

I have added all of those references. I just don't know how to import the .bas file. How do I do it in .NET? I am glad you are here to help me :)

"Set" isnt available in .NET btw.

I just thought of something. If I change it to a .csv file and loop through it then import it into SQL Server. I wish I would have thought of this before. Live and learn I guess.
