They had a HUGE rebellion when they posted the Dell ads... and still they did nothing.
Now they are posting Queue Magazine ads... why give them another chance?

Been away a while and I dont like the ads i found when I got back
:(
stupid ads!
they're totally confusing me!
i hate em! put em somewhere else!
"Hasta la vista, baby."
I am in...
I thought it was "asta"?
i just thought of something....
we shouldn't try to get vbf to take down the ad's...
you know, they have to get money from somewhere...
there is a lot of expenses running these forums, like the domain, the cost of upgrading the forums, i forgot the name of the company that powers these forums...
they can't pay it off their pockets, so they have to get money from somewhere, and where else, but ads?
do you want them to make us pay?
I am sure it is "Hasta"...:cool:Quote:

The H (in most cases) is not pronounced in Spanish.
So it's pronounced "asta" spelt "hasta" :)
It's like saying the word "knee". When you say it, there is no "k" in it but when spelled, the "k" is there. WOOHOO!!! Grammar school paid off.
It sure did but not mine...:pQuote:

I cannot even open VB Forums when I am using my laptop!
So, here I sign:
Jorge
Algar
I suggest www.hotvbforum.com. Or www.developerkb.com
OK , after we signed what then ??
We keep praying that something will change or someone from above will actually realise that we are pissed off at their ads. Anyway, I hate them too,Quote:

This site costs money to run. Ads bring in money. Hence no ads - no site unless you can suggest another way.
Martin, I think the adds are fine. I am used to them on every other site I go to like Yahoo, and MSN, but the trickery here is what I think people are upset about. The fake threads that are adds are bs, you can't tell me that VBforums can't make enough money to keep running with normal adds. The traffic here has got to be high.
Here are my personal complaints, and the reason I rarely post here anymore....
1) When the adds were first added, they we done during the day on a weekday (at leat in the US) without any warning. If you are going to change the layout at least warn us first.
2) The VB Wire News crap that takes up a 1/3 of the page on every page....If it is so important, can't it just go on the index page?
3) The fake thread links....this is the biggest one!
No insult intended, but what purpose would the warning serve?Quote:

Even if VB-Wire wasn't there, the same 1/3 of a page would be taken up by the ad. (Yes, yes, I know - remove the ad, but then we get back to the money-needed-to-run-the-forum argument)Quote:

I really don't like then either, but I can't imagine that anyone clicks one more than once so what's the big deal?Quote:

I personally had posts out to help on a project I was working on right then. It would have been nice to know that the site was going to be down, and how long they thought it would be.Quote:

The add doesn't need to be where it is or the size it is. Brad explained when it was done that it is not the standard size beause it is proven to drive more traffic if it is not standard....to me this doesn't sound like JM needs to cover costs, it sounds like money is the main factor in the board. Not a good way to look at it in my opinion because there are so many other VB related message boards.Quote:

It is the principle of the thing at this point. This site has gone down hill since JM came in. It seems to me that they are looking for anything to trick us in order to make a buck. I don't click on them either anymore, but that just means that they will find some other crap to do next time....like fake posts in legit threads or something...They are showing a history of deception.Quote:

Take what I say for what it is worth. I really like VBforums because of the people here. There are a lot of knowlegable memebers here. I wish JM would quit screwing with it, and I would come back...
I think that Brad has posted warnings of upcoming downtime but I'll ask him to make sure that he always does.Quote:

I am certain that JupiterMedia is not out to deceive anyone. While the current post-ads are not legitimist posts, it's not like you automatically get on somebody's email list or have porn downloaded onto your PC just because you clicked one of them. BTW it's my opinion that the post-ads will disappear because over time there will be less and less return on investment.Quote:

My point is that the post adds are deceptive, and it makes me wonder when JM will sell our personal info and send us porn in our email to keep up the return on investment.
I was talking about the advertiser's ROI, not JupiterMedia's but maybe you knew that. In any case the answer is never.Quote:

Ok, well lets assume that day comes that they stop the post adds because of the ROI, then what will JM do to regain that income from the lost add? They will think up some other deceptive idea. I am not saying that JM is a heartless organization, but they sure seem like it based on their actions thus far.
Ads huh. :)
Thanks for another add there  :D :D :D But that is the point, there are many other place for people to go without adds, but we would rather stay here without any.Quote:

There are many forums to be a member of and I seriously doubt that too many people pick one and only one to be a member of. There is no 100% comprehensive site that will cover all questions you need related to development and such.
I think this one used to be, before they drove off the best members over the past couple of years.Quote:

It is comprehensive BUT it isn't a one stop shop for EVERYTHING programming related. I agree that they are driving people off but no matter what, I'll be a member here, at galahtech.com, at vbcity.com and at developerkb.com even if they continue to advertise. Reason being is that all of those resources have their own advantages over the others. Using them all as tools is a must. ;)
You know Martin, I don;t think I would argue with you on that. I can't count how many times you helped me. :cool:Quote:

I hear wha you are saying, but a year ago there was not a better place to come for VB related questions. I don't think I had a question that wasn't answered here ever, and usually within minutes. I use galahtech too, but only because they know what it is to be a really community. I hope they get to where this site used to be, but they have a long way to go to get there.Quote:

Oh and you forgot Google. 99% of questions can be answered with a search there first :)
I agree with you and understand but sine I program in more languages than VB, this site isn't going to cut it as far as a one stop shop and none out there will, that I know of.
Point taken and I agree 100% I rarely used this for anything other that VB and ASP. This is really not a good place for Java or C++ IMHO.Quote:

Very true and since I've focused on Java lately, I've not been here as much. I chat but I haven't had any questions posted in some time.Quote:
