Companies strive to put quantity over quality. That means more profits at a more comfortable price for the average consumer.
It's simple big business economics.
However, there are some people(myself one of them) willing to pay extra for a higher quality part that exceeds generic thresholds. This results in maximum performance and stability.
Most commercial systems, especially P4's, are sold with DDR RAM that doesn't support the CPU's true FSB. They feature pathetic on-board components, and often have insufficient cooling and ventilation. And more likely than not they lack, perhaps the most important part of a computer, a quality power supply unit, with enough wattage for expansion, and stable voltages for a stable system.
