u all make good arguments,and indeed if there would be anyone to judge amongst us 'legally' i wouldn't have anyy sort of chance...
however... lets goto a much closer example...
i pay taxes, u pay taxes... taxes are raised.. i can't pay i protest.. it is 'illegal' not to pay, yet i ma fighting against the law itself... and even with taxes.. taxes are proportional to what i got, not what some randomly chosen citizen has...

in this case, i am not saying that the eula allows me to use the software for free, however i am saying i am against the eula stating that i cannot share a piece of software, and i hope so many ppl would share my point, some of which would be overly rich and decide to fund a freeware-dedicated microsoft. till then, i will be using 'illegal' software...

what i think about whenever i think about him is death.. and it frightens me like hell when i'm too bored to busy myself with anything else... this guy has this incredible name and fortune... yet he's still after more.. its his choice of life and i can't blame him, but what's the difference between $65.272379 billion and one billion or few hundred mil for someone like that? i know being the richest man in the world has its 'rushes' but.. what's next?

I agree, what is the difference between having $65.2 billion and one billion.

In a way, you know that we all idolize him in some way. We would all like to be rich, and some of use have dreams of starting a software company. We all use the products, and all love them.

There is one big question that I've asked myself for a long time now. Why do they still need to charge so much? Wouldn't they make the same amount of money if they lowered the prices a little? I mean that the reason most people pirate software, is because they can't afford it.

Your right, we all envy him in a way, that is why some choose to make fun of him.

The reason they charge what they do is because the market supports that price. They are a publicly traded company, which means that people like you and I have invested in the company. They are responsible to make their company grow so the people investing in their company make money. If they lowered the price of all their software (which I guarentee they would if sales dropped off hard), then their profits would shrink, and people would stop investing in the company.

Sure, you can argue that they could lower their prices, and they would sale more, but that isn't always the case. Do you really think that someone like ramezb84 would start buying Windows if the price was half as much, ($100)? The odds are against it, so why do it? MS does a lot of research on their prices, they won't screw themselves over, trust me. They are way to smart for that.

Then using a number of other factors, determine what the public would be willing to pay for. And using all that, you come up with the the MSRP (Manufacter's Suggested Retail Price). And that's how it works.

The most a fully functional computer can cost is the cost of the hardware....
everything else can be got for free.... LEGITITMATELY! Linux - Free.... OpenOffice.org - Free ... Java SDK - Free -- Editors for Java -- Free.... Did I miss any thing?

i don't know what sort of crisis programming got u out or what experiences gave u the idea everything should be paid for. true, some ppl's lives depend on programming, but i do not believe that should be the case with essential services users need. and i consider windows and visual studio an essential service.

that is total bs, there are some public records signifying way against that, are u saying microsoft's prices are actually logical?! are u saying that if i pay $2000 for a piece of software, the company's net prophet is 3 or 4 hundred?! i don't think so! do u realize how many paying users there are in the world? search a bit for microsoft's profits and u'll see that they are making a very high profit on most their products. so basically, prices are high, very high, and u cannot argue that they can't lower them any further... and if they don't i'm sticking to my warez sources.

no os can give the stability and same features as windows. more importantly program compatibility is largely dependent on running a windows os. most new programs i use don't run on other os's. i tried switching to linux before.. i even got this "lindows" thing, which is basically the interface of windows xp on a linux background, but pretty much nothing worked!

to be honest, when a program has a high price there is something really great about that... and i must admit, i kinda antagonistically think microsoft should make their prices even higher rather than lower...

cuz high prices software is so much better distributed in warez sources than cheaper less known stuff!!! the the .net ide was available the minute it was on the shelves! yet i couldn't find complete versions of other, cheaper software.

Dude... do you realise how many YEARS did it take to develop .NET? How many programmers / testers /research did it take to code & Test it. How many MAN HOURS went into it...

Then MS has to buy HARDWARE aswell. Nothing is free. MS is a company... and they need to make a profit.

EVEN if they lower prices people won't buy it... people will ALWAYS warez stuff. Take the game "Serious Sam" .. it was like $20 when it was release... people still bought the warez copy...:rolleyes:

And just think... if you develop a excellent application... its your choice to give it away for free... but if is that great... you can make thousands of $$ with it (develop it once, resell it to people).

Even with open source where you develop software for free, who is going to pay the bills , put food on the table? Why do you think Linux is still where it is? Nobody is going to give away an application that took them months to write (or at least me)

ramezb84, you make me laugh. You tout how good MS software is, yet you refuse to pay for it. You're not just stiffing MS when you steal their software, you're ripping off the guys who worked on its development! You expect everything to be handed to you on a silver platter, whether or not the developers can feed their families. Your logic is stupid. Don't try to make excuses for the theft that you are commiting - there is no good excuse. If you're going to steal software, at least just admit to it rather then making up some BS reasoning.

I don't support warez. But I have to say that I have gone that rought before so that I would be able to learn how to use that software. Heck, that is how I got into programming and was able to start learning Visual Basic in the first place. I did what I could with what I could find to get what I wanted.

I do fully support buying software that you use. You must support the developers that made it. If there weren't developers, then there wouldn't be any software. It is the same reason that I buy CD's from bands that I like.

There are alot of free things that Microsoft does give people with the money that they make with their over priced software.

Like:
- .NET Framework
- DirectX
- MSDN
- Internet Information Server (IIS)
- Internet Explorer
- All the patches and service packs for their software
- All the games and other stuff that comes with Windows
- and more...

We are not just paying for Windows, but we are paying for all that other stuff. We are also paying for them to be able to develop new versions of all their software.

I do think that they could lower the price, but I also think that Microsoft isn't completely ripping everyone off.
